What is going on with the person that repents (they truely are repentive) and the same sin creeps back in, especially if it is a sinful thought, such as coveting or whatever? Does that mean that their prior repentance wasn't genuine EVEN though they felt genuine about it? This is a grueling and cruel cycle. I don't get it. I will give an example. This would be for a man, but I am female. A true believe (male) has a problem with pornography. He falls back in to it ever so subtle, kicks himself around unmercifully because he knows he has failed. He has repented in the past, but the ugly cycle is tormenting him. He repents again. Weeks pass and he fails once more. Again, he is discouraged beyond words and deems himself a failure for life with this issue. What is going on? Tell me your thoughts on repentence and for the person struggling with it.

It's in our nature. Part of living in a fallen world. We still sin, even as Christians. The trick is to not be characterized by that sin. In your example that person should repent and ask God to protect them from future temptation. If they are sincere the Lord will be faithful to them. Alternatively, they could ask fellow Christians to hold them accountable. As Christians we are not to judge each other but we are to keep each other accountable. Not to pry but is this a general question or are you dealing with a specific issue? That was just the example I used. Thats about all I can say. I'm not doing anything in the physical but in the thoughts. Almost compulsively. Sin grievs me. One of my favorite hymns that says it all is, Jesus Paid It All:I hear the Savior say, "Thy strength indeed is small! Child of weakness, watch and pray. Find in Me thine all in all."Lord, now indeed I find Thy pow'r, and Thine alone, Can change the leper's spots and melt the heart of stone. For nothing good have I whereby Thy grace to claim. I'll wash my garments white in the blood of Calv'ry's Lamb. And when before the throne I stand in Him complete, "Jesus died my soul to save," My lips shall still repeat.Jesus paid it all. All to Him I owe; sin has left a crimson stain. He washed it white as snow.
