  1. I haven't read the book, but I was told by one that did read it that Harry was always doing what he was told NOT to do. He had no respect for authority. Is this true? I told my child why I didn't want her reading Harry Potter. Then I explained what God says about the subject matter in the books. I know there are anti christian things that smack us in the face every day before we know what hit us. Some things are just "there" and we can turn from it and reject it when it hits us. Others, like anti christian books, movies, etc... we have a choice to not pick it up and read it, turn the channel on to watch it, etc... My job as a parent is to shelter my children and to teach them. When they are grown I will pray that they have learned from me and will make the right choices. No, I don't want HP banned because then the bible will eventually be banned too. However, I don't want HP to be mandatory reading in schools because it is filled with satanic religeous subject matter. The bible isn't mandatory reading and HP shouldn't be either.
  2. Wow indeed. Joed86, I'd appreciate knowing more on this too.
  3. Thank you, Wisdom for putting this together and sharing with us.
  4. Thinkinggal said,"When we read the word "Christian" what does it mean? I have come to the conclusion that the word is used in a meaningless way in this day and age. Similar I suppose to Protestant (public school) versus Catholic (separate school) supporters, Christians are being lumped together, regardless of what they actually believe and live out personally. If the Bible says - by their fruit you shall know them, and as the popular song - They will know we are Christians by our LOVE, By our LOVE...." This is my thoughts exactly. Some people really have no idea what it means to be a Christian.
  5. Muwuth, you can't be serious. Are you?
  6. Faith in Christ is all one needs. That is all that He asks of us. When we love Christ we should have the fruits of the spirit listed in Galations 5:22-26: But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives he will produce this knd of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control; and here there is no conflict with Jewish laws. Those who belong to Christ have nailed their natural evil desires to his cross and crucified them there; If we are living now by the Holy Spirit's power, let us follow the Holy Spirit's leading in every part of our lives. Then we won't need to look for honors and popularity, which lead to jealousy and hard feelings. GRACE!!! Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. 2 Corinthians 12:9 My grace is sufficient for thee.
  7. I love Psalms. 106:1-2 The Living Bible Hallelujah! Thank you Lord! How good you are! Your love for us continues on forever. 2.Who can ever list the glorious micacles of God? Who can ever praise him half enough? Once in Sunday school we looked at a passage in Psalms and after each verse was read, we prayed quietly or outloud focusing on each verse throughout that chapter - really meditating on the word. It was the first time I'd done that and a wonderful way to pray and praise. Have you ever tried doing that?
  8. You hit the nail! I've been in the situation when my unconfessed sin has kept me from going to God in prayer. Seems God wants to take care of the sin BEFORE doing or hearing anything else. Do you like to pray openly infront of a class or group? I don't really. When I talk to God it is very personal. One person told me not to be ashamed, but it has nothing to do with shame. I proclaim Christ openly and joyfully before all. Im not saying everyone feels intimidated with praying before a group though. That's just how I feel about when I go before God in prayer - just me and Him, no one else. What are your thoughts?
  9. Phillipines (sorry about the spelling) Don't they have a large group of terrorist there and haven't they said that Americans there are a target?
  10. I saw that my 7 year old daughter understands more than I did at that age that hate is in this world. I heard her pray for all those people that died because "bad men" didn't like them. That's how 9/11 changed my life - seeing how it changed my child.
  11. I want my prayer life to be top priority, but I am ashamed to say that I struggle with prayer. I have a difficult time expressing my feelings and thoughts into words. That goes the same with prayer or communicating with people. I respond to the posts only if I am sure of my thoughts and how to get them across. Prayer has to be a priority though, because I struggle spiritually and I KNOW why. My prayer life is not good. Prayer and time spent in the Word does a body good. Now if I could just perfect that within my own life I would grow spiritually and not stay stuck in baby world.
  12. Well, if you are ever told that about your church I hope you would have something good to reply with. I just sat there looking really stupid! This is the website of the church I go to. It is a non denominational. I love how our congregation has a rich mix of races too. Many churchs, especially in the south are either all black or all white. We have it all. I believe you'll get a better idea of the church I attend by looking at the site. I am horrible at explaining things. You know, getting across in words what I mean. Please take a look: http://www.cbcofbeaufort.org/index.html
  13. I think Israel would act in self defense. Have you heard anything in regards to this?
  14. When kids get in to HP and then later something really heavy comes along, they will be "used to it" or "desensitized to it" and it will be easily if not eagerly accepted. I saw a documentary on the movie. Yes, from a Christian standpoint. If I were 11 years old I would be simply fascinated with HP. Gee, it looks like great fun to fly and cast spells on the bullies at school. So, no, kids are not going to see what adults see but they become fascinated with it and want to know more and more until it gets them into the more serious nature of the business. I don't usually like to get into the debates such as these because I've never seen anyone change their minds and I don't like the atmosphere when the kitchen gets hot. I'm a very non confrontational person (smile). The HP backers get called back slidden or weak Christians and the HP foes get called paranoid, fanatical or just taking things too seriously. Every one gets defensive, hurt, mad... Just pray about it. After all it is Gods' thoughts on the subject that matter.
  15. Over a year ago I had a dream. I don't call it a vision or anything though. I was reading one of the Left Behind books so maybe that influenced the dream. In my dream I saw an old white bearded man with a staff standing beside a cliff that overlooked a city. The city looked very modern, but the man did not. Anyway, he waved his cane/staff over the city and said repeatedly, "The end is near. The end is near." I've never had a dream about the end before nor have I had one since then either. Like I said, I think it was the book that I had been reading.

    Rapture

I believe pre-trib. Just thought I'd put in my vote.
  17. Guess what I was told??????? Someone told me that the church that I go to is a cult BECAUSE: "A lot of people "flock" there. The parking lot is always crammed." Seriously, folks, this is what I was told!! I couldn't believe it. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry!
  18. I was channel surfing one night and caught that Crossing Over show. I told my husband that it was so easy for a demon (pretending to be mom) to say to a grieving son that just lost his mom and both are/were unsaved, "Yes, my son, there are many ways to get here. I am happy and at peace." The son would walk away content in his false beliefs because after all "mom" wasn't a so called born again Christian and she just told me she was at peace...
