  1. Well you have a lot of responses to your question, Mamoto3 and I relly don't think from God's pov. He is concerned about religions, but about the soul of every human being. It's not where you worship that counts, It's who and why you worship. I have known a lot of genuine born again committed christians who attend the catholic churh. I have seen dozens of lovely christian brothers and sisters who have been driven from these boards, because of catholic bashing. Christians, pseudo or not, like to criticize catholics, but are not beyond condoning or turning a blind eye to the sexual immorality of the ones that share the same pew in a non-catholic church. The speck in a brother's eye story, comes to mind. Feel free to PM anyone who has their group in red under or beside thier user name. They are there to help.. btw I am a non-denominational fundie. eric Thanks Eric....Your answer really made sense to me. I am a "baby Christian" and just learning my way around! Jolene
  2. I loved the Left Behind series!
  3. Sounds like your doing alright to me! But what makes all of us good is Jesus! Thanks Scarlet... I think I needed someone to tell me I am doing all right. Sometimes I feel like I'm not because it is SO hard to do everything in the Bible. I mean, it seems almost impossible to me.
  4. So much to think about.... I have come to think, in my short time as a Christian, that believing Jesus died for my sins - for all of our sins, was resurrected by God and doing everything in my power to be morally appropriate as well as reading the Bible and praying daily makes me a good Christian. Am I right?
  5. There are too many differences. I remember going to a catholic church when I was a teen. I had been invited by my cousin to go along with her. I'll never forget the time when we were all in a line. I did not know why we were in a line and was not paying attention. I just know that when I finally made it to the front and the priest - I think that's who he was - handed me a round-looking object, I took it from his hands, put it in my pocket and walked toward my sit. I then realized that the priest had stopped talking, that the line stopped moving and that many shocked and offended eyes were on me. After reaching my sit, seeing my puzzled look on my face, my cousin - holding herself from rolling on the floor in laughter - managed to tell me that I was supposed to eat the "wafer". After a sigh of relief, I just took the "wafer" out of my pocket and ate it. I later learnt what eating that "wafer" meant to a Catholic believer and understood why I had greatly offended them. I decided to never go back. That is so funny...it made me remember a time when I was very young and went to a catholic church with my step family. I went up for the wafer and my step uncle literally freaked out on my step grandpa when we got home. Something about how I wasn't supposed to receive communion since I wasn't catholic and it was a sin and on and on he went...I NEVER did that again! I wasn't even ten but I was petrified I was going to hell for eating a gross little wafer!
  6. Thanks for all the replies...I think! I tend to start controversial threads, don't I? First the tattoo one now the catholic one... Should I keep my qestions to myself from now on instead of starting trouble???
  7. Hi Everyone.... I am wondering what is really the difference between Christian and Catholic religion? I know Chiristianity is what many other religions stem from, but what are the little differences? Do Chirstians take the Bible literally and Catholics don't? I just really don't get it. I want to go to my town's Catholic church for mass and I want to be informed. Thanks!!!
  8. Thanks...it was great to read. I am really enjoying Romans right now.
  9. Hi everyone... I just finished reading Acts and in my Bible, there is alot of "we" - who is this "we"? Who wrote Acts? Did I miss it somewhere?
  10. I was going to post about this topic today! I was just talking about this with my mother yesterday. I had always thought I wanted to be cremated (the whole bugs and worms thing got to me too!) but after finding Jesus I have changed my mind. Mainly, because I feel like I should have my body - whether it is decomposed or not - to join him in Heaven. Also, because it seems like being cremated is like being put into hell with the fire. After reading Reuben Hick's reply, which I copied and pasted into a word doc to email my mom, I am not going to be cremated. To each his own. Thanks Reuben Hick for the info!!! ed. poor spelling!!!
  11. Hi Patricia, Your post made me think of a show I saw with Simcha Jacobovici - The Naked Archaeologist. He showed how God could have used the Earth's natural processes to send the ten plagues on the Egyptians. For example, the water turning to blood, killing all fish except the frogs and so on...well not to many decades ago, this exact same phenomena occured somewhere (forgive for forgetting where) and the water turned red like blood due to some gas that was released below the surface of the water. In turn, all the fish died from the gas that was released to turn the water red and the reason the frogs lived was because they were the only animal able to jump out of the water and survive on land. In fact, they talked (in the more recent occurance) about how this gas killed all the villagers much like all the first born males were killed in Biblical times. The reason the first borns were killed was due to the location of where they slept...the gas reached them and no one else. It was SO interesting to watch! Did anyone else see this show? It made total sense...of course the plagues were the work of God, but he used the natural processes of the earth to make the plagues occur.
  12. That is awesome! What a great story!!!
  13. Obviously, something caused the exinction of the dinosaurs to happen rather suddenly. There is no evidence that there were humans on the earth at this time. The Bible contains stories of the Pharoahs of Egypt (about 5000+ years ago, 3000 years before the birth of Christ.) We know that ancient people were living in Europe over 5000 years ago from artifacts and cave drawings that have been found there; along with the intact, frozen body of an ancient man found in the Swiss Alps a few years ago. He was found to have lived over 5000 years ago as well. I don't understand what the confusion is about something that has been carbon dated to 5500 years ago or how that data would conflict with the Bible. My confusion comes from the fact that I didn't realize how old the earth was or that Adam and Eve were on earth for thousands of years prior to Jesus.
  14. Thank you all... I added those sites to my favorite places and will use them for references. I am going to stick to reading the God's Word Bible for now, since it is the one I started and I am halfway through it!
  15. What's NIV?
  16. I am full of questions today... What do you do when you see some scientific evidence that makes you doubt or makes you have a doubtful thoughts towards the written word in the Bible? For instance, I watch that show Cities of the Underworld and last week they showed the Vikings and Ireland. They found a place that was scientifically (carbon dated) proven to be from 3500BC. How is that possible? I believe with all my heart in the Bible and it's words, but when scientific theories are thrown out there, I think...hey how is that possible? When were Adam and Eve on Earth? Another for instance...dinosaurs. Were they extinct because of the great flood in Noah's time or what??? I want some logical answers here! Are there any?
  17. Hi everyone, I have a question. I received a God's Word Bible for Christmas and have been reading it every day. I had a King James Version for years that I just never got into reading...it is SO hard to understand with all the "Thou's" and "Thee's" if you know what I mean. Anyway, I keep going back to Matthew 6:5 where he talks about the Lord's Prayer and how to pray. I have learned alot from just that little section, but I decided to look in th KJV to compare and it is different! Not by much, but the prayer is different. If needed, just ask and I can type both here to show the differences. I know that some things will of course be lost in translation, but I am hoping it is ok to read the God's Word Bible because that is the one I am drawn to. Please give me some guidance!!! Thanks!!!
  18. I often ask myself this question...I say I forgive but them I wonder, do I really forgive? It is hard to forgive for things that have altered your life so drastically. I guess everything takes time.
  19. I took my two older kids to church and prayed for my husband to someday join us. I can see the difference in my kids when we are leaving kids' church - I KNOW it makes a difference in their lives.
  20. Wow...this is a pretty controversial issue in some ways and it seems that everyone has their own beliefs about it. My belief is that if the tattoo isn't intended to be evil, it isn't evil. God knows or hearts.
  21. Hi everyone! It seems as though I have a question a day! I am wondering if you think tattoos are sinful? I read a quick line about it in the Old Testament...I wish I could find all these lines that catch my eye. I should mark my Bible! So many people have them today - do you think it is a sin? I have one - a lotus flower and my kids' names written in Sanskrit - and would love to get more but I don't want to commit a sin knowingly. I got that one last summer before becoming Christian. My husband has tons of tattoos. I had a dream last night I was going to get a beautiful cross tattoo - and I mean it was BEAUTIFUL. Exactly the one I would get if I were to get another. That's where I got the idea to ask all you knowedgable Christians what you think about tattoos! Thanks!
  22. Thanks everyone. When I let him know what the answer was to his question he just kind of went, "Hmm..." He IS twelve!!!
  23. I don't think you are overreacting at all. You are welcoming him into your home, there is no reason he should have a problem with attending your church. If I were in his shoes, I would be grateful I was even getting the opportunity he is getting. I agree with wingwalker - if he isn't happy with the situation, he can stay in prison.
