Jesus - the Son is God`s Heir.

Jesus the Son is God`s Heir.

The glorified Son, at the Father`s right hand is then appointed heir of all the Father`s estates – all things.

`God, who at various times and in different ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son who He has appointed Heir of all things,..` (Heb. 1: 1 & 2)

The enemy tried to get rid of God`s Son, Jesus because he knew He was the heir to the Father`s inheritance. This is revealed in one of the parables about a man who planted a vineyard and at the right season sent his servants to collect some of the fruit. Some servants were beaten, and others killed. Finally, the man sent His only son.

`Therefore still having one son, his beloved, he also sent him to them last, saying, “They will respect my son.” But those vinedressers said among themselves,

“This is the heir. Come let us kill him and the inheritance will be ours.” And they took him and killed him and cast him out of the vineyard. ` (Mark 12: 6 – 8)

God the Father warns the kings of the earth to bow to His Son, the Heir over all.

`Now therefore, be wise, O kings; be instructed, you judges of the earth. Serve the lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way…` (Ps. 2: 10 – 12)

Son – Heb. `bar,` a title for the heir apparent to the throne.

The Father gives His Son the inheritance also of the nations.

`The LORD (Father) has said to me, “You are my Son….ask of me and I will give you the nations for your inheritance and the ends of the earth for your possession.`                         (Ps. 2: 7 & 8)

As King Jesus has all power, and then as heir He receives all possessions, making Him Lord of all.

`And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: King of Kings and Lord of Lords.` (Rev. 19: 16)

Heir is very confusing for me. It seems to have a different meaning on earth than in Heaven.

Dispensation meaning. In the Bible, periods of time during which God has dealt with people in different ways.

this helps no end to better understand the bible and it opens your eyes up somewhat!!!

Reminds me of Joseph and his dream of the corn sheafs and how his brothers were angry regarding that dream

Can you explain what you mean there, NConly? Just interested.

Yes, I like the unfolding revelation of God and His purposes through the various dispensations.

Never thought of that about Joseph. Very interesting there, mabel.

a person legally entitled to the property or rank of another on that person's death

The above is how I understand the definition of heir.

However God lives for ever so for Jesus to become heir and us co-heir seems something is different about the definition of heir.

Then throw in sayings like everyone is in mid 30's in heaven.

then descriptions of God sometime make it appear he is aging which should not be

Just had a thought.    Jesus is the heir to all that the Father has (all things) but the father will never die.

Hi @NConly and @other one,

Thank you for your good contributions to this topic.

I have thought about it and was remined of the scripture above in Mark 12: 6 - 8. It is a parable concerning the Lord as heir who has come to administer regarding the estate.

And then again in Ezekiel 46: 16 the sons of the Prince, if given some of his inheritance it is their possession by inheritance.

Also, we all remember the prodigal son (Luke 15: 12) who wanted his inheritance early and went and wasted it.

Thus, I see that an heir can help manage his inheritance, and then also be given it before the Father died.

How does that seem to you both?

@NConly Interesting also that Hebrews 1 speaks of the Lord Jesus as having been 'appointed heir of all things'.
