In Matthew 23 Jesus condemned the "esoteric" rabbis who swear by the gold or by the gift at the temple.

Approaching God with esoteric methods instead of Holy Spirit from Lord Jesus.

That had nothing to do with the Kabbalah.  The Kabballah didn't exist in the first century.

I was talking to a Jewish friend who said that the Kabbalah that is practiced by folks in Hollywood and other celebrities isn't Kabballah.  He's said its just New Age stuff with a Jewish schtick.  The actual Kabballah is a secret teaching and only the most worthy among the Orthodox are allowed to practice it.  You have to be a Torah scholar, at least 40 years of age and some other stuff I don't remember.   But yeah, anything you can get a bookstore isn't the real Kabballah.
