The darkness could be a religious mindset, hesitation on his part to receive the gift, knowing how to operate in the gift, lack of confidence in hearing Yahweh's leading. He'll have to ask for Yahweh's wisdom & understanding. I believe that the day of huge ministries will decline (empty pulpit) as many believers in local settings receive and act on their gifts. The big auditorium filled with people reflects that the needs of the people (all ages) are still large in number. (Those needing healing won't have to attend a large healing conference/meeting somewhere), they will be prayed for by someone who believes locally - the gifts will be operating more in churches and other places such as auditoriums. The reason I ask is this. I believe God has called your friend into a healing ministry but he is now comfortable in the darkness(sin).He needs to climb the stairs(accept his calling and grow in the word)Then God will place him where God wants him(That is behind the pulpit ministering to others)To their physical and spiritual needs.
