I wan't correlating it to the OP.  I was addressing your question.

Oh, I hadn't thought of footing the bill as being a part of volunteering?

Donating money or donating/volunteering time and talent all go hand-in-hand.   Not every old person may have the stamina to volunteer their time to due to health issues.

In most churches, younger people/couples don't tithe.  80-90% of the funds that come into a church are given by about 10% or so of the congregation.  Most tithers tend to be older people.  Younger people today don't tithe as a general rule.

Churches that try to focus primarily on younger people and putting a young, sexy, good looking face on their church will find that to be a huge mistake.

Gotcha.

It's rare to find someone who will give all their possessions away and go follow Jesus in america. It's just not realistic in this world anymore, no matter what age you are. Everyone is banking on the corporation idea.

Well, since you are preaching it, what are you doing about it?

Not all of us are called to be missionaries. Some are called to be pastors etc. That does not make someone less faithful. We all have our parts in the body of Christ.

I said nothing about being called to be a missionary.

If you read Mat 10, you will see peculiar missionary rules given to the 12 Apostles.  I don't believe any missionaries today follow those rules as they realize that they were dispensational; that is, intended only for that time & place.  In fact, the Lord Jesus later repeals these rules in the gospels.

This is one example of a dispensational understanding of a Bible text.  Not all scripture is to us, but all is for us.  Hosea was to take a wife of whoredom; that one doesn't apply to us.  Israelites were to cleanse themselves with holy water made using ashes of a Red Heifer.  We are not under the Law.

OK, so if other Christians in America are getting paid and feeding their families, why the original claim?
