Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

I can make an observation about my neighbor and still be loving them

Take a look at all the pomp and circumstance of the Catholic church - the hats, the pope mobile, bowing down, kissing rings, the robes, etc, etc,

Did the REAL early Christian church act anything like this? Jesus washed the feet of the disciples and taught us many times over to serve ONE ANOTHER. There is so much humility and love in the early Christian church. Read the epistles, the gospels, all of it.

And continue to pray for wisdom. And yes, I certainly do the same.

In fact, I've prayed "Lord, you've said in your word that wisdom will be given. And I definitely need wisdom here. If I've somehow been mislead, and somehow missed the reality that the Catholic church is truly the way you wish me to go, please help me to better understand that and open my eyes. I believe I already know what the truth is, but please guide me and correct me if I am wrong."

Can you guys actually pray the same thing, inserting protestant where I've mentioned 'catholic'?

Would you dare? I'm not afraid of truth. I definitely want to know what truth is.

If I'm supposed to be led toward catholicism, that may very well begin with you guys answering my many questions that I have problems with. Frankly, you don't seem to be answering them very well. You dodge many of them.

Which brings some more unanswered (yet asked) questions to the forefront.

Regarding Mary's alleged continuous virginity. In light of the obvious fact that Jesus had brothers and sisters, which do you think is more likely? That onlookers called Jesus friends brothers and sisters, while naming others who were obviously just friend and calling them by name, or that Joseph was previously married and had kids prior to his marriage to Mary? What's the most likely?

Another subject I dropped earlier due to lack of time (and who knows how much I'll have in the future) was regarding Christ and salvation. I asked which do you think God would be more pleased with.

A) Someone who does works because they are in fear of their salvation.

B) Someone who does works, knowing they are saved, but simply out of love.

Only one of of the Catholics answered (forgive me here for not remembering who), stating A, but I don't remember a good explanation as to the answer.

God is referred to countless times as a parental figure "Father", so obviously we should think of him as such.

Are you a parent? Which would please you more, as a parent?

A) Your child does the dishes because they fear they will not be allowed to go rollerskating unless they do?

B) You come home to find your child does the dishes, already having been given permission to go rollerskating, but does it out of love and respect for you.

Let's be honest here. Which would make you more pleased?

.....................................................................

I have read in ancient manuscripts.

would take a bit to find which ones.

that Joseph was an older man and had sons.

when first asked to take Mary as his bethrothed

he said no! I have sons,

but the elders of his place told him he was chosen by God

so he agreed...........and took her for his keeping.

Sure, find it, but I don't necessarily trust ancient manuscripts. Some of them are complete crap - example - Homer.

I don't think Homer was trying to author scripture(?) and think a few things he said may be more historically accurate than some give him credit for. I agree, though, that was probably the gospel of Peter or Thomas, or some other GNOSTIC gospel, and I wouldn't trust them too much.

Where does it say in the Bible that Joseph and Mary actually married?

I am the one who answered before and still answer A. We are to work out our salvation in fear and trembling. B is contradictory to what the Bible says, you are not supposed to proclaim yourself saved, that is up to the judgement of God when you stand before Him, Paul made that clear enough. He said that he was not saved. You must endure to the end.
