  1. Sorry mate..i cringed a little when i read "Big Guy". I don't think this is a respectful name for our Lord. OK. No disrespect intended, but point accepted. A Disciple
  2. Hey, I've read some of your posts. You've got a pretty good head on your shoulders and a sincere desire to discover His will. You will find it. I'm horrible at remembering chapter and verse so this is an awful paraphase, but - He who began a good work in you will complete it. I'll get started trying to find that verse. Your doing fine! A Disciple Found the verse - Philipians 1:6
  3. Got carried away there - please ignore. A Disciple
  4. Can't say I get anything real tangible from the Big Guy either. But looking back a bit, all the good things in my life are the very things I would have done differently at the time if I could. I'm a guessin' that is not an accident. A Disciple
  5. Yes, I finally caught up! I've been pretty intrigued by this thread because I've been listening to a librivox recording of John Locke's Letter Concerning Toleration. It is a really good listen, I reccomend it highly. Interestingly, when he wrote it, we were burning Catholics, or they were burning us Protestants. I forget who's turn it was. A Disciple
  6. Would you mind expanding on your expansion? I don't have a clue. OK, full story, I'm hoping to put a list in my Bible of the absolute essentials to remember during personnal witnessing. I have an opportunity to go with someone doing prison ministry to see if it is for me. I was just asking if we had exhausted what needs to be on that list. I'm certain my mind will go blank on certain questions if I'm not prepared. I didn't put this in before because I do not want any undeserved kudos - please don't - I'm not there yet - haven't done anything but consider trying it. A Disciple
  7. Thank you everyone! You were so careful to do what I asked that now I feel like an obsessive-compulsive third grade school teacher. (Wonder why that phase comes with visual ) If you're still with me, let's expand a bit. Here is my second go: The Holy Bible is the Word of God. The original authors were inspired by the Holy Spirit. 8. Guess I should put one in myself, so here goes: God is the supreme power in the universe - or creation. He is in control of it's beginning, it's end, and all things between. A Disciple
  9. I've noticed that the things we disagree about seem to get discussed a lot more than the things we agree on. So let's start a list of the most fundamental Christian beliefs just for fun. Let's do it as if we were getting a new Christian started growing in the faith. In other words, leave the controversial stuff till page 10 or 12 at least. If you don't mind, each person introduce one point at a time. That way it won't seem as if one person is trying to dominate the conversation and maybe we can prevent anyone getting their dander up for a while. Remember to keep it simple - like a newly saved Christian were going to read this - after all, we all hope they will! A Disciple
  10. Yes nebula, I think a lot of us have habits in our prayers that perhaps we don't have completely thought out. One of mine was to end with "even so your will - not mine." It sounded a lot different one day after praying on a life or death matter for a family member. Kinda sent chills through me then, and I don't say that prayer without thinking anymore. A Disciple
  11. Does anyone else ever think that all these legalistic debates we get into about the intricate meanings of scripture probably look pretty funny to God? These things we make such "wars" over are probably attempts at giving some understanding to finite minds of things that are well beyond the finite - completely beyond our reach. I do not think He will be looking at checkmarks on a list when I am evaluated at the end. He will know my very heart - no secrets - and He will do justice without referring to a list of statutes I might try to hide behind. That is frightening enough - immersion baptised and all!
