  1. I fish and hunt for food to survive. I usually use the entire animal for many useful things. Most of the Elders can no longer gather their food for the winter, so it's our job to do it for them and make sure they do not go hungry for the long winter months. Everyone in my village hunts and fishes for food to survive. The store are bare during the winter months and you get used to brown lettuce.

When I go out fishing and hunting I admire and embrace God's awesome creation as He places it before me. I might not catch any fish, but will get and awesome view of God's creation. I usually fall asleep on my boat to the sounds of the Sea Otters, Eagles, Sea Lions, Seals, and many birds singing their own special song.

I usually fall asleep to the sounds of the water flowing up the Copper River because it is a very soothing sound. I have fallen asleep while hunting as the Lord Jesus shines the sun directly on me to remind me of Him. There are times when Jesus just places the animal infront of me when He knows the meat is very needed.

I think people's views about hunting and fishing are different in many ways, but if the wilderness is what you depend on for food and survival then it's ok. I fish and hunt for survival and it really doesn't matter what people think or say on this forum because until they live in my shoes thay do not understand my way of life.

God placed animals on this earth to provide food, clothing, warmth, soaps, etc.

  2. I enjoy moose meat the best. I have had Musk-Ox, but you have to soak the meat for a few days in pineapple juice to soften it up and tame the wild taste.

I use the skins for clothing to keep me warm and make soap with lye from the oil(fat) of the animal. It's a process but rewarding in the end. The intestine makes a good waterproof coat and you can use the tendons and ligaments for sewing the intestines once dried and the brains are excellent for tanning the hide. Moose can feed me and a family of four for the whole winter.

It's nice to see the beauty God gives around you to see while youare waiting for your winter food. Then God places this large Moose in front of you as food for the winter and you shoot it and you thank God for providing the food to survive yet another long winter.

  3. I hunt deer, Moose, Mountain Goat, caribou, and candadian geese. Yummy they are to eat!! God placed animals in the world to give us food to eat, and their hide's for warmth. You can use the intestines for either waterproof raingear or to make sausage with. The Brain is excellent for tanning the hide because it makes it soft.

Mountain goat kind of tenderizes it's self because when you shoot a mountain goat they roll down the side of the mountain, then you have to chase it before it goes over the edge. If it goes over the edge then you have to find another one for food. Mountain goats are hard to get sometimes, but the meat is priceless when you do find one.

I enjoy fishing as well for my food.

    YUKON!!

    My wonderful Sister!

How have you been? I've missed you much!

How's everything going these days, anyway? The last I heard you were heading back to Alaska...did you have the chance to make it home for good?

Ok, I'll stop with the questions... :th_wave:

Just ain't seen you in a while. Hope all is well.

May the Lord Bless your every day!

hi ted!! I miss you as well but I figure I could find you on this post. I did make it back but not permanent yet, but soon. I am visiting IslandRose right now then will go home in 2 weeks. Well, I found a cabin in the woods and it has no cable, phone, or internet. Now there is indoor plumbing which is well and electricity and a nice big woodburning stove to stay warm with. It's nice and small one room cabin which I am very happy with. I am on a bluff that overlooks the water and an awesome veiw of the mountains.

    Take care ted!

  5. :emot-highfive:

Yukon, do you need someone to go housesit for you or is it already covered in snow? :emot-hug:

I am already covered in snow, but if you look for the smoke coming out of the snow then you've found my roof. If you keep walking around the back near the two large bluespruce trees then you will find a dug out area, then you will find my door.

  9. Well, here's some ideas for some "gag" gifts that I found at another site. Perhaps something like this could be used...

    Belly Button Blow Dryer:

(ordinary flexible drinking straw attached to a card that you print: )

Instructions: Take a deep breath. Place one end of the dryer in mouth. Bend over. Place other end of dryer near belly button. Blow. Repeat if necessary.

CAUTION: Do NOT inhale when dryer is near belly button.

    *******

Get a pipe cleaner and on the end attach some wooden beads. Attach a note card saying: "For the person who has Almost Everything."

    ******

Give 2 AA batteries and put them in a box with a note that says: "Gift Not included"

    ******

Take a small block of wood and glue it to a piece of paper that is labeled : HOME EXERCISER

Directions: Place in the middle of the floor. Walk around it 2 times. Now Rest because you have just walked around the block 2 times.

    ******

    A Little Dough

Attach a bow to a roll of cookie dough with this card attached:

We thought this would come in handy since everyone's a little short on dough around this time of year.

IR you are so funny!! You make me laugh tonight.

Yukon... let me put it this way, I'm eating salmon at this very moment. I can't get enough of it!

You really do have a gift for making Alaska sound remarkable. I'm feeling the urge to pack my parka and trek north!:whistling:

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

    keith,

so what type of salmon are you eating?? King, Sockeye, or Silver? Please don't say pink! King has the omega 3 oils, Sockeye is my favorite of all three. No one I know eats pink. So, I guess you are a salmon eater like myself.

  12. Kodiak is a great place to raise a family and ppl will go out of their way to help you in anyway they can.

Kodiak Island hospital is great and there are great opportunities with Physical therapy since there is a big Coast Guard AirSta and ppl do get hurt.

I attended Kodiak Bible chapel for services. I know alot of ppl living there. I know this sweet little old lady named Florence that I could give you her number and you call her.

She has a ministry with christian singles and young married couples and housewives. She's been doing it for years and everyone knows her. There are several churches to choose from. I was going to live in Kodiak, but fell in love with Cordova.

There are so many different kinds of berries to harvest for jellies, jams, and pies during the summer months. Pods of Orca whales come right into the piers to feast on the sea lions. When you go fishing they will come right up to your boat.

There is an outdoor group that meets that will go on easy to hard hikes and tell of everything around you. Memorial day weekend is Crab Fest. You should go then and really meet the ppl and get to know them. What you see in them is what makes kodiak up. The ppl are what makes kodiak home.

In April for two weeks is the celebrating of the gray and humpback whales coming back and ppl drive for miles to sit on the side of the hill over lookng the water and watch the whales feed. There is tons of wildlife. You must visit kodiak for atleast two weeks to a month and meet the ppl and you will call this your home.

Christmas is awesome, you will have to see for yourself. There is a big parade during crabfest and lots of events going on.

Have you ever lived in a small town? I have lots of friends that are missionaries that live in Kodiak.

I can tell and talk for ever about Kodiak.

    Yukon

  13. I live in Alaska and I think it's the best place to live in the world.

I have friend who live just outside of Anchorage in the Chugach Mtns and love it. They commute everyday to work in Anchorage.

I prefer small remote villages/towns in Alaska. My home is in Cordova near Prince William Sound. I've lived up near Wales, AK which was 60 miles south of the Arctic circle and in the summer the sun never went down. and in the winter months the temp would be between 30 and 70 below zero with sun sitting on the horizon for two hours then going back down. I've lived on Kodiak Island which has many jobs available for what you both are looking for. Kodiak is about 70yrs back in time and everyone helps one another out. You do not have to lock your doors to your house, you can leave your keys in car.

Try Kodiak out. Look around before you choose a place. Anchorage is like any over crowded city with crime. Kodiak even has a wal-mart, McDonalds and many other stores. The hunting and fishing is great there. There is tons of wildlife also. You get to Kodiak by ferry or plane.

I've also lived in Nome, Ak. I just like small communities that are remote. Just make sure you check out the area before you buy.

Need anymore info just let me know.

Fishing is great so far!! Worked on a friends boat yesterday getting the kings and reds ready for shipment to Seattle buyers.

I've been out fly fishing and having fun.
