A car is stolen every six minutes in Canada, according to a 2023 report by the Canadian Finance and Leasing Association. The Toronto Police Service is now advising residents to leave their car keys at their home’s front door for thieves. “To prevent the possibility of being attacked in your home, leave your fobs at your front door because they’re breaking into your home to steal your car. They don’t want anything else,” Toronto Police Service Constable Marco Ricciardi said to residents at a recent community safety meeting in Etobicoke. And Canada is horrible in the winter. What is their alternative if they have no car? My mother went there once in the winter to go to a church, but she didn't know you cant use a debit card there, so they only had a little cash to buy food, but could not rent a car. It was only a kilometer or so walk to that church, but it was so insane cold and nobody gave her a lift, she got very sick. Here they steal those electric bikes and fatbikes, so I bike around on an old barrel that's not electric with 2 locks and they don't want it. Maybe they should sell em to another country and drive in some old lousy thing that almost falls apart. Edited April 14 by RdJ

Humor aside, if the thieves are indeed violent, truth be told a car isn't worth anyone's life and leaving the keys outside would save on property damage. Shame the Canadian government can't crack down harder on the thieves though.
