If there are actually guitar players out there who are that fired up about edge's echo sound, I would suggest that they take some time and learn a couple of chords. Honestly, who really cares

Chords are the cart before the horse for sure but a well timed delay setting can make for a brilliant riff. Dave Gilmore is a better example than the edge. It can give a solo a wonderful spacy sound. Don't even attempt rockabilly without slap back echo.

Good point. I do like the Pink Floyd sound and I also like Gene Vincent. Floyd didn't depend on delay though. They used it some times but if I recall, their biggest hits "Wish You Were Here" or "The Wall" did not use delay. The rockabilly slapback is such a short delay it is not quite as overwhelming as the U2 sound. I just found it to be redundant because it was so dominant. :24:

Brain May did some cool tape delay (echoplex)stuff on the Queen tune "Brighton Rock". 2 repeats after the original riff(min. Pent.) at about 800 milliseconds. He hard panned it center to left to right. It ended up making a great stereo harmony mix. As for U2, I just cant get past Bono's whiney voice. Edge is all echo and no real playing. You still have to play something. I use a boss digital delay at about 400 milliseonds at 3 repeats to give some of my solos dreamy vibe. You cant overdo it.

U2 Christian? News to me

My father is a rich man

He wears a rich man's cloak

Gave me the keys to his kingdom coming

Gave me a cup of gold

He said I have many mansions

And there are many rooms to see

But I left by the back door

And I threw away the key

And I threw away the key

Yeah, I threw away the key

Yeah, I threw away the key

For the first time

For the first time

For the first time

U2 "For the First Time"

Not to pass judgement, but I am extremely skeptical as Bono has on more then one occasion dressed up as a demon for his performances.  If he is a Christian, I think he may want to reexamine how he walks that out.

Good post.

The good thing is nobody over here, even in his homeland, pays much attention to him, he has a reputation of a meglomaniac, so his "preaching" tends to fall on deaf ears.
