From here on out, if you wish to post a news-worthy article, with a link to an offsite article, you should include in your Topic Title the word "Opinion" if it's a op-ed article you are linking to, or "News" if it's strictly a news article. Doing this will help to avoid any unnecessary confusion or contention. Here are a couple of examples: "News: Four Dead in Muslim Protest Saturday" "Opinion: Muslims Should Take a Cue From Their Prophet" If you are confused as to the difference between a news piece and an op-ed piece, generally it's pretty simple: A news piece delivers strictly facts - This is what happened, this is when in happened, this is how it happened, and/or this is what is going to happen. An op-ed piece, or an opinion column, on the other hand, may include relevent news fact, but it also delivers the author's opinion of what happened, why it happened, and how he or she feels about it. So, if you are citing a headline article from the front page of Fox News - that's news. But if you are citing an article from Bill O' Reilly's talking points - that's opinion. Let's try this for a while to see if we can eliminate any unnecessary confusion or contention over the material that we are posting in this forum. And, as always, please feel free to post articles and comment on them, remembering of course, that we are all brothers and sisters here. Much Grace, ~O

Guest stevej
Excellent idea! Personally, it appears that some folks have too much time on their hands and looking for ways to make even the simplest things hard. Thats my opinion and i'm stickin to it! Guest ecassese
Hello Ovedya. I am writing to ask for your help with a survey. The Religion and Politics in American Life Survey is part of a student research project designed to explore public opinion on issues at the intersection of religion and politics. I was wondering if you would allow me to post a link to the survey here. So far, many people have responded to the survey, but the response has overwhelmingly been from people who labeled themselves secular. Unless the opinions of people with faith are represented in the survey, it will have a strong secular bias. I will provide you with more information if you are willing to consider my request. I appreciate your time and consideration, Erin Cassese PhD Candidate Stony Brook University ecassese@ic.sunysb.edu
