You can study up on this on wiki. Psychological projection is the process of misinterpreting what is "inside" as coming from "outside". You see people that way because that is the way you are. So you project your subjective reality out on them. Although, I am amazed at the consideration people have for others here where I live. They will stop their car and wait for a pedestrian to give them the right of way. They always hold the door for you at the store. They will often stop to allow you into traffic. In Hong Kong I was amazed at how they would give room to others and give them the right of way. They are mostly professional drivers there.
