  1. the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have begun to give Sihon and his land before thee: begin to possess, that thou mayest inherit his land(Deuteronomy 2:31). God gave Israel the land of Heshbon. Israel had no intention to possess Heshbon but to pass through, requesting to buy their meat and water. But Sihon, the king of Heshbon refused and God decided to add his land for a possession for Israel. Moses was commanded by the Lord to begin to possess and inherit the land even before the battle. The promises of God to His children are true. Balaam in his right sense affirmed that “God is not a man, that he should lie... hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?” (Numbers 23:19). It is, however, sad that many Christians to whom these promises are given have neglected them; they take them as ordinary words of men. Many believers trivialise the promises attached to the instructions without considering their source. The ultimate consequence of such flippancy is forfeiture of the fulfilment of the promises. The promises of God need to be believed and claimed. In our text, the children of Israel had to fight to possess the land of Heshbon though God had already decreed the land for them. The death of Christ at Calvary comes with complete package of promises including answered prayers, healing and sustained health, provision, protection, promotion, peace, prosperity and many more. But the believer must know how to possess them. To claim and obtain the promises of God, you must study the Word and pray them into your circumstances and life. George Muller, an English Evangelist, would search the Scriptures for the promise of God for his need and pray keeping his finger on the particular verse and asking God to fulfil His Word. He always got answers to his requests. The Lord Himself has given the promises and is ready to fulfil them. God's promises are often redeemable on request.
  2. And forgat his works, and his wonders that he had shewed them.” - (Psalm 78:11)m A minister was addressing a group of men. He took a large piece of paper and made a black spot in the centre of it with a marking pen. Then, he held up the paper and asked the group what they saw. One person quickly replied, “I see a black mark”. “Right,” the preacher replied. What else do you see?” Complete silence prevailed. “Don’t you see anything other than the black spot?” he asked. A chorus of “No” came from the audience. “I’m surprised,” the speaker commented. “You have overlooked the most important thing of all – the bigger white space on the paper”. The children of Ephraim, though armed and carrying weapons of war, turned back in the day of battle. According to the text, they forgot God’s work and wonders that He had shown them; marvellous things He did in the sight of their fathers: dividing the Red Sea for them to pass through, leading them by cloud in the day and fire by night, water from the rocks in the wilderness. Yet, they sinned the more and provoked God, tempting Him in their hearts by asking meat for their lust. Ephraim turned back in the day of battle because they doubted the power of God to give them victory over their enemies. They forgot and refused to see all around them the works and wonders of God just like the minister’s congregation in our story concentrated on the spot in the paper. In life,i just like many have been/are often distracted by small disappointments and forget the innumerable blessings they receive from the Lord. The good things in life are overwhelmed by the adversities that monopolize man’s attention. Rather than concentrate on the trials of life, we should fix your attention on God’s blessings (Psalm 103:2:5). We must learn to see and name our blessings regularly, praising God for them and for those yet to be realised. We should never be distracted by life’s little “spots”.
  3. Father, I know that I have broken your laws and my sins have separated me from you. I am truly sorry, and now I want to turn away from my past sinful life toward you. Please forgive me, and help me avoid sinning again. I believe that your son, Jesus Christ died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead, is alive, and hears my prayer. I invite Jesus to become the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward. Please send your Holy Spirit to help me obey You, and to do Your will for the rest of my life. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
  4. “Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them.” - (Eccelesiastes 12:1) One thing very common to most people especially to us youth, is the inability to reflect deeply about the possible outcome of many of the decisions and actions we take. This is even more pronounced during festive periods. At such times, youths tend to throw caution to the wind. Every year, we keep having records of tragedies marking celebrations like birthdays, graduation parties and even valentine day which today is noted for. Those who fall victims of these tragic incidences never imagined that such supposed moments of joy and celebrations will result in their tragic end. Youths should be more reflective about their lives and actions. We should see this time of our youthful age as the best time to remember our Creator and surrender our lives to Him. We are cautions against pushing that decision forward till it becomes practically too late to take the decision any more as death would have come and forever end every opportunity of getting right with him. A life lived in pleasure without God is vain. There is no better time to draw ourserves to the Lord than now. Today is the real day everyone actually has assurance and guarantee over. In fact, whatever will happen at the very next moment is not within the control of anyone. It is for this reason that it is considered foolish for anyone to gamble with his life and opportunity which today presents. Youths must quit the idea that youthful age is supposed to be a period for pleasure. It is foolhardy to hope to get reconciled with God later in one’s life after one has passed the youthful age. There is no time better than now! What if today is to be our very last here on earth; how prepared are we to face God? The real day to mark is the day you get reconciled with your Creator. Why not make today that day! HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY
  5. 1 You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. 2 You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. 3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. 4 Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely. 5 You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain. 7 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? 8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. 9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, 10 even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. 11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” 12 even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you. 13 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. 15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. 17 How precious to me are your thoughts,[a] God! How vast is the sum of them! 18 Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand— when I awake, I am still with you. 19 If only you, God, would slay the wicked! Away from me, you who are bloodthirsty! 20 They speak of you with evil intent; your adversaries misuse your name. 21 Do I not hate those who hate you, Lord, and abhor those who are in rebellion against you? 22 I have nothing but hatred for them; I count them my enemies. 23 Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

At first, many donated because we believe we will actually be liberated from the oppression of our brothers in the other side of the country but instead all donated was used to recruit soldiers and by arms. The same soldiers recruited will beat us, breaks or bones, our girls and mothers rape, our youths killed and our children not going to school for six years running them we flee the land and here we are today
