i personally think the caged bird is an amazing literary achievement, and that teenagers and adults need to realize that these things happen. Sure, books like that and "Lord of the Flies" are very graphic in nature, but there is a point to that, these books contain underlying social commentary on how the topics displayed are wrong and shouldnt be in our world today, but unfortunatly they are. Lord of the Flies is about a plane of teenage boys who crash land on a deserted island. and try to rule themselves. ultimately a group of boys break off and fall into a world of depravity and violence, killing and disembowling a pig for pure pleasure and satisfaction. eventually all the boys but one are either consumed by their carnal urges or murdered. its a very disgusting book, but the point of the book is to show that without institution and laws, a majority of the world is unfortunately led by temptation into some sort of sin, and the only way to better ourselves as a society, is to look within and realize that we all have demons that we need to fix. so you see, when you analyze the reading, i find that it is a very necessarry book for the classrooms, because, as long as its explained correctly, it causes self evaluation which will lead to self actualization, which leads to self growth
