The 7 Churches: Where do we fit?

EPHESUS: Diligently tried to eliminate false teachings and rejected promulgators of false doctrines, but were criticized for foresaking their 1st love, coming off as too cruel to each other, and maybe too judgmental to bring people to Christ. People that remembered their first love and fought off false doctrines were promised the Tree of Life.

SMYRNA: Materially Poor, but spiritually rich, they were persecuted by their own people, but because of their faith, they were awarded the Crown of Life - for their victory over their suffering.

PERGAMUM: Embraced moral relativism, secularism, tolerated other religions, but participated in pagan ceremonies and committed spiritual adultery.

THYATIRA: Praised for the love and faith and service and perseverance, criticized for conforming the church to the world, tolerated sin, considered themselves intellectual enough to "understand" pagans/heathens and to tolerate their beliefs in and outside the church. Powerless to the forces that rule this world, Thyatira was promised to inherit the Earth one day.

SARDIS: Beautiful, but dead, a painted corpse, but the promise of resurrection is their reward.

PHILADELPHIA: Christ has the key of David and is holding the door to Heaven open for them. They were persecuted by their own people, but were promised that one day, their persecutors will acknowledge Christ as their Messiah and Christians as their brothers/sisters. They were warned that one day the evil world system will collapse, Christians will be persecuted and martyred shortly after this takes place, but are promised to be protected from the wrath that comes. Could be the rapture, or the 144000 that are sealed during the Great Tribulation.

They were rewarded by being given 3 names: God's Name, New Jerusalem, and Christ's New Name.

LAODICIA: Had no redeeming qualities, materially rich, spiritually poor, had no need for God/Christ, was very comfortable in the world. They were arrogant and blind, but their Faith will be refined and will dine at the Table of the Lord.

All 7 churches, as described above, exist today in America. What church do you belong to?

Well allowing the Holy Spirit to work in our lives will do far more than 'manning up'

Knowing a little of how you write Justin, I believe that may be what you mean...but we have some in this forum who want nothing

to do with the Holy Spirit and seem to believe that all is just our own flesh making the effort

John,

To the seven churches in the province of Asia:

Grace and peace to you from him who is, and who was, and who is to come, and from the seven spiritsa before his throne, 5and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth.

To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, 6and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father—to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen.

(seven spirits meaning the seven fold ministry of the Holy Spirit)

We are to be priests to serve God...a spiritual undertaking only possible through the Holy Spirit
