Balcones fault system does run through Irving... down through Waco, Austin, San Antonio and across to Del Rio [Texas/Mexico border area]... the path of the ancient Ouachita mountains that have long since disappeared leaving a rift fault system. A few days ago there was an earthquake south of Dallas in Midlothian Geologists think they may be related because Balcones fault system that runs under the old Texas Stadium area where the Irving earthquake swarm is happening also runs near Midlothian. Local Dallas TV news this afternoon said 12 earthquakes... and that doesn't count the "twin" earthquake that hit 250 miles west around the same time and same mag as the 3.5 mag Irving earthquake yesterday. Irving is in the DFW metroplex... in the middle of a huge urban area. The earthquake swarm is near the old Dallas Cowboy Texas staduim that was imploded back in 2010. There are high rises close to the Irving earthquake swarm... high rises and other Dallas infrastructure was NOT built in a known earthquake prone area. Irving schools have begun earthquake drills... again... this was never needed before. Dallas schools have also begun earthquake preparedness. About a year ago there was an unusual earthquake swarm northwest of Irving. It was also thought to be related to fracking and water injection wells because it is an area covered with oil and gas drilling. After high powered fracking and water injection was banned in that area, the earthquake swarm stopped. The odd thing about the earthquake swarm in Irving... it is in the middle of the huge DFW city metroplex. Hopefully there is no fracking and/or water injection happening in such an urban area. .
