Severe anxiety, particularly associated with anxiety disorders, sets in motion a process in the brain which causes the release of a number of hormones (such as adrenaline and cortisol) throughout the body. Some of these hormones increase blood pressure and heart rate, all of which contributes to chest pain... sweating... a sensation of tightness in the chest accompanied with breathing issues (some people may hyperventilate), to name some common symptoms.
