  1. Good point. Here in the UK it is getting more and more difficult to have an opinion which thinks that homosexuality is wrong and anything against that is big news.
  2. Valleys were formed by ice sheets which gouged out the valley. The grand canyon for example could this have formed in such a short space of time? How about mountains? How about the layers upon layers of sedimentary rocks? How could this fit in with a 6000 year old earth. I find it hard to reconcile the traditional view to the 'evidence'. I'm not doubting that God created it all but somehow the timing just makes no sense. How do you reconcile the two?
  3. I've assumed that the 6 days are not meant to be taken literally, and that they are not 24 hours as we know them as God is outside of time. I cannot see how the earth is 6,000 years old, to me it makes no sense. Look at the rocks, mountains , stars etc. I know God created them but did he create them to look old? Dinosaurs appear to have been from a different age to men. Not everything that has happened is recorded in the Bible but it doesn't mean it didn't happen. I can see why some people have an issue with is but I just find it difficult to comprehend.
  4. I read a book called 'Creatrion or evolution, do we have to choose?' which answered quite a lot of these questions. It was quite an in depth look at the subject from a Christian who was scientist. I'll have to dig it out and refresh my memory.

    Bible version

Do not forget Mark 16:9-20; John 7:53-8:11 and I John 5:7 modern version leave thee out or question if they are inspired. Remember the devil ask Eve: Yea, hath God said? Genesis 3:1 Yes one can come to Çhrist with the NIV, but IMO it makes it rather difficult to taste and see that the Lord is gracious, see. I Peter 2:2-3. I didn't expect so many comments on this one! I suppose nothing is simple in life and we will all have different opinions. I still find it difficult to read a translation when most of the words or structure seem alien to me - Yea, hath God said? I would prefer to read the bible in a translation that I can read easily, not because I'm not intelligent enough but if I'm going to read the Bible then I want to understand what I'm reading without having to look up what old fashion words mean.

It should be extremely worrying, but because Christians have been sold a bill of goods, most Christians are not are of how seriously deficient the NIV is. It should be regarded as THE MOST UNRELIABLE of popular modern versions. I have done the necessary in-depth research to say this with confidence. That's interesting, I'll have to dig further into this. Thank you.

    Bible version

I tend to read the NIV and also the message versions. In church the older people use the KJV but the pastor uses the NKJV. Anyway, a friend of mine sent me a message to say that the following passages have been removed from the NIV!! I haven't checked them all but this is worrying! Matthew 17:21 Matthew 18:11 Matthew 23:14 Mark 7:16 Mark 9:44 Mark 9:46 Luke 17:36 Luke 23:17 John 5:4 Acts 8:37 Is the NIV a reliable source? I always thought that it was a modernish translation of the original text. I don't like the KJV as it's just too old school for me but is it more accurate?
  8. I know it sounds strange! I lift weights to maintain/increase muscle strength and size. I cycle to increase/maintain my fitness levels. If I have a few weeks off it takes me quite a while to get back to where I was. So my question is, should we view our Christian faith like this? Should we ensure that we keep reading our bible, pray to build up our 'spiritual fitness/strength'? As if we don't do these we can easily become cold. Hope this makes sense.
  9. I find the old translations of the Bible quite difficult to understand so I don't think that helps when I'm trying to comprehend the quotes given :-) I've not studied revelation as I've always found it very difficult, which is no excuse really. I know there are differences of opinion but are you saying that when Jesus returns that he will rule for 1,000 years on earth and that christians that are alive will live here with non christians? If that's the case why wouldn't everyone turn to Jesus in those times and not perish? What about those that have died already, I guess they would be Heaven already? People who died before Jesus came would already be in Heaven? Paradise and Heaven are the same place?
  10. I'm a little confused by your replies Sister sorry.
  11. Just spoke to a Jehovah's witness and he said that when Christians die they go to paradise (which is the new earth). That people who died before Jesus came would also be there- Abraham , John the baptist etc. 144,000 of chosen people would go to heaven. I believe that all christian will go to heaven but what about people who died before Jesus came? As the only way to heaven is through Jesus? What did Jesus mean when on the cross he said to one of the guys that surely he would be with him in paradise? My Bible knowledge is not as good as it should be and I 'm a little baffled by this.
