Can you repent at the moment of death and still have the same salvation as someone who's been a Christian for many years?

If you can time it that closely, yes you will be saved

But there is another judgment

1 Corinthians 3:

11 For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is. 14 If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. 15 If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.

The person who repents on the last breath, has no works to be rewarded for. He will be saved, as we are saved apart from works,  but He will not receive the reward for his good works, whatever that is

We'll know them because those are the ones with the charred and soot-covered appearance ;). There but by the grace of God go I.

Ephesians 2:10
"For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them."

Ephesians 2:1-10
"And you were dead in your trespasses and sins,  in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience.  Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.  But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,  even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),  and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,  so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.  For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;  not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.  For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them."

By grace.
Through faith.
For good works.

How sad it will be to have been saved at the last breath for good works only to have none to show.

Blessedly, I doubt God's pre-existing plan for us to perform good works stops at the grave. What works might God have planned for an incorruptible immortal spiritual being to perform?

And we will be happy they/we are there ;)

So when we hug each other do we get soot or blood on our shiny new white gowns (or both)? :39:

Just another sheep in the flock

Yes. We can see this in Matthew 20:1-16.

Some people say that it doesn’t make sense for somebody who has been a Christian all their life to be in the same state as somebody who did as they pleased all their life and waited until the last second to get their accounts square with God.

A rabbi was asked the same question... actually, "When is the best time to repent?" He answered "At the moment of death." The inquisitor then said, "But how can we know when we will die?" To which the keen rabbi said, "Precisely."
