Volatility-targeting programs. Statistical arbitrage. Sometimes the U.S. stock market seems like a giant science project, one that can quickly turn hazardous for its human inhabitants. Pertaining to the stock market, few people know that wealth is neither created or destroyed, it is simply transferred. Ponder that thought for a minute. Nothing says it has to be one or the other. I would not be surprised to find out its both, and a few other things besides. Much of the markets are computerized if not automated completely. People are still needed for the stuff the machines can't handle. I remember when that movie came out too. I was thinking more along the lines of Skynet from the Terminator movies . . .
