Spiritual significance of water baptism as part of salvation
Waggles replied to Waggles's topic in General Discussion
No not at all. In fact it is all about us. When we repent and believe the gospel we put this into action and obey > so we get water baptised and come up rejoicing; then we seek for the infilling (baptism) of the Holy Spirit and when this happens we immediately know as in scripture for we shall speak in tongues and know with certainty that Jesus is alive. This can only come about because we put faith into action. Hebrews 11:6 and without faith it is impossible to be well-pleasing; for who cometh to God must believe that he is, and is rewarder of them that seek after him. 11:7 By faith Noah, warned concerning the things not seen as yet, with godly fear prepared an ark to the saving of his house; through which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith. -

John 12:23 And Jesus answered them, “The hour has come for the Son of man to be glorified. 24 Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. 25 He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 1Peter 3:17 For it is better to suffer for doing right, if that should be God’s will, than for doing wrong. 18 For Christ also died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit; 19 in which he went and preached to the spirits in prison, 20 who formerly did not obey, when God’s patience waited in the days of Noah, during the building of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were saved through water. 21 Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a clear conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22 who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers subject to him. -

Baptism, Baptist, Baptize - Vine's Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words Baptism, Baptist, Baptize [ A-1,Noun,G908, baptisma ] baptism," consisting of the processes of immersion, submersion and emergence (from bapto, "to dip"), is used (a) of John's "baptism," (b) of Christian "baptism," See B. below; (c) of the overwhelming afflictions and judgments to which the Lord voluntarily submitted on the cross, e.g., Luke 12:50; (d) of the sufferings His followers would experience, not of a vicarious character, but in fellowship with the sufferings of their Master. Some mss. have the word in Matthew 20:22-Matthew 20:23; it is used in Mark 10:38-Mark 10:39, with this meaning. [ B-1,Verb,G907, baptizo ] "to baptize," primarily a frequentative form of bapto, "to dip," was used among the Greeks to signify the dyeing of a garment, or the drawing of water by dipping a vessel into another, etc. Plutarchus uses it of the drawing of wine by dipping the cup into the bowl (Alexis, 67) and Plato, metaphorically, of being overwhelmed with questions (Euthydemus, 277 D). It is used in the NT in Luke 11:38 of washing oneself (as in 2 Kings 5:14, "dipped himself," Sept.); See also Isaiah 21:4, lit., "lawlessness overwhelms me." In the early chapters of the four Gospels and in Acts 1:5; Acts 11:16; Acts 19:4, it is used of the rite performed by John the Baptist who called upon the people to repent that they might receive remission of sins. Those who obeyed came "confessing their sins," thus acknowledging their unfitness to be in the Messiah's coming kingdom. Distinct form this is the "baptism" enjoined by Christ, Matthew 28:19, a "baptism" to be undergone by believers, thus witnessing to their identification with Him in death, burial and resurrection, e.g., Acts 19:5; Romans 6:3-Romans 6:4; 1 Corinthians 1:13-17; 1 Corinthians 12:13; Galatians 3:27; Colossians 2:12. The phrase in Matthew 28:19, "batizing them into the Name" (RV; cp. Acts 8:16, RV), would indicate that the "baptized" person was closely bound to, or became the property of, the one into whose name he was "batized." In Acts 22:16 it is used in the Middle Voice, in the command given to Saul of Tarsus, "arise and be baptize," the significance of the Middle Voice form being "get thyself baptized." The experience of those who were in the ark at the time of the Flood was a figure or type of the facts of spiritual death, burial, and resurrection, Christian "baptism" being an antitupon, "a corresponding type," a "like figure," 1 Peter 3:21. Likewise the nation of Israel was figuratively baptized when made to pass through the Red Sea under the cloud, 1 Corinthians 10:2. The verb is used metaphorically also in two distinct senses: firstly, of "baptism" by the Holy Spirit, which took place on the Day of Pentecost; secondly, of the calamity which would come upon the nation of the Jews, a "baptism" of the fire of Divine judgment for rejection of the will and word of God, Matthew 3:11; Luke 3:16. -
Mohammed and Jerusalem - one who makes desolate The official reason that Muslims claim Jerusalem for themselves - after marching an army into the city only two years after Muhammad's death - is that their prophet once visited there... Site of the Night Journey and Ascension It is Jerusalem that Muhammad (peace be upon him) visited during his night journey and ascension (called Isra' and Mi'raj). In one evening, legend tells us that the angel Gabriel miraculously took the Prophet from the Sacred Mosque in Mecca to the Furthest Mosque (Al-Aqsa) in Jerusalem. He was then taken up to the heavens to be shown the signs of God. After the Prophet met with previous prophets and led them in prayer, he was then taken back to Mecca. The whole experience (which many Muslim commentators take literally and most Muslims believe as a miracle) lasted a few hours. The event of Isra' and Mi'raj is mentioned in the Quran, in the first verse of Chapter 17, entitled "The Children of Israel." Glory to Allah, Who did take His servant for a journey by night, from the Sacred Mosque to the Farthest Mosque, whose precincts We did bless -- in order that We might show him some of Our signs. For He is the One who hears and knows all things. (Quran 17:1) Hence the abomination of desolation on the Temple Mount will continue until the very end - Armageddon. Maybe the Jews will demolish the Dome when all out war breaks out but it will be too late for a new Temple to be constructed. But even if the Jews do build a Temple it is still desolate as it will not contain the glory of the LORD within it, nor will animal sacrifices be spiritually applicable anymore.

It is really not complicated. The Jews return from Babylon after 70 years exile. They rebuild Jerusalem and the Temple. The Jews remain in Judah for the remainder of the 62 weeks (434 years) Herod adds to the Temple complex. Troubled time = the Romans arrive and stay. Daniel 9:26 And after the sixty-two weeks, an anointed one [the Messiah]shall be cut off [crucified] and shall have nothing [no more Holy of holies]. And the people of the prince [Titus] who is to come [the Romans] shall destroy the city and the sanctuary [70AD] . Its end shall come with a flood [slaughter over one million people], and to the end there shall be war [several more wars ending with Masada]. Desolations are decreed [no more Jewish temples on Mount Zion]. Daniel 9:27 And he [Messiah]shall make a strong covenant [New Covenant = Pentecost] with many for one week, [7 years from preaching repent the kingdom of God is at hand through to Cornelius and the gentiles being saved] and for half of the week [Wednesday] he shall put an end to sacrifice [Golgotha "It is finished"] and offering [no more animal and grain offerings]. And on the wing of abominations [continuing abominations upon Mount Zion such as the Dome Of The Rock] shall come one who makes desolate, [Mohammed?] until the decreed end is poured out on the desolator.”[the end times when the wrath of God is poured out on those who desolate]. Easy peasy

Spiritual significance of water baptism as part of salvation
Waggles replied to Waggles's topic in General Discussion
One is required to do both - water baptism and Holy Spirit baptism John 3:5 Jesus answered, Amen, Amen, I say unto thee, Except one be born of water and Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. And in my church we generally do not have a problem with people undergoing water baptism. If persons witnessed to are convicted by the gospel of salvation and desire salvation in God then they understand that water baptism for the forgiveness of their sins is part of repentance and doing things God's way ... then they seek for the baptism of the Holy Spirit (and pray in tongues when this is given). The real obstacle to most worldly peoples is the gospel and submission to the word of God. Matthew 13:3 And he spake to them many things in parables, saying, Lo, the sower went forth to sow; 13:4 and as he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the birds came and devoured them: -

To fulfill all righteousness - to do all that is necessary before God - therefore as an obedient disciple it behoves me to follow the example given and the commandment of my God and Saviour - and thus I too was baptised confessing my faith and calling on the name of the Lord for the forgiveness of my past sins; my old life. John 3:5 Jesus answered, Amen, Amen, I say unto thee, Except one be born of water and Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. -
Ezekiel 40:4 And the man said to me, “Son of man, look with your eyes, and hear with your ears, and set your heart upon all that I shall show you, for you were brought here in order that I might show it to you. Declare all that you see to the house of Israel.” 40:5 And behold, there was a wall all around the outside of the temple area, and the length of the measuring reed in the man's hand was six long cubits, each being a cubit and a handbreadth in length. So he measured the thickness of the wall, one reed; and the height, one reed. Ezekiel 40:17 Then he brought me into the outer court. And behold, there were chambers and a pavement, all around the court. Thirty chambers faced the pavement. Ezekiel 40:20 As for the gate that faced toward the north, belonging to the outer court, he measured its length and its breadth. 40:21 Its side rooms, three on either side, and its jambs and its vestibule were of the same size as those of the first gate. Its length was fifty cubits, and its breadth twenty-five cubits. Ezekiel 40:28 Then he brought me to the inner court through the south gate, and he measured the south gate. It was of the same size as the others. 40:29 Its side rooms, its jambs, and its vestibule were of the same size as the others, and both it and its vestibule had windows all around. Its length was fifty cubits, and its breadth twenty-five cubits. Ezekiel 41:3 Then he went into the inner room and measured the jambs of the entrance, two cubits; and the entrance, six cubits; and the sidewalls on either side of the entrance, seven cubits. 41:4 And he measured the length of the room, twenty cubits, and its breadth, twenty cubits, across the nave. And he said to me, “This is the Most Holy Place.” Ezekiel 43:4 As the glory of the LORD entered the temple by the gate facing east, 43:5 the Spirit lifted me up and brought me into the inner court; and behold, the glory of the LORD filled the temple. 43:6 While the man was standing beside me, I heard one speaking to me out of the temple, 43:7 and he said to me, “Son of man, this is the place of my throne and the place of the soles of my feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the people of Israel forever. And the house of Israel shall no more defile my holy name, neither they, nor their kings, by their whoring and by the dead bodies of their kings at their high places,

Spiritual significance of water baptism as part of salvation
Waggles replied to Waggles's topic in General Discussion
Your reply is totally unscriptural The NT behoves disciples to be water baptised for the forgiveness of sins. Jesus himself underwent water baptism to fulfill all righteousness, and then also was baptised in the Holy Spirit. Jesus himself commands that the church water baptise disciples Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Throughout Acts there are many examples honouring this commandment that believers are baptised in water as well as baptised in the Holy Spirit. And the epistles again are consistent with this and explain the doctrine of both baptisms. -
Yes a spiritual temple that is dispersed across all nations. We are not required to all gather and stand upon the Temple Mount. For Mount Zion does belong to YHVH, God, Jesus and it is his holy mountain, but since the crucifixion and the rejection of Jesus as Messiah the Temple Mount has been desecrated by other temples to other gods - it remains desolate until today. When Jesus returns to rule the nations from Mount Zion, with a rod of iron, then as described in Ezekiel there will be another temple that all the nations shall come to. Isaiah 2:2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD'S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. 3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

the abominations of desolation continue through history until today - this will end when Jesus returns in glory to set up his government in Jerusalem and build the Third Temple (Ezekiel)

Daniel 9:27 And he hath strengthened a covenant with many—one week, and in the midst of the week he causeth sacrifice and present to cease, [Jesus Messiah] and by the wing of abominations he is making desolate, even till the consummation, and that which is determined is poured on the desolate one. abominations plural = temple mount from Roman offences continuing to be desolate [God forsaken] through history until the end [when Jesus returns] that which is determined is poured on the desolate one = the destruction of Jerusalem and Armageddon. > Zephaniah 12 & 14

If I understand you correctly, you are claiming that Jesus spoke these words "when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?" to those of his time; such as his disciples in respect to his return after his resurrection?? I do strongly disagree. This is most definitely about his second coming at the end of this age. The Parable of the Persistent Widow Luke 18:1 And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart. 18:2 He said, “In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected man. 18:3 And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’ 18:4 For a while he refused, but afterward he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God nor respect man, 18:5 yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will give her justice, so that she will not beat me down by her continual coming.’” 18:6 And the Lord said, “Hear what the unrighteous judge says. 18:7 And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? 18:8 I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?” this is a direct reference to our times of apostasy, increase in wickedness and the falling away of snowflake believers before tribulations.

In prophecy one day = one year thus 1,290 days = 1,290 years of time Daniel 12:11 And from the time that the regular burnt offering is taken away and the abomination that makes desolate is set up, there shall be 1,290 days. Dan 12:12 Blessed is he who waits and arrives at the 1,335 days. Daniel here is writing of a specific year that those who reach to experience will be blessed. And blessed they were indeed. In the Muslim calendar of years since Mohammed their year 1335 = 1917 AD in our calendar. 1917 is extremely significant as it was the fulfilment or ending of the seven times punishment of Judah and the Jews that were exiled to Babylon. 7 lots of a time (360 years) offending Jesus big time. 7 times = 2,520 years 604 BC + 2,520 years + 1 year for 0 BC/AD = 1917 AD >> their punishment was ended and Jews began to return to Palestine and to build new communities; the rule by the Ottoman Turks was ended and the British under General Allenby took Jerusalem without firing a shot (prophecy in Isaiah 31:5 As birds flying, so will the LORD of hosts protect Jerusalem; he will protect and deliver, he will pass over and preserve.) 1917 > the Balfour Declaration promising the Jews of Britain a homeland in Palestine; immigration of Jews back to Palestine begins. 1918 begins the last days for the world with the rise of greater and greater evils from the Nazis and the Soviet Marxists and the dropping of the atomic bombs.

Here is some speculation as to what it all means ... Rev 17:9 This calls for a mind with wisdom: the seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman is seated; [Rome] 17:10 they are also seven kings, five of whom have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come, and when he does come he must remain only a little while. 17:11 As for the beast that was and is not, it is an eighth but it belongs to the seven, and it goes to destruction. The treaty recognized Vatican City as an independent state under the sovereignty of the Holy See. The Italian government also agreed to give the Roman Catholic Church financial compensation for the loss of the Papal States. In 1948, the Lateran Treaty was recognized in the Constitution of Italy as regulating the relations between the state and the Catholic Church. Matthew 26:26 Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” 26:27 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, 26:28 for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 26:29 I tell you I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.” John 19:30 When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

Is Baptism symbolic?
Waggles replied to Dead Orthodoxy's topic in Do you want to just ask a question?
Matthew 3:13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. 3:14 John would have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” 3:15 But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he consented. 3:16 And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; 3:17 and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” Water baptism must be more than just symbolic for Jesus said that it was necessary to fulfill all righteousness > implying that not being baptized was not fulfilling all righteousness (with God). Further we have God himself undergoing water baptism despite John's protests. If it is good enough for my Lord and Saviour to be water baptized and Spirit-filled then how much more should I obey and follow in his example as a good disciple? -

Mark 10:35 And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came up to him and said to him, “Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you.” 10:36 And he said to them, “What do you want me to do for you?” 10:37 And they said to him, “Grant us to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your glory.” 10:38 Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?” 10:39 And they said to him, “We are able.” And Jesus said to them, “The cup that I drink you will drink, and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized, this is significantly more than just symbolic -
But there is no truth in religion. There is only truth in God. And to receive this truth one MUST have the indwelling Spirit of truth. Otherwise you only have false religion that "evolved" through the power and influences of fallen angels and human philosophy. No I am not God, but I do have God abiding within me, so my knowledge comes from the highest sources.
