But often people become intangled in their own works and that of religion and God's will is nowhere to be seen, I have to say this makes me very sad. They do not see the difference between their own will/works and that of God. I remember a long time ago an old lady saying words to the effect of, "I've been a good person all my life and worked hard in my church, God will not send me to hell." They do not see the difference between their own will/works and that of God. If we have to "work at it" to do good "works" then they probably aren't so good after all. What James is speaking of when he says "faith without works is a dead faith" are the things which you just naturally do. They are the righteous behaviour of a godly saint going about his day. Any "moral" behavior based on human reasoning is both senseless and vanity. Morality comes from the most basic truth of God's law for governing human behavior. Love comes from God Himself.
