(Haven't been on the computer till now so I just saw this.) How incredible is that!!!!! God does answer prayers, Afal, and you've got alot of brothers and sisters praying for you. I am so happy for you! You ARE going to recover, I can feel it. Love, Fiosh

Mornin' Afal! Good to hear from you again. I'm so glad you enjoyed your time away. You sound so much more hopeful than you did when I first "met" you. I pray that you continue to grow in the realization that you truly are a special daughter of the Most High God. You are a joy and a blessing. Love, Sis PS. You are also an awesome pray-er!

Slightly different situation. These 2 individuals were speaking under direct inspritation of the Holy Spirit. Certainly God can attract people to certain sections of scripture, but that should never be equated to people who spoke as they did under direct inspiration Exactly, Eric. We KNOW for a fact that those prophets whose writings are contained in Holy Scripture were directly inspired by the Holy Spirit. After all, the Bible is the inspired word of God. However, if I tell you that I was inspired to deliver a Bible passage to you..........well, maybe I was.........and maybe I was not totally open to the Holy Spirit speaking His truth to and for me, because is was painful for me to receive. Peace, Fiosh

You knew this was coming sooner or later. But who would have guessed it would be this soon? God help us all. Fiosh -
Are you thinking of Acts 1:7 ? If not, try "www.blueletterbible.com". I've found it very helpful in looking up passages by key words or phrases. Nite, Fiosh

1. You'd be hard pressed to call much RC theology orthodox. Confession to man, worship of Mary, purgatory, prayers for the dead, the very essence of the Mass--crucifying Christ again, transubstantiation, etc. I mean the list goes on ad nauseum. There is very little Christian orthodoxy in the RCC. 2. The heresies of the Charismatic Movement, both within and without the RCC include the following-- >An over-emphasis on music. Repetition of the same phrase or verse countless times in an effort to gin up the Spirit . Matt. 6:7 There was a Charismatic conference going on at a hotel I was staying at and I heard the audience singing a Cat Stevens song like it was a hymn! I was amazed! This emphasis on music --any kind of music, apparently-- to appeal strictly to our emotions, to make us "feel" the presence of G-d, is an absurd notion to begin with because G-d is ALWAYS with us, whether we feel Him or not. >An over-emphasis on the Holy Spirit. The Charismatics elevate the Holy Spirit to a level meant for the Jesus Christ, the Son of G-d. Christ alone is reason we assemble and worship, Col. 1:18; Phil. 2:6-8; John 15:21 >An over-emphasis on emotions. Laughing and crying in the spirit? At this same conference I witnessed the most amazing thing: women on the ground writhing, as if in childbirth! They were giving birth to "spiritual children!" Talk about over the edge heresies. Look, G-d gave us emotions so they are important. But we aren't supposed to check our brains at the door, either. >An over-emphasis on the name of Jesus. What I mean by this is, the idea that you may pray or confess anything, tack on the name of Jesus and you are guaranteed the answer you want. They use "Jesus" like some kind of lucky talisman. This, of course, leads to another heresy, that of praying your own will and not G-d's will. Need you spouse saved? Just confess it, claim Acts 16:31, pray in Jesus' Name and watch it come to pass. >An over-emphasis on "binding and losing." Especially on the idea of binding Satan. This comes from taking Matt. 16:18,19 and Matt. 18:18 out of context. If we were able to bind Satan, wouldn't he be bound then?? And this leads to another scary thing; that of basically ordering G-d to do what we want Him to do. There's a lot more info available on the dangers of the Charismatic movement. Anointing False Doctrines The Alpha Course heresy False Prophets...Pseudo Apostles, & A New Gospel Charismatic Chaos Charismatic Heresies I don't want to hijack another thread here, so if you need more on Charismatic Heresies just Google it and you'll find hundreds of sites. Be discerning though, some are junk sites, others, like the above, are good resources. While much of what you say is true, it DOES NOT apply to Catholic Charismatics.

What would you like to know? Well for starters, how do you defend this statement? Marnie: "The Cursillo movement has been around since the '50's, and is part of the Charismatic movement, which automatically makes it suspect, in my mind, given the dubious theology, or lack of theology". The Catholic Charismatic movement is not to be confused with other denominations. In my Church, it is a return to a more Spirit-filled worship, rather than some new invention. Anyway, by definition, we Christians are ALL Charismatic. So, exactly what part of the theology of Catholic Charismatic Renewal do you take issue with, Marnie? Thanks, Fiosh I would like to know why you take issue, fiosh over so many divides? I mean you are speaking of 'charismatic RENEWAL" as if charisma is a divide to begin with in Christ. YOUR church never has spoken for the traditional Roman Catholic, yes? I'm not sure what you are saying firehill. I am not speaking of "divides" at all. In fact, I specifically said that ALL Christians are charismatic...i.e. filled with the Holy Spirit and blessed with His gifts. Peace, Fiosh

Not saying I agree or disagree, just found this interesting: The Uncomplicated Rational for Carrying a Firearm!! By Maj. L. Caudill USMC (Ret) Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force. If you want me to do something for you, you have a choice of either convincing me via argument, or force me to do your bidding under threat of force. Every human interaction falls into one of those two categories, without exception. Reason or force, that's it. In a truly moral and civilized society, people exclusively interact through persuasion. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction, and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some. When I carry a gun, you cannot deal with me by force. You have to use reason and try to persuade me, because I have a way to negate your threat or employment of force. The gun is the only personal weapon that puts a 100-pound woman on equal footing with a 220-pound mugger, a 75-year old retiree on equal footing with a 19-year old gang banger, and a single gay guy on equal footing with a carload of drunk guys with baseball bats. The gun removes the disparity in physical strength, size, or numbers between a potential attacker and a defender. There are plenty of people who consider the gun as the source of bad force equations. These are the people who think that we'd be more civilized if all guns were removed from society, because a firearm makes it easier for a [armed] mugger to do his job. That, of course, is only true if the mugger's potential victims are mostly disarmed either by choice or by legislative fiat--it has no validity when most of a mugger's potential marks are armed. People who argue for the banning of arms ask for automatic rule by the young, the strong, and the many, and that's the exact opposite of a civilized society. A mugger, even an armed one, can only make a successful living in a society where the state has granted him a force monopoly. Then there's the argument that the gun makes confrontations lethal that otherwise would only result in injury. This argument is fallacious in several ways. Without guns involved, confrontations are won by the physically superior party inflicting overwhelming injury on the loser. People who think that fists, bats, sticks, or stones don't constitute lethal force watch too much TV, where people take beatings and come out of it with a bloody lip at worst. The fact that the gun makes lethal force easier works solely in favor of the weaker defender, not the stronger attacker. If both are armed, the field is level. The gun is the only weapon that's as lethal in the hands of an octogenarian as it is in the hands of a weight lifter. It simply wouldn't work as well as a force equalizer if it wasn't both lethal and easily employable. When I carry a gun, I don't do so because I am looking for a fight, but because I'm looking to be left alone. The gun at my side means that I cannot be forced, only persuaded. I don't carry it because I'm afraid, but because it enables me to be unafraid. It doesn't limit the actions of those who would interact with me through reason, only the actions of those who would do so by force. It removes force from the equation...and that's why carrying a gun is a civilized act.

In all fairness, Marnie, how much do you know about Catholic theology.

Guess it depends what you pull out of it: The national homicide rate fell 10%, halting two years of increases. However, increases were reported in many serious violent crimes such as attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, robbery and kidnapping/forcible confinement. (from Statistics Canada) Simply because you see a correlation between 2 sets of statistics, you cannot assume cause & effect.
-
Try "Statistics Canada"

Source for table: U.S. figures for 1996 are taken from the Statistical Abstract of the U.S. and FBI Uniform Crime Reports. The rest of the table is taken from the UN 1996 Demographic Yearbook (1998), What if when Hitler was in power all the Jews in Germany and Poland had been armed????

The point is that the statistics do not support your statement. Why is it that there are more murders with firearms in the US than Canada if in the US, all the law-abiding citizens with guns prevent criminals from using them while in Canada we are all unarmed? Maybe because there was already a statistical difference BEFORE the gun laws were enacted. Think scientific method. You cannot assume cause & effect. The crime rate may be totally unrelated to the gun laws. There may be another factor(s) influencing the stats...population density for example. The more rats you put in the cage the more violent they become. " Canada: After enacting stringent gun control laws in 1991 and 1995, Canada has not made its citizens any safer. "The contrast between the criminal violence rates in the United States and in Canada is dramatic," says Canadian criminologist Gary Mauser in 2003. "Over the past decade, the rate of violent crime in Canada has increased while in the United States the violent crime rate has plummeted." Gary A. Mauser, "The Failed Experiment: Gun Control and Public Safety in Canada, Australia, England and Wales," Public Policy Sources (The Fraser Institute, November 2003), no. 71:4

Well geee, ya think!?? The US has 27 times the population that GB has, and 10 times the population that Canada has. that skews the facts drastically. No we don't have a violence problem. we just have 300+million people is all. how many people does GB have?? Eliyahuw, I'm fine with the fact that you misread my statistics, statistics are tricky things, but could you try not to insult me while being wrong? Those gun statistics are per capita. That means they are taking into account the population difference. I will make this clear. The US has 27 times the the murders with firearms PER PERSON than the UK. Either the US has a gun problem, or the US has a violence problem. Take your pick. Also, just for your information, the US does not have 27 times the population of Great Britain. The US has roughly 5 times the population of Great Britain. The problem is that gun control laws do very little to keep guns out of the hands of criminals. So what's the point?

Good morning to you all! Thank you for your encouragement Ordesa. The good news is that I am doing so much better than I was when I begun this thread but I still appreciate your time and your thoughts. In fact, I am doing so much better that I am going away for a few days again!!!!!!! I leave tomorrow morning and am not sure if I'll have internet access or not. Please continue to pray for me as I am still quite fragile (even though i am doing much better than I was). Thanks! That is wonderful news, Afal! Isn't it cool how God sends into your life the people you need to support and encourage you at just the right moment ? Have a great trip.

Morning, Afal! It's nice to have you back. Enjoy your time out and about. Remember who you are deep down inside. All that junk on the surface will one day be washed away and you will shine with the glory of Christ in you. Love ya, Fiosh

Good morning, to you too, sweetie. Oh! you were talking to Afal, weren't you? Mornin', Afal. We all love you, little sister.

Here's a possibly crazy thought. Witches were seen as working for Satan against God. In a theocracy, that would be treason. Treason is still punishable by death today.
-
Amen, little sister!

Praying here too, Afal. Please tell us how your doctor appointment goes. Love ya, F

You are looking for skeletons in the wrong closet. Cursillo is not all that different from what the early church did to promote spiritual growth among the members. Cursillo provides an opportunity for serious believers to spend time together, renewing their relationship with Jesus, and helping each other to keep their lives God-focused. Acts 2:42 They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of the bread and to the prayers.
