In other words, Jesus Christ believed in the separation of church and state. The American flag does NOT belong in a church and a Nativity scene does NOT belong in a public square. IMO, He was probably talking about taxes and tithes. I don't see the connection between Jesus' statement and 'separation of church and state.' Actually I see a deeper meaning in that He was telling people to repent and turn to God. Give unto caesar what was made in the image of caesar and give unto God what was made in the image of God. Which is mankind. I agree with MG here. In context, Jesus was talking about taxes being paid to Ceaser. This passage is often misquoted John S in speaking of seperation of Church and State. I also think AJ makes a good point - Jesus was calling us into a deeper relationship through Him to God. God owns our very lives so we should honor Him in all that we do.
