when you are typing in a thread how do you know when someone is teasing or joking being serious or sarcastic? How can one read between the lines when I don't know the individual and then get blasted out for over-reacting to someones statement even when they made a valid point in there joking. However I was not trying to over re-act, rather I was trying to clairify but it got misunderstood. How do your read between the line when there is no indication of what you can tell if a person is being teasable, jokable, sarcastic, or serious?

Thats a good point and I'm afraid with having conversations on a computer will continue to be a problem. There is no body language to watch or tone of voice to listen to. If I don't know the person very well, well quite often I make mistakes, if I make a mistake I usually apologize on the thread and pm the person privately with an apology. If its somebody thats been on here awhile, you just kinda know, usually anyway.

Mistakes happen, if you take somebody wrong or they take you wrong, say your sorry or pm them to find out whats going on and then move on. Some of my best friends on here now, are people who I thought I was having a disagreement with when we first started talking.

Does that help???

All you have to do is ask.

But I have seen some use an emotion to soften an obvious insult.
