At the Last Supper Jesus made an offering of His sacrificial body and blood to the Father. This offering is the most perfect offering to the Father because it is an act of love that is infinite, selfless and unconditional. Furthermore, He gave us His body to eat and blood to drink. In doing this He established an eternal covenant with us in which He gives us His sacrificial body and blood (Matthew 26:26-28), and we accept His sacrificial life (His spirit which is selfless, sacrificial and full of forgiveness) by eating His body and drinking His blood (John 6:53-57). In addition, by receiving Him into our being we establish an intimate friendship with Him which is very precious to Jesus. He therefore asks us to do this (re-enter His sacrificial meal) as often as possible so that we will keep His love (spirit) alive in our heart (memory) (Luke 22:19).

We do not wish to re-sacrifice our saviour however:

If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much more severely do you think a man deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God under foot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace?

Heb 10:26-29 (NIV)
