  1. had i known the scientists were looking for a fat gene, i could have helped them. the fat gene has been hanging around my waist and nether regions for some few years now. my fat genes have become fat "jeans". i have reached the age where "elastic is my friend" DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT, mistake elastic waist bands for spandex. some people have a problem with this distinction.
  2. just a little nugget for your information! this is from "answers in Genesis" April 7, 2007 Q: Are evolutionist

  4. if you go back to chapter 24, genesis, where Abraham made his oldest servant swear an oath, that he would not take a wife for his son, from the daughters of the caanites, among whom i dwell, but you shall go to my country and to my family, and take a wife for my son Isaac. this follows the promises God made to Abraham in chapter 23 in genesis, when Abraham did hold back his son isaac from the impending sacrifice, until God told him to let the boy go. these promises were to be to Abrahams descendents, through the seed of Abraham. he wanted those descendents to be of his people and his family. during the later history of the Jewish people, they were forbidden to marry the women from the countries in which they lived, due to their tendency to leave the one true God and follow the worship of the idols of their wives people. this was a matter of some of Gods' chosen people leaving the faith. it was not a prohibition of inter-marrying due to ethnicity. if God wanted to keep people apart due to such, why did he give us the ability to learn each others languages after he made the languages at the tower of babel with which he split us up and caused us to go our own ways? so no matter where it is placed in biblical history or interpretation of scripture by the misled. a belief against inter-marrying due to ethnicity of races, is a man made prohibition, it is not of God and can't be backed up by the bible. you were right in one of your earlier posts, there are many, even today that ignore much of the old testament. (now my addition to that statement) for years growing up in the south, i have listened to people trying to justify a non-biblical, Godless position by misquoting the bible. to use those verses for the purpose of making this stated claim against inter-marrying, is one of those. also, i grew up in a southern baptist church in the south, i never met the first klans man. i saw a few marching in recruiting parades in my hometown, didn't recognize a one. one hilarious thing i did see, was a group of klansmen and their families, standing around in their camos, roasting hotdogs in a county park, to protest the gays in the park. it all seemed a little odd to me. where i grew up, we whites disliked the ignorence of the klan almost as much as the blacks did, although we didn't fear them as much, we did fear them a little when i was young. that much hate and ignorence mixed together has to be a little crazy. today, i am no longer young, i no longer fear them in the least and i still live in the south, but i will not allow one in my home!!!! and i would join in the defense of others against them. they are an embaressment to the south in general and to the white race specifically. today they are not just found in the south, as racism again raises its' ugly head, they are in the north and west. although we do stomp on snakes where we find them here in the south. there is absolutely nothing in the bible that ever even tries to justify racism. not in the christian church or in any right thinking american. or any other person for that matter. (i hope all of this makes sense, i was a little choppy getting it down and in order)
  5. pizza guy, if you would be so kind as to give me some verses or examples of where the OT teaches against intermarrying of the races. i would appreciate it. i am looking for the chapter and verse, but if my memory serves me, did not moses brother and sister, come complaining and griping to moses about his marrying an ethopian woman? which God did not seem to have any problem with. since moses Jewish brother and sister, complained to him about this union, it would appear as fact that those of ethiopian lineage, are and would have then been of another race, and this would have been intermarrying. in fact i believe God was a little displeased with the brother and sister about their attitudes. this is found in numbers, chapter 12; though short, the entire chapter addresses this issue, it might interest some here.
  6. in reference to palosi, paloopsi, the words of a drunken comic comes to my mind. "you can't fix stupid". she is in way over her head and is a danger to the world by being there. the look in her eyes and how pleased she is to be kissing them just to throw it into the face of the president, shows how stupid her antics are. she is affecting an entire world by her actions. it has to be realized that before she goes to Iran to speak with ahmadinejad, that he thinks it is his role in history to bring the world into war in order to facilitate the return of the islamic messiah, the "mahdi", the 12th imam, whom they say Jesus will serve as his lieutenant. the middle east is more than just politics, not that she even understands the political ramifications of her acts. revoke her passport, charge her, or leave her there, let her be their problem, just stop her. (i guess as a christian nation we couldn't leave her there, even ahmadinejad doesn't deserve that. do we have a muzzle that large. do any women see how she is damaging the political arena for women in the future that wish to run for high political office?
  7. morality is not relative, it contains constants. right and wrong, theft, telling lies, we cannot dismiss these things. some people can rationalize their way into accepting wrong as being ok, tolerated or even to accept it as being right. however the issue that i picked up on in your thread was the justification the music companies didn't need anymore money. that is not the point. it is a profit based business, they produce a product and if you want to possess that product, you must purchase it, or it is stealing. stealing affects the prices we all pay for the items we do pay for. not to mention, it is wrong. ultimately, it is the musicians and all of the people that it takes to work the studios, the transportation and the caterers, the plants that produce the cds, the printers, the song writers, and the list goes on, that suffer and are not being paid for their labors. would your friend want to be paid for all of his work that he does (hopefully he works) or does he want to be paid just by the honest people, that feel like paying him for the work he does? to some people right and wrong is defined on whether it was their ox that was gored or their ox that did the goring.
  8. it is disappointing at the least, the lack of teacher training and accountability and or the lack of qualified teacher input into the curriculum and i especially get irate when the curriculum does not have any imput from the parents. what scares me the most is the schools that feel they are the only ones to be allowed to impact the childs' education and life, that parents are only entitled to feed and change their own kids. when the goverment begins to feel that schools and the kids in them are as or more important than the pork barrel programs they keep pushing through the houses of congress, then maybe our collapsing educational system will get some attention. i will stop there, this could turn into a long rant!!
  9. i started this thread and have posted this e-mail i received a while back, due to a discussion in another thread in reference to our level of education in America. enjoy the post. i don't think i would have made 9th grade. > > What it took to get an 8th grade education in 1895... > > --Remember when grandparents and great-grandparents stated that they only > had an 8th grade education? 10. believe me you won't find stephen hawking checking into a christian website. as to your questions, i don't know either, but it was an interesting read.
  11. it is the same man. i googled for his website and i got some of what you posted. where i heard him was on a syndicated overnight radio show. the show usually has a lot of easily dismissable callers and guests, but sometimes he comes up with someone that causes me to pause and listen and sometimes to even follow up on. especially when it has to do with the endtimes, the anti-christ and spiritual warfare. this is one of those times. i had never heard of him or some of the persons mentioned in his interview on the radio about a week ago. thank you for replying, i do appreciate it. your brother in Christ! Dan
  12. thank you for your statement, i have had this same discussion on 2 othe sites and some people don't want to believe me when i tell of sites that give testimonies of christians that have been forced to move on by the purpose driven attitude, as listed in the book "purpose driven life" wherein, if you won't fall in line with the 40 days you are forced out. that page seems to have been overlooked by warrens admirers. i continue to research the emergent church and rick warren is very much a part of it. by philosopy and endorsements given and received. as my dear old pappy used to say "you are known by the company you keep" and he keeps company with several that are prominent in the directing and spreading of the emergent church agenda, as well as inviting them to his church and meetings and seminars, as instructors and teachers, as well as to share his pulpit, so to speak as he does not use a pulpit from what i understand. you will receive much disagreement and even hostility for your information, from warrens admirers, as i have, some will even overlook the fact that you have been there, not just in theory or by threads on a discussion board. that you have been beyond just the words in one of his books.
  13. i have a question for the members here of the catholic background. i work nights a couple of nights a week and i listen to a lot of overnight radio. i heard a "father wingate" the other night and i was curious about something he said and his background, so i found his website, but it didn't tell me anything of substance as it related to my questions. has anyone here ever heard of this man? what about him? is he for real? (this is a serious question)
  14. I'm sure there is. i don't have that right now but i will try to get it. until then the people at draft fred would probably be your best source.
  15. good grief, can't anyone express an opinion without getting creamed here? it is kind of hard not talking religion here and as for politics, it is not the topic that causes problems it is some of the people in the discussion. i would think that as mature (?) adults we could have discussions on any topic without blowing our stacks or being judged as being terrible failures in the christian communities. come on guys and gals. lets not take all of the fun out of posting. we can disagree without trying to string each other up. can't we? so we don't agree on Bush, i voted for him twice and i am glad that i did, considering the alternative. i won't insult anyone's intelligence by saying Bush has been a perfect president. he hasn't, but did we expect him to be? if Al Gore had won, i wouldn't have felt good about it, but time would have still passed and we would still be facing another election. it may have been a very different world than we have today and maybe not. who really knows? it all too easy to stand on the sidelines and claim what anyone would have done if only....so lets make our posts in good spirits and give and take a little jest in good spirits. whaddayasay???
  16. yeah the economy is the strongest it has been in years, but don't worry the democrats have promised to fix that. after all mr. president "there is a new congress in town."
  17. see http://draftfredthompson.com join us in encouraging a conservative we can all get behind. it will be too late for america if another clinton gets into the white house, and i really cringe at the thought of a democrat in the white house. the look in the eyes of paloopsie, already scares me.
  18. i want to wish everyone here a happy Easter, as we celebrate the rising of our saviour Jesus the Christ, from the grave. defeating death and hades. whereby we have received the gift of salvation and eternal life, from God, due to the completed work of Jesus on the cross. may you all be filled with joy and in the presence of family and/or good friends, with the willingness of heart to be prepared to give a reason for the joy we feel in the Lord. please remember the soldiers in the field and their families left behind, in your prayers and those confined to hospitals in sickness. please include in those prayers the lost and the homeless on our streets, and those in prisons. pray for a healing in their hearts and souls. remember as Jesus taught, i was hungry and you fed me, i was thirsty and you gave me drink, i was naked and you clothed me, i was in prison and you visited me. as we do for the least of his, so we have done to him. God Bless you all! your brother in Christ! Dan
  19. they are not compatible. christianity as put forth in the word of God, the Holy Bible, is not a buffet where we can have a little of this and a little of that, pass over the other. as the new agers (which includes the emergent church, latter rain, etc) would have you believe. i started a conversation with a new supervisor at my job a few months ago, when he told me he was a buddhist/presbyterian, i thought i was going to have to bite my tongue in half to stifle my reaction, i thougt he was kidding, he was not. i controlled my reaction in hopes of witnessing more fully in the future. i was never able to really get it said, so i put it into the hands of God, in prayer. i say that to say this, be prepared, they are all around you in school and at work and maybe even sitting beside you in church. i read a good portion of their literature as well as that of other faith systems, when i was younger and searching. the Bible is correct (we all knew that) Jesus is the way the truth and the light, and no one gets to the father, except through him. why water down a perfect truth? many of the eastern philosophies such as buddhism in its' many forms, as well as others from the same area of the world, the pantheists, (krishna consciousness) for one, believe that truth is relative. by that your truth may not be my truth, truth changes according to needs. right is not necessarily right and wrong is not necessarily wrong. this is another philosophy that is entering mainstream christianity through the emergent church movement and the doctrine of mans' divinity comes with it. teaching that we are all little gods, man is in a fallen state, we are co=heirs with Christ, but we are not little gods. satan tried that lie in the garden of eden a long time ago. we need to be aware and prepared to answer this challenge to christianity.
  20. you have made a very good point and it does occur. i haven't visited here much over the last 6 months or so, so i am basically a stranger here. i do remember a few names from my sojourn here before. i did avoid certain ones, but usually only for a short time, and it was basically because we had a stinging exchange and a cooling off time was needed. human emotions being what they are. if i may append a question, do we on our respective boards give the unknown or lesser known posters the same considerations in what they post, regardless of who they are debating in a thread? i admit that on the board i post on with the most regularity if a lesser known, so to speak, shows up and challenges one of the real regulars, the family as it were, i can be a little less patient and scrutinize their posts a little more. not just for the quality of biblical teachings and beliefs. i had not realized that until you asked this question. thanks
  21. first and foremost i believe without any fraction of a doubt that God can and will protect his creation(s) until he decides not to. we will not be wiped out by natural disaster, asteroids or falling lava lamps, until Gods' will deems it is time and we have the last pages in the book to tell us about that. my other point is, if former vice president (he stole it, he stole my presidency) al gore, stands for it, i have real serious doubts about it. actually i won't believe it. if actors from hollyweird, stand for it and blitz the media stating it, naaaaaawwwww, not going to happen. if Gods' word backs it up, we need to go stand outside and wait on the Lord and start singing hymns and praise and worship songs, to the glory of God.
  22. well me boyo, my last name is Shamrock and is has not done much for me, it hasn't. i guess i was blessed with a goodly portion of the blarney, but tha tis all. Dan
  23. ditto, ditto, ditto. God in his brilliance and loving divinity, made the heavens and the earth. man in his ignorence built below the upper levels of the sea. man over the years knew the region would eventually be hit by a hurricaine. which would be devastating. man hoped and held his breath that such a disaster would not occur. it did! it could have occured under any president. if it was truly punishment for any sins commited by a president, the entire the southeastern shoreline would have been devastated during the tenure of bad boy clinton. it was not. many things can be blamed on the government and even on divine retribution, but if you build in a flood zone, it could be your fault. as bad a sodom and gomorrah were, some were led out of danger, remember lot and his family, has anyone spoken with or heard of anyone that was removed to safety by divine intervention from New Orleans. i don't disbelieve it could have happened, i just object to God being blamed for every heartache that comes along. we need to start taking responsibility for our own actions and our blatant stupidity. don't yell at me for my statement, i too cried and prayed for the people in New Orleans, it broke my heart to see the people in such dire straits, it still does. i am fairly certain that the open sins of New Orleans were a stench in the nostrils of God, that does not mean he did what nature does. he created the fish, but he doesn't lead him around the ocean. do we still believe that if someone gets bit by a shark in the ocean it is God that did it, or do we now know that the shark and the swimmer/surfer were simply in the same place at the same time, with very different goals. anyway, that is my opinion on the matter!!!
