  1. I am using my husbands account...Can anyone speak to 1 Cor 14:34 and 1 Timothy 2:11 regarding women and silence?
  2. thanks, just ordered 5 books off of amazon...
  3. not to hijack the thread i just didn't want to start a new one... so is it generally accepted that it was wine (fermented), not just grape juice...
  4. it is referring to dying in Christ and becoming/birth of a new creature where our sins are washed away. The bible lays out all these steps, belief, repentance, and baptism. There are numerous verses that discuss that for example.. Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into His death? Therefore we are buried with Him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection. Romans 6:3-5. does that make sense??
  5. Fair enough. The issue of men having long hair and women having short hair is not a sin issue. This is made clear by the following verse. 1 Corinthians 11 16 But if anyone seems to be contentious, we have no such custom, nor do the churches of God. I personally believe Paul is making referrence to a physical desciption of Christ. Many people disagree with me and I'm fine with that, I'm not going to argue the point. I also don't believe that Paul's message was for the Corinthians alone. I know this doesn't help but I felt I needed to respond to your post to me. thanks for the response, do you mind expounding on your feelings of vs. 16, because i have always heard it said that verse means, if anyone wants to "cut hair/woman not have long hair" that you tell them all the churches of God agree that they should have long hair....ps for the record i have no issue with you "agruing your point" because i posted on here to get multiple opinions.....
  6. Tell us. If i had a strong opinion on it i would. I am currently "undecided" or on the fence so to speak on it. After doing (very little) studying on it i am leaning towards the idea that it is refering to the pagan worship and men dressing like women and he is addressing woman respecting men, etc.. but then people will make the same argument about homosexuality... i also struggle when it says 4 Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. 5 But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head
  7. What do you believe these verses are referencing when refering to women and hair?? (1 cor 11)
  8. i was looking for some non bible references....
  9. Looking to buy some more books and wonder what ya'll would recommend, #1 not interested in fiction books at all, if it is fiction i have no interest in reading it... just to give you an idea of what books i have read and liked... i have read all of lee strobel's books, some norman geisler, some hank hannegraaff, phillp yancey, max lucado.... i also like books that are a little deeper theology wise. for example i tried to read purpose driven life and couldn't get through it...anyways thanks in advance....
  10. What is the earilest description we have of a church service (prefer to include communion)? Thanks any links or references would be great....
  11. This, after reading the 1st post i would say he was making the point that we are punished for sins....
  12. Last time i checked God is not concerned about numbers and He is still in control. So i am not going to stress about Islam "beating" us, because narrow and few is will find heaven..
  13. thanks didn't notice that until you pointed that out...... made the change..
  14. We are told to, "Repent and be baptized FOR the remission of sins", not because of. In Romans 6 it gives us the outline of how baptism works in removing our sins. We are buried with Jesus in his death where our old man of sins is cut away, and we are raided up again in the newness of life. We are also told to have faith in that operation. Colossians 2:12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. That operation is the one spoken of in Romans 6. Many have said that water does not take our sins away. That is true. It is not the act of going down into the water it is the act of obeying the form in which God gives us to obey him. 1 Peter 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: This is saying that baptism is not like as in taking a bath, but going down into the waters of baptism with the faith that my sins are being washed away because God commanded it is the answering of a good conscience toward God. We see all over the bible where God has demanded some things from people that seem off the wall, but it isn't the act of the thing that was done, but the fact that God was looking for faith and obedience in doing what was told to do. We know that grape juice and crackers don't give us spiritual life, but Jesus states that if we do not partake of the Lord's Supper we have no life in us. Do juice and crackers make us righteous? No, but our faith and obedience in taking of the LS to remember the death of Jesus is what does. Just like the LS and many other things that God has required of man for obedience baptism is another one in a way that he has required man to obtain remission of his sins and to receive the HS. After that we can go to God in prayer each time we sin. that is excellent.... i have always wondered how people that think baptism is just "washing" so to speak feel about 1 peter 3:21 because i never get a straight answer....
  15. Hopefully this is not taken the wrong way, but don't you think maybe there is a reason the bible doesn't tell us the exact date and more importantly can you imagine all the good you could learn/accomplish if all this effort to "find" Jesus's birthday was actually put into REAL, quality research on Jesus's teaching?
  16. I am going to give a slightly "different" reply... I think one of the things that really started me maturing in Christ was when i realized that being a "strong" christian was so much about being able to "resist" sin, but rather know your limitations and be sure you don't end up a situation that is prime for sin. Meaning someone that struggles with drinking shouldn't hang out at a bar, rather with positive friends that prevent him from drinking. So you cannot think that if you are living with some guy and just praying "God please help me to be strong" that you won't fall into temptation. I used to have a big problem with my temper and when i could feel my temper getting bad and instead of thinking "oh i can handle this", i started just taking myself out of the situation and then nothing bad happened! So the key is to put yourself in key situations that don't allow things to happen. I did an in depth study on porn (and orgasms in general) and when you see a brain scan of someone doing herion and someone having an orgasm, you can start to understand why it is so difficult...
  17. Hank Hanegraaff has a great book basically ripping these people apart (biblically speaking) i have read it and it is great... it specifically addresses these people and what they do.... http://www.amazon.com/Christianity-Crisis-Century-Hank-Hanegraaff/dp/0849900069/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1291089692&sr=1-3
