Guest Biblicist
Let's start here: If you can provide CLEAR scripture that says a woman CAN indeed teach a man or have authority over him in the church in in an authoritive sense, not merely giving him the gospel, please show it to me so I can reconcile it with the others that say she can't. Romans 16: Junia was a woman and an Apostle. If you wish to engage in this discussion, then the scope of scripture will be one of our goals. Maybe next we could look at the debate over the meaning of the Greek word translated 'authority' in the 1 Timothy passage under discussion or we could look at what biblical authority itself actually is. There are many places to choose from where we could begin. Most importantly, the question still is where? After all doctrine is built on precept upon precept, word upon word, verse on verse/passage, etc. Unless you would rather begin elsewhere, let's start with the Apostle Junia. This is getting off topic. And taken out of context. We must be careful not to base an entire belief on one part of one verse of the Bible when other parts clearly state the contrary. I was answering FoC which is why it was getting off topic. You know that. What's taken out of context? I know how doctrine is formulated which is the point I was trying to make. We must be careful not to let ourselves be falsely indoctrinated.

The key word here is USURP: to wrest away from or overtake. Woem must not gang up on men!

Why did you feel you needed to, had to, answer with FoC said, in passing? I know full well how false doctrine is formulated. I was a victim of false doctrine, now I know better. The context of scripture is the WHOLE of scripture. As always, we must take everything into the context of all of what God said, not just verse, chapter or even books. Maybe this conversation would be better in another thread. I have often wondered about women pastors.
