  1. thats kinda mean to imply that there arent many people in the school system with heart
  2. im not promoting murder or anything, but i would have been overjoyed if that man shot these people instead of the amish children, normally i dont feel this much anger, but these people are so terrible, i would rather see old testament fire and brmstone fury on these people than forgive and forget
  3. im glad someone did an article on arabs not saturated with misunderstanding and aanger
  4. hah, the 2 democrats who proposed this better be ready to go up against all the other democrats in the country
  5. im gonna be the one who actually studied some islamic beliefs in school and say that thats complete and utter trash. if you want the truth its that islam is no more violent than other religions. the problem comes from the fact that all that non believers hear about the religion is involved in one radical sect that happens to be violent. real islam is a very spiritual, soulful experience, the islam you hear about on the news is a lie
  6. i personally think the caged bird is an amazing literary achievement, and that teenagers and adults need to realize that these things happen. Sure, books like that and "Lord of the Flies" are very graphic in nature, but there is a point to that, these books contain underlying social commentary on how the topics displayed are wrong and shouldnt be in our world today, but unfortunatly they are. Lord of the Flies is about a plane of teenage boys who crash land on a deserted island. and try to rule themselves. ultimately a group of boys break off and fall into a world of depravity and violence, killing and disembowling a pig for pure pleasure and satisfaction. eventually all the boys but one are either consumed by their carnal urges or murdered. its a very disgusting book, but the point of the book is to show that without institution and laws, a majority of the world is unfortunately led by temptation into some sort of sin, and the only way to better ourselves as a society, is to look within and realize that we all have demons that we need to fix. so you see, when you analyze the reading, i find that it is a very necessarry book for the classrooms, because, as long as its explained correctly, it causes self evaluation which will lead to self actualization, which leads to self growth
  7. you all are getting off the point of the movie, its about a government that has used religion to hide behind, and fear to rule over its own people and eliminate the "undesireables", much like the nazis. any attacks on people, religions, or groups of any kind were used to reinforce the fact that this government is forcing its opinion on the people, not as a real world indirect attack against those groups
  8. i have to agree with mikado on life of brian, and i have never really found anything offensive in any of monty pythons stuff. I mean its weird, its filled with material that would be gross or offensive in any other movie ( the birth of the babies in meaning of life, the man vomiting repeatedly, God yelling at king arthur about appologizing, grovelling, and adverting his eyes in holy grail), but its represented in such a zany, silly way, that you cant help but get some sort of humor out of it. i just cant see anyone who isnt living in a bubble actually getting upset at monty python
  9. i dont understand how you could say that if they're wrong that they lose eternity, and if we're wrong, we lose nothing. you're basing that on a christian standpoint, i mean what if jews or muslims or, dare i say ATHEISTS are right. wouldnt we be put to the judgement of what they believe. therefore, its ignorant to say that if we're wrong, we lose nothing. And the ultimate ponder, what if NO ONE is right. im not necessarily agreeing with anyone here, i just love theological debate, and like to accept all possibilities
  10. why only where was God on 9/11? no one seems to ever ask these questions unless its something particularly close to them. There have been countless earthquakes in the middle east and europe killing thousands of people, mass genocide in rwanda, yet i never see anyone here ever, asking where was god then. In response though, God was in the same place he always is. Watching us destroy ourselves, probably sad in the fact that we're destroying the world, and there is nothing he can do about it. The reason for that is that He gave us free will and we are abusing that because sadly, its human nature to hate and misunderstand each other since we're different. God does what He can, but ultimately its our decision as to what happens in the world
