Saying that, the only way I was able to stay away from drugs was to allow Him to create a new man in me. We have to allow Him to do so, giving up what He does not want in our lives. For me, it was a complete change in who I saw as friends, where I went for enjoyment, what I did with my time, where I worked, and so on. Little by little, when I kept my eyes on Him, change came. Don't give up if you slip. Get up, shake off the dirt, and keep moving forward. I need to also add that some addictions are harder to give up than others. Look for someone who is in Christ that has walked that same road you are now walking and ask for accountability and encouragement.
