Many scientists hypothesize (both YEC and evolutionist) that there was a huge lake covering a large portion of north america at one point, from a YEC perspective this lake was just what was left over from the flood, and the grand canyon was the weak point of a natural dam, that broke and all that water flowed through it creating the grand canyon.
