Gog and Magog

Let us do a study on Gog and Magog. I believe this is also a very interesting

topic. First let us begin on who Gog and Magog are.

Well, in Genesis 10, Magog is described as a son of Japheth.

Genesis 10:2

"The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and

Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras."

Now you might ask, what does this have to do with the Gog and Magog described in Ezekiel 38 and 39. Well, let's find out.

Ezekiel 38:2

"Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the

chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him,"

(KJV)

Now, we see that the Magog found in Genesis 10 is the father [ founder] of this land. Since we know this, we can say that this land is caucasian [ white-

skined men ]. Why? Japheth is the father of white men. So this eliminates any other land other than a white man's land.

I believe this land is present-day Russia. How? Well, if you look at a globe, in

Russia, you will find the city called "Tobolsk", and "Moscow". Compare them to

the Biblical names Tubal and Meshech, and you will see a resemlance. Of course, these names did go through a few name transformations, but that is

a whole other post.

Now, read the NASB version of Ezekiel 38:2.

Ezekiel 38:2

"Son of man, set your face toward Gog of the land of Magog, the

prince of ROSH, Meschech, and Tubal, and prophesy against him,"

(NASB)

In the NASB, it says Rosh as well. Now, what country does Rosh sound

almost exact to? Russia. Of course, the name went through a few name transformations [ a whole other post as well] before it became Russia, but you

can see how they resemble each other so much.

Okay. We have solved that mystery, now we must identify who Gog is. Well, we must go to Ezekiel 38:3 to find out who or what Gog is.

Ezekiel 38:3

"And say, thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal:"

Okay, it says Gog is not a country, but a Chief Prince. It also says it is a

Chief Prince of Meshech ( Moscow ), and Tubal ( Tobolsk ).

Now, let's read the NASB version of Ezekiel 38:3.

"And say, Thus says the Lord God, "Behold, I am against you, O Gog,

Prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal."

The NASB version also says Prince. But, it seems that it is the Prince of Rosh ( Russia ), Meschech ( Moscow ), and Tubal ( Tobolsk ). If this is

correct, Gog is the Chief Prince of Russia, Moscow, and Tobolsk.

However, what is a Chief Prince?

Let's define Prince:

1. A nonreigning member of the Royal Family.

2. Male monarch or sovereign.

3. The son of a sovereign or of a son of the sovereign.

4. One of a high order and nobility.

5. The ruler of a small state.

6. One of the highest rank of any class

We know it can't be definition #1, #2 or #3, for it [the Bible] says nothing about these. Definition #6 looks doubtful as well. So we have either defintion #4 or #5. Number #5 is the most likely in this case.

Now, let's define Chief:

1. The person highest in rank or authority, as the leader or head of a tribe, band, police force, government bureau, etc.

2. A ship's chief engineer; also, a chief petty officer.

3. A boss; Having the highest authority: commander in chief;

This can be Definition #1, but not #2, and it can be #3.

So, if we were to put Chief and Prince together, we would have the highest

ranking ruler of the state, or, King.

The Gog and Magog mentioned in Revelation 20:7 are not the same as the ones mentioned in Ezekiel 38 and 39. I mean, they are the same, but Gog will

be different, a different prince, after the millennium. Can anyway refute the

possibility of the Gog and Magog mentioned in Revelation 20:7 coming back

after the Millennium?

These are the things I am speculating on concerning the Ezekiel 38 passage. Let me REPEAT this is SPECULATION NOT a DOCTRINAL position.

First of all, before this war in Iraq I always considered Persia of Ezekiel 38 as both Iraq and Iran. So this leads me to wonder if this whole thing in Iraq will collapse -- not because it wasn't a worthy effort by the President -- but because of this prophecy.

Also in pondering the question -- Where are the Weapons of Mass Destruction?

I wonder if Saddam may have hid them in the Euphrates river. Just speculation but I wonder if this is tied to --

Revelation 9:14-15 Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates. And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men.

Just some other aspects of the Gog and Magog invasion of Ezekiel 38 which I haven't heard yet.

George, knowing Saddam, he would probably hide his WMD's under the Euphrates. Actually George, I like your speculation. It adds more depth to this

discussion which no noe can really comment on.

Mine was also clearly speculation, but research took place for this.

Bombs do not slay, they explode and burn up. If it had something to do with fire ( bombs are partly fire), it would say "burn up" the third part of men. Slay

usually means to kill by a sword.
