Lawyers like Alan Dershowitz earn their lavish incomes by making certain that moral arguments are kept out of the picture. As Dershowitz instructs young lawyers, "So you want to do good. Don't we all. But when you became a

lawyer, you have to define good differently than you did before." Obviously.

W/O God, how do we define "good"? There is no basis for a standard of what IS good, therefore what will be considered good w/o God will be subject to the whims of the mind.

Our basis for good is from God. We woudn't know what good is except for God.

God is our basis for goodness. It doesn't exist without him. I do feel that people can live by a "moral standard" if you will that could be considered good. I guess then you have to look back to what that "moral standard" was founded upon which probably was rooted in the bible, soooo....I guess forget all that :rolleyes: . No, goodness doesn't exist apart from God. :rolleyes:

by worldly standards a person can be good without God. i know some really good people who are athiests. but the problem is, human standards are subjective. what one person sees as good, the next person may see as horrid.

and in any case, no matter how "good" we are, without God our goodness is as filthy as oilrags anyway.

I agree when I say that God is the basis for all good. Without God, or a Higher Power, who's to say that anything we do is necessarily "good" or "evil". Why can't we just go out and murder someone like the animals of the wild? We can't just base it on what "feels" right or wrong. There has to be an ultimate moral lawgiver (God) otherwise we have no basis for what is good.

I think this sums it up.....

Romans 8:5-8

5 Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.

6 The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace;

7 the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so.

8 Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.

Pretty clear......

In HIM,

Bob
