Today I have been part of a spirited discussion in the John MacArthur Facebook group concerning his quote that the Charismatic Movement is dangerous.  Some of the commenters have accused Charismatics of being demon possessed.

I referred to 1 John by way of challenge to say that accusing brothers and sisters in Christ of being heretical, demon-possessed and therefore dangerous to the body of Christ, is expressing a form of hatred for Charismatics in general and therefore falling well below what the Lord requires of the standard of love toward our brothers and sisters in Christ that show evidence of being truly filled with the Spirit.

Jesus said that having even negative and resentful thoughts about others is equivalent to hating them.   Of course, the anti-Charismatic folk on the Facebook page accused me of being hypocritical, even though I'm not even a Charismatic, but a Presbyterian in a Union Methodist/Presbyterian church.

So, I asked them how they defined "Charismatic", and so far they have not answered me.

I wonder, what is your definition of "Charismatic"?  It would be interested to know what people thought of Charismatics and who they actually are.

Charismatics disobey rules for spiritual gift usage.

Spirit-filled believers have orderly services and lives.

Does sinning make faith weaker? I know it seperates us from God, but does it make faith weaker. I more or less just want a yes or a no answer please and thankyou, and maybe a little bit of words with the yes or no.

Yes, sinning goes against faith, for faith in the Bible = TRUST.

    Trust is a virtuous cycle.

i have anxiety all the the time and what my question is, is that when i feel anxiety i worry and with worry come's doubt and with doubt comes lack of true faith, and so how do i get passed the worry caused from anxiety in order for me to feel true faith. Years ago my faith was as strong as a rock and i didn't have anxiety or at least didn't worry no were near as much, So how do i get passed the worry or how do i improve my faith so it over comes my worry, caused from anxiety. And i know some may think anxiety is fake, i used to think so to, when i was younger but now that i have it i know from experience that its most definitely real and causes a ton of worry, along with often panic attacks. please help tell me aside from going to church, because that's out of the question at this moment in my life. p.s. Sorry for grammar mistakes i'm not the best with commas and such.

    1) 90% or more of issues you are anxious about are future events that will never happen

    2) Trust Jesus Christ only for salvation and ask Him to help you with anxiety

    3) Talk with Christians at church about anxiety deliverance ministry and anxiety counseling

To get closer to God is NOT eating, drinking and smoking.

    1) Be sure you are close. Have you trusted Jesus's death and resurrection for eternal life? If so, you have a relationship with Jesus.

    2) See #1.

I have been enjoying my time for the past couple of months here on Worthy.  Today it finally occurred to me that many people here ask questions for which there are no answers.  We can all speculate and discuss many different topics, not just pertaining to the bible, but many things.  Why is it that human begins what to know the answers to things which we can never be able to answer?  We know there is no definite answer but yet we still ask it.  Why are we always contemplating the unknown?  Only God will be able to explain many things when we stand before Him one day.

For instance today in my scripture reading, Numbers 13:23 tells a about a single huge cluster of grapes found in the Promised Land.  This single cluster of grapes, loaded on a pole, took two men to carry it.  It does not say it was a branch of grapes.  It is a single cluster of grapes. THAT IS A HUGE SINGLE CLUSTER OF GRAPES!  Why is this verse in the bible?  How can a single cluster of grapes weigh so much that it requires two adult men to carry it?  Was each grape the size of a basketball?  What is God trying to tell us by including this in scripture?

I have my own speculation that God was proving to the Israelites that this WAS the promised land and they could see it with their own eyes when they looked at the size of the grapes.  But what does this prove to us as the reader and the believer?  Expect the unexpected?  Watch for miracles? Never underestimate the power of God?  Where God leads you will be the Promised Land?

I would love to hear other thoughts on this "grape" account and why we seek answers for unanswerable questions?

Aren't you asking a question for which there is no clear answer? ;)

We have a new neighbor that is moving in across the street from us. She refers to the girl that she is living with as her wife. So I asked her: Does that mean your the husband? She said no, she is also a wife.  For christians marriage involved a man and a women, a husband and a wife. So they are using different dictionary than I am using. Still I want to understand their rules or perspective or definition. If I expect them to respect my perspective as a Christian then perhaps I should be willing to be respectful of them. Even though I do not even know any Christians who knows for sure why God makes us male and female and how he wants to join us together with each other. As husband wife, brother sister, mother father and so on. I do believe that we are united in God. Apart from God we are divided. Jesus tells us: "a man's enemies will be the members of his own household". (Matthew 10:36) So it seems clear that only in Christ are we reunited with each other.

So perhaps this is a discussion on two questions. What is the same sex marriage perspective so that we do not "offend" or insult them. Also what is our perspective as Christians so they can have the same opportunity as us to respect us and our beliefs. I am sure there are people, even women that can explain this better then us. I know my wife does not believe in same sex marriage but she also does not want to stick her nose in other people's business. She just leaves them to their own affairs. Even the girl (women) that was her choir director was sleeping in the same bed as another girl. She just said it was none of her business.

Two married women are each other's wives (legal definition).

Respecting people means "share the good news with them".

We do not differ in very many areas of Christianity but this is where we do not agree.

I am a cessationist. They believe that tongues and healing by christians today have ceased. God does perform miracles today. The Holy Spirit no longer uses christians to perform miraculous signs. Why do we need prophets today if we have the complete revelation from God in the Bible?

How do you feel about Ephesians 4, that prophets help the church until . . . the church, not the scriptures, are complete, full, utterly accomplished.

So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ [at the Rapture/Return].

    I'm a fundamentalist, but not a cessationist.

I have so many questions when I read the bible. One of those questions came after I read this chapter. 2 Kings 25:18
[18]The commander of the guard took as prisoners Seraiah the chief priest, Zephaniah the priest next in rank and the three doorkeepers.
My question is why were Zephaniah and Seraiah kill weren't they good priest? I think the answer is sometime bad things happen to good people as well.

There are many Proverbs, Psalms and prophecy writings that "bad things happen to [relatively] good people, too".

NO ONE goes to Heaven without being PERFECT. Trust Jesus today for perfection when He comes to judge!

Sometimes I study the word and run across a part of scripture I've never read before or read and skimmed over without much thought.  I was stopped during my current reading of Exodus and hope there are others who can give me their understanding of the following:

Exodus 24:9-11 - Then Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel climbed up the mountain. There they saw the God of Israel. Under his feet there seemed to be a surface of brilliant blue lapis lazuli, as clear as the sky itself. And though these nobles of Israel gazed upon God, he did not destroy them. In fact, they ate a covenant meal, eating and drinking in his presence!

Here we have 74 men who see and dine with God even though other scripture says man cannot see God and live.

Exodus 33:20 (ESV)  But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for man shall not see me and live.”

John 1:18 (KJV) No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

I understand that God can say and do whatever He pleases at any time He pleases and it seems that He was pleased to have a meal and fellowship with these Elders at this time.  I also believe that the Father can appear in whatever form He wants and needs to take in order to meet with people.  My thought is that He came in the form of Christ at this time to meet with these Elders and to also give them a glimpse of what Moses had hearing and seeing.  I would love to hear thoughts from my more learned friends on this scripture in Exodus 24.

They could have also seen His feet or footstool, with glory covering him above His feet.

I was just wondering how many people here have actually spoken in tongues AND prophesied according to Acts 19:6 and 1st Corinthians 14:1-5, and what it meant to you and how important it is for the average Christian to have this experience and what is called the "baptism of the Holy Spirit"? Because from what i hear some preachers saying is that it is almost critical that you have this experience and not just one time, but in learning how to pray in tongues on a regular basis. So basically i was just curious how Biblical this is for us today and if it's something that we should pray to have and experience or if it was just something for the early Christian believers?

Someone baptized in the Spirit for spiritual gifts might speak in tongues or not. Some fruit will be evidenced related to speaking, for example, words of knowledge or words of faith, etc.

I'm married with two children. Husband is a non believer raised in Catholicism and both our children were baptised into the Catholic faith before I got saved. It's just tradition where I live. Everyone gets their baby baptised no matter their true beliefs.

Husband was always adamant that we were finished having children. I always prayed that if it was God's will for me to have another baby, the idea would come from my husband.

To my utter shock, my husband has said that he would actually like to try for another. I was delighted by the idea until I realised that there would be immense pressure from our families to have the baby baptised in the Carholic church.

To not do so would create immense family discord. My husband said that he isnt risking a family fall out over something so silly and that the baptism is the least of his worries. My husband thinks all religion is made up nonsense so it doesnt bother him to go through the motions to appease his family. He doesnt understand why it would be an issue for me. My family and in laws have zero interest in what the Bible says so no point showing them the Scripture. I dont feel strong enough to fight against everyone on this and know it would ruin my entire pregnancy, should I conceive.

I feel like my only option is to not try for another baby to save myself the enormous stress of not baptising the baby in the Catholic faith.

Fwiw: if I could find away around it, or some way to compromise I would, but cant think of anything.

What is objectionable about putting a bit of water on an infant's forehead?

Especially when you can invite everyone to a post-baptism party at your home, where you say a few words, the saving gospel of Jesus Christ!

Growing up we are told we need to straighten ourselves out. Now this could mean we need to align ourselves with God's plan and purpose for us, whatever that may be. In school we were told to sit up straight or we will have trouble with our back. Now they are telling us we need to do 30 seconds of exercise a day. Three reps of ten seconds. We are to back up to a wall and every part of our body, esp our head and shoulders is to touch that wall for ten seconds. If we light up our spine this is suppose to avoid any issues with pinched nerves which can be painful. I do not know how effective exercise maybe for someone with scoliosis. I have found various exercises to be beneficial for me. Perhaps the worst thing we could do in life is not to exercise. Even I had a blood pressure of 180 over 100 that I was able to bring down to 110 over 60 with exercise. Even if we have to drag ourselves out and get ourselves going. So perhaps the worst thing we can do, is to do nothing at all.

Exercise is a cure for many bodily ailments, and depression, and much more.

However, you should also pursue spiritual healing and associate with believers who understand how God routinely, frequently provides powerful healing for believers and nonbelievers.

Hello, I am a 14 year old girl, and I have recently decided on being celibate. When I was in 2nd grade there was a boy in the class who innapropriately touched me and another girl. I feel like it is my fault. Because I didn't tell anyone, I didn't know what to do in the situation. This is something that still affects me and it is very hard to forget. I prayed and asked for forgiveness. I don't know if I will receive that. I am trying to be a better Christian and I want to show the Lord that I am 100% on this. Any advice or input on this?

NOT your fault. Pursue a Christian counselor or Christian church with folks experienced in helping VICTIMS of ABUSE.

yes it is a free gift, one to be treasured.

But unfortunately some peoples squander their gifts, and put them back on the shelf or in a box.

Disciples really do quench the Spirit and really do let their lamps run empty.

My gift included the death of my old man and an adoption certificate. I'm God's child and Satan cannot resurrect my old man and take me up as his child again.

Your understanding of assurance is based on your understanding of salvation--and what a gift is. If you're starving and I pay for a gift of food to you, I do not watch your life for decades to come so you can vomit up and return food to me. Jesus paid for my eternal life and I will cling to Him, though my brothers and sisters long to tell me that Jesus is angrily taking back my free gift if I sin or backslide.

I thought it might be helpful to sort of trade notes, so to speak. What are your go-to verses when you want to answer people's questions? About sin, about their need for God, what they need to do to be saved, God's views on certain topics, or whatever else. Some verses you find you go to often or are particularly helpful?

John 3:16 provides the response to the gospel (trust Jesus for eternal life) AND assurance (whoever trusts today will never in the future perish).

No one is perfect and only perfect people can live in a utopia, so God was born on Earth, perfect, to die and rise to switch places with us/pay for our sin.

Trust Jesus today for eternal life, He will perfect you at the Rapture so you can enter Heaven.

OK but the poster is asking can we lose our salvation if we do not hold firmly to what Gods word teaches. It sounds that he does not have a firm idea of the truth. It sounds that he is wavering between two opinions  so he is asking why you say you cannot lose ones salvation based on a doctrine that is questionable because other scripture appose OSAS. It sounds like limbo. I do not want to debate this subject because it has been around since Calvinism. Only younger believers stay in this debate which goes nowhere.

Go back to before the reformation and the 1000 years of the church of Rome that made a mockery of Christianity . Lets go back to when Paul wrote most of the epistles and I would not believe he wrote anything that would profoundly support OSAS during the early days of the church. For me I will not waver nor will I argue over something that divides the scriptures. Sorry I got off track .

As for Salem and Sodom. Salem represented God and righteousness.  and Sodom represents every thing we see all around us today. When we are called of Christ and be no partaker of it this worlds sins is also like leaving Sodom and never look back.  Amen!

How does, say, Romans 6:23 NOT profoundly support OSAS?

    FREE GIFT.

Now the reason why the word correspondence was used in stead of argument, we as Christians should preach the gospel by showing genuine love for everyone like Jesus did & not necessarily go into arguments, but now the question comes up if we engage with them, the very first thing they are most likely going to ask so why the Bible is full of contradictions & give proof that it is real, immediately changing this back into an argument, so it seems it is not wise to do this like there is many Youtube videos where Christians is being attacked & it is hard not to get in there & defend Christianity. Have really tried to engage with a couple of atheists telling them about the hope that Jesus brings, but they just come back with quotes of the Bible combined with very carefully constructed & cunning philosophies/theories & try as I might explaining each time that the verses was taken out of context with a proper explanation, but they just keep on firing their attacks with Bible verses non stop. Jesus Himself sometimes also have stopped talking to some when the conversation was just going nowhere.

There are verses on stopping the argument when the person is being difficult. There are other verses on debating the facts and fighting for the faith.

I avoid most arguments by trumping them all this way, "Only perfect people go to Heaven." Most (challenging) arguments extol the goodness of the unsaved.

There are so many Christians with a strong relationship with the Lord. I know that God impresses certain things on me. He does the same with others too, and yet their 'message' can be totally different to mine, even when it's about the same thing.

I know a lot of people say that God has shown them that we will be raptured out of the world very soon, before the Tribulation. Yet in my spirit, I feel that the pre-Tribulation rapture is false doctrine.

My closest Christian friend (I have very few) strongly believes that the pandemic is a worldwide hoax and the vaccines are part of an evil plot, and are nothing but wicked. Having prayed and fasted to find my answer to this situation, I feel that God is leaving this up to my own judgement. I have read up on several scientific websites written by scientists who are Christian, and they have explained the science in light of Scripture and I feel that this is a neutral area with very little moral/spiritual significance. I dont feel that having the vaccine is Satanic.

Scripture tells us that God will give His wisdom to those who humbly seek it.  I have humbly sought it and this is what He has told me. So how is the wisdom that He has given me superior or inferior to the wisdom that he has given others? I know there will be many who respond to this with an opposing view...but why is their insight from the Lord different to mine? They will believe that their view carries more weight because God told them, but God told me too, and I walk with Him closely. Does this make sense?

People talk about a great deception coming in the last days: I feel that this will be a religious deception, not a deception pertaining to worldly things.

There are so many Christians who feel convicted of one thing and others who feel no conviction at all.

So, what is this all about?

How come there are so many discrepancies?

Did the people of the NT have to deal with false teachers and bad doctrine, in abundance?

Did the NT writers warn those to come they'd face the same challenges?

Do all Christians interpret all of the Bible the same way?

In my wanderings to and fro I came across a website that asserts the only gospel that was actually written by someone who personally knew Jesus in the flesh was John. This surprised me since I always figured that Matthew was written by, well, Matthew (Levi). Do we actually know who wrote Matthew?

    The website is in error.

For example, Luke 1 says "I, Luke, have known everything from the beginning and also interviewed OTHER eyewitnesses to make a complete record."

"He that overcomes" is mentioned time and time again in the book of Revelation. Even Jesus himself stated "as I have overcome". It looks like we all have something or somethings in our lives that we must overcome. Of course our precious Lord, by the Holy Spirit, will help us, but there is a CTA (call to action) in our lives. Remember, those "he that overcomes" were written to believers.

My question is; how much living by either the lusts of the flesh, lusts of the eye, or the pride of life can we get away with, unrepented, and still make it into heaven? A little or a lot? I'm not talking about being perfect. No, no one is perfect, meaning, we all make mistakes, sometimes accidentally or blatantly. It's what we do to ourselves after we fall. For the "righteous will fall seven times, but still get up", what will you do after you fall?

Here's one, I'm sure years of ignoring that call on our lives, doing what "we" want to do instead of what God wants us to do, let alone watching a little porn, is okay right?

To me, watching porn (whether a little or a lot), giving into anger (whether a little or a lot), losing control of ourselves to the lusts of the flesh, lusts of the eyes, or the pride of life are avoided by; if we "put on the whole armor if God", and "walk in the Spirit".

What red flags are in our lives, to let us know where are we at in our spiritual walk with God? Remember, the Fruits of the Spirit are just that "Fruits". They are effects of us being planted in good ground and being fed correctly. Whereas the works of the flesh, seventeen of them listed in Galatians 5:19-21, we are commanded to crucify on our part.

Did you know that 1 John answers the question, "Who is he who overcomes?"
