.... Touts Homosexuality as a Gift, Not a Sin

Being gay is a gift from God, asserts one.... in Ohio.

That's the message that .... is spreading throughout their community via a digital billboard, launched on Monday.

This "simple statement," the.... announced, is "intended to be a gift to those who have experienced hurt and discrimination because of their real or perceived sexual orientation."

"The.... seeks nothing less than the healing of the world, and.... wants to offer words and acts of healing to those hurt and marginalized," the website states.

~

Jeff.... agrees that the.... must display love and compassion for those in the.... community. But he opposes the message that.... is sending through their "Being Gay is a Gift from God" campaign.

"Why would God bestow this 'gift' only to condemn it throughout the Bible? This would seemingly contradict His character as a God who is loving and just."

Lust Is The Way Of The World

Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. Ephesians 2:2-3

Freedom Is The Way Of Christ

Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. John 8:34-36

If You Love Them

And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail. Luke 16:17

Tell Them The Truth

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Acts 2:38

Methodist Church Touts Homosexuality as a Gift, Not a Sin

Being gay is a gift from God, asserts one church in Ohio.

That's the message that Central United Methodist Church is spreading throughout their community via a digital billboard, launched on Monday.

This "simple statement," the church announced, is "intended to be a gift to those who have experienced hurt and discrimination because of their real or perceived sexual orientation."

"The Church seeks nothing less than the healing of the world, and Central UMC wants to offer words and acts of healing to those hurt and marginalized," the website states.

Jeff Buchanan, the director of Exodus Church Equipping & Student Ministries, agrees that the Church must display love and compassion for those in the LGBT community. But he opposes the message that CUMC is sending through their "Being Gay is a Gift from God" campaign.

"Why would God bestow this 'gift' only to condemn it throughout the Bible? This would seemingly contradict His character as a God who is loving and just."

The Toledo church's controversial billboard ad is directly connected to a long month-long sermon series by its new pastor, Bill Barnard. The church is hoping that the ad will move the public towards tolerance, reported ABC 13, and not perpetuate anti-gay attitudes and behaviors, which were harming the LGBT community.

The purposes of their recently launched campaign are threefold: to offer welcome to all persons who are gay; to challenge the larger Church to fully accept persons who are gay into the life of the Church; and to call on all people to bring all the gifts of who they are to God.

"By welcoming and living in community with faithful Christians who happen to be gay, we have come to understand that being gay is part of who God made them to be," CUMC proclaims on their site. "And by gay Christians bringing all that they are to God, the body of Christ has been strengthened."

"In fact, we would experience the body of Christ as incomplete without LGBT persons."

Full Story Here

If you interpret the Bible using context and the analogy of Faith (a basic hermeneutical tool that interprets a scripture with other scriptures), you will see that only certain types of homosexuality are condemned. For example, in Genesis story with Sodom and Gommorah, its not a case of simple homosexuality, but rather gang-rape. In Leviticus passages, the Torah is condemning same-sex temple prostitution. The term that most translate as homosexual in Paul's epistles is a vague term that no one today knows the meaning of because Paul coined the term. Back in Martin Luther's day, they all thought it meant masturbator.

Yes, there are a few other passages that people use to condemn homosexuality. Use the Analogy of faith and context to read them with fresh eyes. You will see if you read each passage objectively, that each passage only condemns certain homosexual practices. The bible is silent on monogamous loving relationships!

God bless you and have a good day! :)

Well ya know what? There is something that God is not silent on, that is mocked often. God is not silent on His design for family, marriage, sex etc. It is very clear from reading scripture that His design is a man and woman in marriage for life. I realise that this design argument is mocked by many as the weakest argument against homosexuality, but I consider it the strongest one. We do not need a plethora of scriptures condemning homosexuality (telling us what NOT to permit in sexual relationships) when we have a plethora of scriptures telling us what TO follow in terms of sexual relationships).

I think an honest reading of scripture would reveal His plan is for monogomous heterosexual relationships, not homosexual relationships, and further I do not think that His plan for marriage and family has changed since He set it out way back in the beginning. When I was a teen and recently saved I lived next to a gay white witch. He claimed that God was against homosexuality in the olden days because we hadn't yet invented ways to protect people from STD's . I don't think that He has changed His stance one iota. He would not have used the marriage analogy between Jesus and His Bride (the Church) if His design for marriage was going to change over time.

Let's also not pretend that the bible's silence on a sexual orientation makes it permissable in the eyes of the Lord. If you really do want to take a 'whole of scripture' approach it means going beyond those few scriptures that people throw out there in these debates, and actually looking at the bigger picture. Why would God set out a specific design for sex and marriage, and keep quiet on 'alternatives', if He is accepting of that alternative? Makes no sense to me at all.

I'm prattling, nuf said...

Steven, I'm glad you brought this scripture up as it makes my point quite nicely. Many commentators consider the surrounding chapters to be a commentary on the ten commandments. Lev 18 is then in reference to Ex 20 v 14 and 17. This is not written as an exhaustive list of "don'ts", but expounding on the 'thou shall not commit adultery' commandment with enough clarity to make it clear that sex belongs between a man and a woman in the confines of marriage. Arguing that the bible doesn't expressly (well it does.... but some like to gloss over that or explain it away...) prohibit homosexuality does not deal with the fact that God's design for marriage is written down and expanded upon with great clarity throughout the entire bible, and homosexuality flies in the face of that.

All sex outside of marriage between a man and a women is sin. The bible is clear, in fact scripture speaks a lot about fornication and adultery, Christ Himself defines what marriage is and He is clear "a man and a women joined together by God in marriage".

So we don't even have to go down the road of worrying about what particular sexual perversion we are talking about, homosexuality, porn, sex before marriage, cheating outside of marriage, living together outside of marriage, living in lust and and uncleanliness, incest, molestation and on and on.

Even if homosexuality was never mentioned once in scripture (and it is in both the New and Old Testaments) but even if it were not it would still be sexual sin, it would be fornication and uncleanliness.

Of course these guys are mainly concerned about gay politics than they are about spreading the Gospel of Christ. Notice in their statements they don't mention the Gospel, they don't mention Christ, this is not their first priority it would seem.

If you interpret those scriptures from Leviticus in light of other Scriptures that are too be found in the Old Testament, you will find that they are a prohibition of same-sex temple prostitution, and has not one iota to do with gay monogamous relationships.

I will post the other scriptures when I get home from work tonight. I don't have the time to get into it right now, as I have to get ready for work and then catch a bus out to work (a 45 minute bus ride. :( )

Have a good day and may the Lord Jesus Christ bless you!

I will also deal with your objection when I get home tonight, God willing that I have time. While I do disagree with the witch you quoted, I also disagree that this is the strongest argument against homosexuality. Its not the weakest one ("God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve" is the weakest one by far! LOL), it does rank close to it.
