I got baptised in the lake and it was freezing cold (it was only may!!) and there were dead fish floating around so it was kind of gross. But that really wasn't the point because it isn't about the actual water - its a symbolic thing. But anyways, I wore my bathing suit under my clothes, and wore a dark shirt so its harder to see. Oh and yes do bring a towel. Oh and make sure your mouth isn't open when you go under cuz that's kind of gross too. I didn't wear makeup either...I don't think you really need any. But it is a really important thing to do and I don't think you should hold out just because of a few minor things that can be worked out if you really wanted to!
