GOD Has Written In His Word What He Expects Of Us = Exodus 20;1-17

Exodus 20;1-17

And God spake all these words, saying, I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh His name in vain.

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. Thou shalt not kill. Thou shalt not commit adultery. Thou shalt not steal. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

Deuteronomy 5:6-22

I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. Thou shalt have none other gods before me. Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me, And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments. Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh His name in vain.

Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee. Six days thou shalt labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates; that thy manservant and thy maidservant may rest as well as thou. And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the LORD thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore the LORD thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day.

Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. Thou shalt not kill. Neither shalt thou commit adultery. Neither shalt thou steal. Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbour. Neither shalt thou desire thy neighbour's wife, neither shalt thou covet thy neighbour's house, his field, or his manservant, or his maidservant, his ox, or his ass, or any thing that is thy neighbour's. These words the LORD spake unto all your assembly in the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice: and He added no more. And He wrote them in two tables of stone, and delivered them unto me.

Matthew 22:37-40

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Mark 10:18-19

And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God. Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.

Mark 12:29-31

And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

Luke 18:19-20

And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God. Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.

John 14:15

If ye love me, keep my commandments.

John 14:21

He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

John 15:10

If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in His love.

Salvation is by grace, through faith, not of works; Paul speaks of 'obedience of faith' and 'obedience to the faith' as we follow the Lord Jesus, trusting in His finished work at the Cross; but salvation is not work-based.

And James taught--Faith without works is dead--Thus Faith and works go hand in hand.

Works builds up a true living faith that will stand when satans attacks come. Without the works James was saying ones faith is worthless and will fall when satans attacks come. And being saved is not just handed to one because he believes. As the OP clearly shows. obeying is proof of ones love for God and Jesus. No pick and choose. Jesus taught--Man does not live by bread alone, but by EVERY utterance from God=OT-NT= years of study, it never ends i believe.

One of the biggest problems is that blind guides assure one they are saved, he does not know, that is fact. Thus they do little to bother and learn every utterance, thus cannot obey.

That matters little as Paul is referring to the righteousness needed for fallen mankind to stand before a Holy God.

It takes the PERFECT RIGHTEOUSNESS of Jesus Christ which no man has but which God gives as a gift found in His Son.

Good works (James) is a fruit only born again believers can produce.

IOW the justification Paul speaks of, only comes as a free gift on account of the righteousness of Jesus Christ.

The justification James speaks of gives evidence that God is working in us as believers.

Php 2:12  Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;

Php 2:13  for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

Yes, Jesus opened the door to all, Yet he taught Few would find the road. Why? Because they entered through the broad and spacious path( having their ears tickled)2Tim 4:3) and do not bother learning every utterance to live by them and cannot obey what they do not know. Some man told them they were saved. Yet he has NEVER seen a single name written in Gods book of life. He CANNOT read another's true heart. He DOES NOT KNOW who will endure until their end. thus has 0 right assuring them they are saved. It only hurts them to tell them that.

It also hurts babes in the Lord to cast doubts on their assurance.

As far as the narrow way goes, I like to say “The way is as narrow as the cross is wide”. There really is no other way than Jesus Christ and Him crucified.

Jesus teaches this--Matt 7:21--Those living now to do his Fathers will get to enter his kingdom( be saved) that will= Man does not live by bread alone, but by EVERY utterance from God=1540 pages of utterances.--Best to believe Jesus. Because he went on to say verse 22-23-- Those think they are christian, told they are christian, yet Jesus will tell them, no matter what you think or are told you do for me--get away from me you who work iniquity(practice a sin) i must confess i never even knew you=judgement scenario. I would say every one of them believed they were saved.

Matthew 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

You need to read carefully Romans chaps:1-3. You will see there, ALL have sinned and have fallen short of God's glory, so there is ONLY ONE who has done the will of His Father.

Matthew 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
Matthew 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

These are not born again (hence: 'I never knew you').

Besides these show the carnal fruit of pride and self-works( have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name we have cast out devils? and in thy name we have done many wonderful works?).

These people were trusting in their own works rather than giving glory to the Son.

Like I said read and reread Romans chapters 1-3. It's the heart of the Church's faith.

None are born again that work iniquity=practice a sin.

What Matt 7:22-23 is showing= is no matter what you think you do for Jesus or are told you do for Jesus, if you practice a sin( work iniquity) you will lose.

There were NO Christians when Jesus was manifest on earth as Messiah to Israel. Jesus is speaking to people UNDER the Law. We, the Body of Christ are NOT under the Law and are NOT the center of God`s word, Jesus is. We learn of His character and His purposes, but it is NOT all about us!
