I have done a quick scan of Daniel looking for anything that would tell me that these writings were written for the Jews..... specifically for the Jews. And with God telling us 'repeatedly' I should have found something.

Maybe a person meant that we could deduce from Daniel that it was written for the Jews. Perhaps a few clues here and there. Perhaps reading between the lines.

I believe that the whole book of Daniel was written  "to those who have an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says...."

I say this because I believe that the Book of Daniel is a prophecy for the church for the last days, for the final 70th week.

Jesus tells us in Math 24:14-15............. "This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come. Therefore when you see the AofD which was spoken of through the prophet Daniel....(let the reader understand)..."

Jesus tells us to look at Daniels' prophecies for understanding.

Well, you certainly are right that Daniel speaks to the end times, and that does include the Gentiles. But Daniel begins with the Jews going to Babylon, then he strives to bring the One true God to the Gentiles WHILE in captivity. Then, the focus turns quickly to their return from Babylon. This begins the 70 weeks of years prophecy which focuses on the restoration of Jerusalem, the city, the Temple, etc., - all the things that were taken from them by the Babylonians. Everything must be fully restored.

The Jews will be responsible for restoring the physical elements- the walls, the Temple, etc., as well as all the Levitical ceremonies and feast days. They will fulfill their part of the restoration PRIOR to the beginning of the final 7 years or the last week of the prophecy. Every item will be restored in the reverse order they were taken. Consequently, the last piece of furniture to he restored will be the Ark of the Covenant in the form of the coming Messiah. He will literally arrive on the 1st day if the 70th week as prophesied in 9:24 to 9:27.

All of chapter 9 speaks to the Jews and the needed restoration of all things after Babylon.

Gabriel tells Daniel these visions and interpretations are for him and his people. Everything is centered around the Jews.

There are two major things to be fulfilled DURING the 490 years: the Jews must fulfill their restorative elements (in preparation for the coming Messiah), and they were successful. The final 7 years were a set aside period for the Messiah for Him to complete the only remaining element- only He could restore the Presence of God in the Temple - and He also was successful.

Both parties fulfilled their requirements and even though the Messiah was “cutoff” in the middle of the last 7 years, He fulfilled all things His Father asked of Him to complete (9:246. The 70 weeks prophecy is completed. The Messiah confirmed the New Covenant DURING the last 7 set aside years of the prophecy. There is no 7 year agreement to be made by some anti-Christ mythical figure. This is ALL about the Messiah and His plan to save man from their sin by the cross.

And let me mention one more thing that EVERYONE (all commentators) have misunderstood and misinterpreted— the Abomination that cause’s desolation is NOT an end time event .

The AOD does not speak to the destruction of any physical items, buildings- whether we are talking about the second Temple inn70 AD, or some 3rd Temple (that will never be constructed). Remember, Solomon’s Temple was completely destroyed… the second Temple was completely destroyed. However l, the AOD MUST be the most monumental, horrific and devastating event in the history of mankind to rise to such a level (can not be a structure. After all, the cross had done away with the sacrificial services, the need for a Temple or Sanctuary. Jesus became our High Priest, our sacrifice, etc. They were ALL a type and shadow of the coming Messiah. Their mission was fulfilled.. their physical destruction (70AD) was simply the destruction of a building that had served God’s purpose.

Therefore, something so spectacular is necessary to cause this “desolation.” But it is not referring to a “physical” kind of desolation- it speaks of a complete desolation between God and the Jews. For 2000 years, as a result of their rejection and crucifixion on their Messiah, the Jews would lose their relationship with the One true God. Unlike their 70 year punishment in Babylon (but where God promised He would bring them back to Jerusalem), as a result of the cross, they would became entirely “desolate” from their God. But God will bring them back and restore His relationship with them when He removes their blindness from their eyes and they will recognize the One they have pierced.

Therefore, the ABOMINATION THAT CAUSES THIS DESOLATION can only be the crucifixion of their Messiah. Nothing on earth could be a greater evil, horrible event and transgression. Nothing- no destruction of a building o city could CAUSE a separation between God and His people.

The cross is the AOD, and Jesus Himself spoke of this by referring to the book of Daniel.
