    Hosea

I am looking forward to this discussion as well. This is one of my "you better remember this bit" books of the Bible. A little reality check for those who love God. Thank you for posting this. Gotta go subscribe right away.
  2. Since only about 95% of the current heresies in the Church spring from the parent Aminian Heresy, I'm sure it makes sense to choose to go that way. It is interesting that you only want information that would prove your teachers to be in error. Why is testing to find the truth of what they say not on your list of things to do today?
  3. From my (thank you God) very limited recent viewing of television, I would guess that this scripture would speak against most of what is on TV... Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.
  4. I know that people like to say that there are no dumb questions but I think this may be one. The simplest understanding of the 10 commandments will tell you that God does not permit any Other God and the mormons believe in a multitude of them. (even God can't legislate against stupidity in the now but you will see it His way in penitence) Since it was obvious from the outset that this question would have to be answered "NO", I am wondering what you really want to ask.
  5. I'm not saying we should actively persue a course that leads to death but, especially these days, we should be faithful even unto death. Just co-incidentally, you will see more fundamentalists in heaven than Liberal theologians. It is the better side of the fence to fall on. BTW, Chuck Swindoll just pointed out that more Christians have been martyred in the last 100 years than in the entire 1900 years that preceded it.
  6. I agree with this one too. where can we get one?
  7. You didn't exactly supply possible answers that would tell you what people really think about this question. you didn't allow for the fact that I would agree that such a sticker is ok to create but that I would not likely use it myself while allowing others to keep their front porches free of harrassment
  8. The smart money these days is on Bill Clintion IF he gets his dream job at the UN. I'm still partial to Bonnie Prince Charlie myself. He's already a one-man one-world-religion band
  9. Thank you. My friend is very musical and will likely be able to sing it just from the words. You are so right in how far our dependence goes in Christ. Have a great day in the Lord.
  10. Thank you for this thread. It is an excellent presentation of this heretical faction. It would be nice if more Christians would read this information, believe it and put a stop to the acceptance that floats around the Body in disquieting ways. Great work and muchly appreciated. I'm going to copy the first couple of bits for my reference and study. this issue comes up too often for my liking.
  11. So I would lose on short hair and pierced earrings... hmmm. Wasn't sure where you stood on pants - all pants or just tight pants? I think you would be very hard pressed to find anyone who knows me to say that I am immodest in clothing, speech or deportment. This is where we need to consider the whole package. Can it be settled on one thing - appearance- only?

Short answer - read your Bible. It is the word of God that will let you know (discern) what is of God and what is of Satan.
  13. I was at a communion service a while ago and that morning the church had decided to let the young people take around the bread and wine. So far no problem, however two of the teenage girls were wearing crop-tops and you could see all their tummy. I personally found that offensive and my brother was so incensed about it that he complained to the pastor who told him that he didn't see any harm in it. It seemed to me at the time that this wasn't appropriate dress for church. I agree that the young people should not be condemned for this although they should be corrected. The real problem here is the pastor. That he completely fails to understand a simple principle of modesty would cause me to qujestion what else he doesn't understand. Sounds like a "Liberal Theology" type. This ties to another thread of conversation that I hear often. does being a Christian make a difference in how I live, look and act? People should be able to see something different - more should be required of us.
  14. This is actually very helpful to me right now. I have said that God is my alarm clock because He always woke me early for church. It sounded so tacky to say this about the almighty God of all creation but I was saying it in the same respectful, awe-filled way that you have described your time with God. This is one of those anecdotes I will likely share to make a point some day. He is the most amazing God. He keeps the universe spinning and gets us up on time.
  15. I would love to be able to send this to a friend of mine. would it be okay to do so? I won't do so without your permission.. What a great piece of God's love. thank you for sharing it here at any rate.
  16. In a similar vein... How would you answer a 14 year old (believer) who says that God didn't say ta,da, ta,da, ta, da...that was just Paul. In my mind this indicates that the young woman is already in disbelief about the inerrancy of scripture.. Is it possible to bring this young woman back into belief? I sent her the 2Peter passage but if she doesn't believe Paul, why would she believe what Peter says about what Paul says. Oy vey!

Firstly the context is what tells you what is being said. The Lion is a metaphor. Secondly, why do you think a lion is going to come get you? if you mean Satan, be more concerned with the "Angel of Light" than a lion, you are immediately on your guard if a roaring lion comes at you. Now the Lion of Judah is another kettle of fish; Him you want coming to get you.
  18. How do you know? By what authority do you have to say "trust" me? The Holy Spirit is what inspired the scriptures. It also discerns good and evil but is so much more. You obviously don't know. Wisdom hunter put it perfectly as well as larry. The Holy Spirit inspires us to lead people to Him or to plant seeds. It's our faith that gives us the knowledge that God gives gifts as He sees fit. I don't think you have to remind us. I feel like I'm in school and just got my knuckles slapped with a ruler.
  19. Thank you, I think I might try to do that. I can write tomorrow just to check in on how she is feeling.
  20. I only know her from the group and don't generally write to her. I did treat her as a believer in writing to her. My reply was about the promise we have in Christ and the assurance that He - Jesus- is with us in whatever we face. It was only later that I considered her post and the lack of references to Christ in anything written up to that last 'tag on bit' about god having something for her to do. Would you, in relating that situation in your own life, omit references to Jesus in your time of trial? Ok, I put Jesus into everything so maybe I'm not one to go by, but again, what clues would you use to decide how to proceed?
  21. I had an experience today with a post from a crochet group. One of the members has severe health problems and had a crisis in the last couple of days. Suffice it to say that the paramedic asked what she would want done since she did not have a living will. She was very clear about the life and death nature of her situation. At this point, she is at home and on oxygen. She posted this information (with more detail) and ended by saying that "God must have more for me to do because I am still going...) I had just heard a good teaching on Phi. 1:21 "for me, to live is Christ and to die is gain". I mentioned this promise of Christ to her in the belief that she understood how near she is to death and that she is in Christ because she cited God's plans for her. I'm paring it down here just to get it said... (I would add that I did consider her eternal state immediately upon reading her tale) She wrote back with a rather terse thank you for the good thoughts. It occurred to me that if she is not indeed in Christ, the promise implied in this verse would bring no comfort. There is this ubiquitous god out there that has nothing to do with Yahweh. It is just that god that is touted as ...out there... I guess I am asking for a couple of help points here: 1. How do you decide if someone is citing the One, Living God ("God must have more for me to do...) in such a story? (what clues would you act on one way or the other? She began her story with a request for prayer but did not mention faith getting her through any part of this. Jesus was never mentioned at all) 2. Would you evangelize or not? (if yes, how?)
  22. I agree with this as well. Have you ever noticed how often sin ends up getting around to pride? (That's Satan's third of the big three punch)
  23. I do think that Peter was just getting the right framework in place for the Baptismal ceremony that would be conducted in the way that Jesus instructed. I am thinking of various ministers talking about baptism in the framework of the Bride of Christ; the Body of Christ; being baptised in Christ Jesus, being crucified with Christ (etc) all of which was just talk until the actual baptism where The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit were invoked. I am aware of churches that do baptise only in the name Jesus (Church of God does this). Of course they also believe you go to hell without baptism and a whole host of other stuff that is off.
  24. I agree with the majority here. Let the situation be resolved in a Godly manner and after that, his witness will be greater in what God hath done. The grace that is extended is the belief/trust that he and she will walk in God's path to deal with this.
  25. I agree that moderation is important. I once saw a website that pretty much said that if you are not wearing what Mary would have worn and if you don't have your hair in a tight bun, you are on your way to hell for being hard hearted and disobedient. Yeah, sure, right! Like you I don't wear make-up as it makes my skin crawl. (Iv'e tried all kinds and levels of hypo-allergenic) This discussion was coming up often in my last congregation - it did need to as some of the younger ones didn't quite see modesty as one would have liked. Actually, some older ones challenged as well. It was not uncommon for people to go and bow at the front (altar) and one young woman kept having to haul down her top and haul up her pants. It did not seem to be putting much into worship when her clothing was at the top of the list. But I have to watch what I say as I have been condemned for wearing slacks. I have very bad feet and theshoes I need do not go with any dress/skirt known to humanity...Well I suppose if ugly is considered modest it might go. (I think that going for ugly/unsightly is just as immodest as dressing to the nines for church. I am interested in seeing what other women (and men) have to say about this issue. It would be good if the men could respond and give us something to work from on their side of this.
