To the OP, How many Muslims do you know? and how did they show you that they despise you for being Christian? Do you have some sort of empirical proof that most Muslims despise Christians?

Yeah, I think it is easy to make ignorant and sweeping generalizations, and that would certainly be one. I mean we are talking about 1/4 of the world

I have to say that I have known muslims who have hated Christians. I wouldn't say that they all do, no. See, Muhammed basically had two types of teachings...the ones on war and the ones with a more peaceful view. The warlike ones are where it says things like to kill infidels. In the Muslim world these two different groups of teachings create two different kinds of Muslims, if you will: The ones who follow the warlike teachings, and the ones who tend to stick to the ones about peace.

What about the man in Afganistan who may be facing the death penalty for converting to Christianity?

*nods* that definitely happens a lot. That's obviously from the war teachings...and there's definitely Christian-specific targeting the way they carry those teachings out.

There are 1.5 billion Muslims in the world. All it takes is 10% to carry out their hatred against Christians and Jews, to make it significant.

The majority of Germans did not hate Jews, but it only took a minority of Germans, to carry out the Holocaust.

What about the man in Afganistan who may be facing the death penalty for converting to Christianity?

What about the Inquisition?

Groups within every major religion has done dirt. Some Christians have been guilty of crimes as terrible as any Muslim's worst. Crimes of this sort can be used to make generalizations about all or most adherents to those faiths or to discredit any religion. But are sweeping generalizations and the prejudices formed as their result really that useful or helpful?

The crimes are to be condemned--not the criminals' religious affiliations.

The only difference between the Inquisition and Islam's "Fatwa" is that, at some point Christians decided that it was probably a bad thing to brutally slaughter innocents in the name of God. Islam has never come to that realization. It's propagation has always depended entirely upon conquest.

It becomes a real issue when the the crime and the religious affiliation become inextricably intertwined.
