About Me

Well, let us start at the beginning - Born in 1936 as the eldest of four, sister in 1940, bro in 1944, and another sister in 1946 (both sisters are now awaiting their resurrection. Also both parents as well.

I remember going to church/Sunday-school with Mum, and that Dad never went to church – I have my doubts about his salvation ?

School days were 'normal' - Left at the end of 1952 and joined the RNZAF in 1953 - Was befriended by a Christian about 1956, (can't remember the denomination). Then got involved with a hard drinking bunch, was arrested for theft, and dishonourably discharged from the Air Force in 1958.

Several jobs later I was working at a hospital for the insane, where I met and subsequently married my first wife in 1962 (a totally non-Christian affair) Two children, then divorce in 1976.

Met my second (and present) wife, and when her divorce was through we married in 1980, and it was about this time my wife said she wanted to take the children to church/Sunday-school, to which I agreed, and commented that I did not want to emulate my father who never went to church. This was to the Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Greymouth.

By this time I was a qualified Boiler Operator with plenty of time available on shift for reading, study etc.      When I came across The Plain Truth, A magazine by Herbert W Armstrong. And although the “Radio Church of God” taught many different doctrinal things I believe they got the teaching about the Sabbath correct.

The problem was I did not know about any Sabbath keeping churches. About this time the organist at Holy Trinity asked if I would help him by taking over the position as Bible Society Secretary, met many other church people, including the Pastor of the Seventh-day Adventist Church (Looking back, it appears the God was leading the way.) Then I saw a church notice in the weekly newspaper about “The Ceremony The World Forgot” (The foot-washing ceremony before Communion) - So I went to the SDA church for the first time. One thing led to another and on the Sabbath after Christmas 1985 I and my wife were baptised into the SDA Faith.

Retirement  brought a few lifestyle changes and moves around the country, along with the necessary church changes and I was ordained as a deacon a few years ago. We now have a small home group as our nearest church is about 30 Kms away.
