But it seems to me, that right now where I am we can have people who speak Spanish and little to no English. So, I am specializing in learning Spanish, and it is fun to share, at times with people from Mexico and south of there. At first, I did not know how to say much, and I did not understand well. But I memorized Bible verses that say things I might want to say to people. And even though I might not know all the vocabulary and grammar in a verse, still I could say the verse to bless people. And now I have more Spanish so I can say things not memorized from the Bible. I meet Hispanics often in stores. And we can say hi and Que Dios bendiga, which means God bless you. And Igualmente, which literally means "equally", I think. And so, if someone says "Igualmente" back when you bless them, I understand they mean, "likewise". Does anyone here know English and Spanish well? How do you understand "igualmente"? Edited March 8, 2023 by com7fy8

I remember some things. You just corrected me here because all these years I was remembering “Encantada” as likewise, but it means nice to meet you. the response to Encantada is igualmente. thanks for the refresher lol

How do you understand "igualmente"? College English and Spanish professor here: "Igualmente" means "equally" or in your context, "the same to you." You could use it after someone gives you a complement or if someone says something nice to you, you say it back to them using that word. It is great that you are expanding your ministry by learning Spanish to address the spiritual needs of people in your community with that language background.

Also - - "mucho gusto" I think means I am glad to meet you. @BibleStudent100 And can't encantado/a mean enchanted?

As is mucho gusto.

So I am curious if the two words are related. I mean . . . possibly encantar means to put a song into someone's heart . . . and so delighting and charming someone. Although "encantado" means "nice to meet you," in more precise terms, it means "enchanted" to meet you and is close to the same word in French: "enchante."

Not me, what I understand I understand through my wife who does; and whom has been a bit of a traveler of the Southern hemisphere where various forms of Spanish, (and Portuguese) are the commonest languages. Neither she nor I speak a mutually common USA English, so that makes for a bit of fun too. How are you advancing along in conversation beyond greetings in Spanish? Greetings of endearment Mucho gusto ( My pleasure, or it is nice to meet you) would be a more common greeting to a stranger, Elgusto esmio ( The pleasure is mine) the more common response. For me the more common greeting would be Eh! and the response Eyuhp. LOL
