That's so absurd, it's funny! It is absurd. And it is funny. And it did happen. Several times. -

Actually, that's pretty good. People know you're a Christian, so by confessing Christ as your witness, they may be more likely to accept what you say. -

I tend to agree with you. In fact I 100% agree with you about any word can be used badly. But...if the swear words of our society have been set out, stipulated as such, then we as Christians should avoid them. If society as a whole, has deemed them unwholesome words, then we should too. I agree with that to a degree. I think a lot of modern Christians problems stem from "Society as a whole has deemed...". In the world, not of it I believe you said. While the majority of people will say that the F word or the C word are probably the equivalent of verbal nuclear bombs (and they're right) that doesn't necessarily mean we should avoid them simply because society says they're wrong and we agree. God says the use of words for the wrong purposes is not a good thing. Lots about that in James. Should we avoid them? Absolutely yes! But avoid them because of the reasons God told us to avoid them, and focus on that more than anything, more than society's supposed aversion to them. Society is what's contributing to the wicked state the world is in. Well said. -

Judging by what I've seen of teenagers today... they probably COULDN'T say anything, because most of what comes out of their mouths is just filth, regardless of their current emotional state. They just cuss because they feel it's the cool thing to do, haha. Lol...so it would seem. -

This is a VERY good idea/thought. But alternatives will only work if the person is willing to apply them. And if the person believes they need to apply them. If these swear words are deemed culturally unacceptable, then they would line up with scripture regarding our speech, would they not? I realize too, that any word can be a "swear word", depending on the force/context with which it is used, and that too should be addressed. But as Christians, we are to be different from the world. Honestly, can you see a Christian telling an unbeliever they need f----ing Jesus. Or they need to f---ing get saved and the unbeliever accepting that? If you found this Christian forum full of posts filled with swearing and foul language, I really don't believe you'd be here. Hey, no s---t man. We are Christians...called out. In the world, not of the world. I'm not saying we have to be perfect, but we should most definitely be careful how much of the world is in us. We are to be an example to those who do not know Him. We are His ambassadors. -

Please, I never said the woman wasn't a Christian. I only said she called herself a Christian. I do not know if she is one or not. I do not know her well enough to know what her spiritual state is. She joined my friend and I for lunch and her topic of conversation was swearing. As for the woman in my church and her swearing, I never once indicated she wasn't a Christian. My gosh. -

I don't think anyone said these people are sinning. The scripture verses given in reference also do not say a man sins if he speaks with a foul mouth. They simply - and strongly - admonish that we as God's people, use grace and wisdom in our speech. As Christians, we are to be a witness to those who are outside of Jesus. Being like the world, makes no impact for Christ. -

King James Version About swearing..... James 5:12 But, above all , my brethren, do not swear , either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath. About Cussing.... James 3:10 Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not be so. 2 Timothy 2:16 But shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness. So tell your friends that say these things .... it is ungodly . If an unclean word comes out of my mouth ...I ask God ...immediately to forgive me. Wonderful!!! Thank you so much!! I did search on Biblegateway, but I didn't get all of them. -

I slip up...crickey, it's gonna happen. I get frustrated with the computer and I can swear with the best of them...sometimes better, lol. But to continually swear and with such gusto...hahaha, oh my gosh. You're trying to change your language. Which is awesome. You also recognize that it is ungodly. They don't. Or they refuse to. And I think that's my biggest issue with this whole thing. Thanks for the scripture verse. I'll be able to use that. Absolutely! It's most unGodly. And that verse is what REALLY put it in perspective for me. My wife and I have both been working on it, with mixed results. But I think what your friends' problem is is that they are as you say, OF the world, and not IN it. They're not being the salt, and helping to preserve the world and flavor it. They're more than likely going along with a lot more social norms that are probably disturbing to those of us trying to walk closer to Christ... I agree. Changing is difficult. Especially when we are accustomed to a certain behavior for so long. But...with the Holy Spirit's help, it can be done...yahooey!! I spent years practicing witchcraft...it's been many years since I left that behind, but there are still days when I come pretty close to telling the Lord I'll see Him in a day or so, while I take care of business, haha!!! That's sounds so funny now that I say it. -

I come across so many Christians who have absolutely no problem with swearing. And I mean, swearing. Since when is it okay to let loose with a tirade of nasty language? Or even the "f" word. I had lunch with a woman calling herself a Christian, who says she believes there is nothing wrong with cussing. Or swearing. Even the "f" word is okay to her. I told her we are to be in the world but not of the world. Separate and called out, but that made no impression upon her at all. Her boyfriend has no trouble speaking with every second word being "f" this and "f" that, and then telling my other unsaved friend he needs Jesus. My friend later laughed and said they are no Christians. There's at least one woman in my church who seems to believe that swearing is not an issue either. And though she doesn't use the "f" word, I find myself bothered by her language. I haven't said anything, and honestly not sure if I will. Perhaps these are signs of people falling away in the last days. Does anyone else have a problem with this, or am I just being too "Christian".

I really appreciate your post ... and, yes, I've heard this before. However, there are obviously more than one baptism mentioned in the NT. You might speak to the baptism with fire verses ... and the baptism with the Holy Spirit verses in which the Spirit comes UPON people, which has nothing to do with salvation. Yes, yes...the Holy Spirit is indeed "fire". That does actually make sense, though I've no scriptural proof to back me up. Okay, Matthew 21:25, speaks of baptism, not pertaining to salvation, rather to John's ministry. That's the only one I can come with at the moment. As for baptism with "fire", I did find Matthew 3:11, stating that the baptism with the Holy Spirit is a baptism of blessing, while the baptism with fire speaks of judgement. Luke 3:16 says pretty much the same thing. So it would seem that baptism with fire is for judgement. But you are definitely right about there being more than one type of baptism. Especially the baptism with fire. That's a new one for me, so I did learn something. Go figure, lol.

I've no intention of saying anymore. I've said what I've wanted to say. Anything more would just be argumentative.

Study and do some research about these verses. The bible is filled with symbolic messages. And just because it doesn't say "water", does not mean any less about water baptism. You seem to be looking through a tunnel, and you cannot do that when studying the word of God.
-
I'm not sure where you're going with this, but Ephesians 4:5 is a two-fold baptism. Firstly by the Spirit into the body. Secondly, by water as a believer's confession of identification with Christ's death, burial and resurrection. Hebrews 6:1,2 speak to the Old Testament doctrines. Works that were at one time right, but because of the presence of Christ, they are no longer. They are dead. Doctrine of baptisms speaks not to Christian baptism, but it refers to the ceremonial washings that were so prominent among the priests...and the Israeli people. Hebres 9:10 It compares the Old with the New, and how what was once acceptable without Christ, now is not, because of the death, burial and resurrection of Christ.

Walla299, you do what you believe the Holy Spirit is directing you to do in this situation. If He is prompting you to leave, then leave. If He is pressing on your heart for you to stay, then you stay. But you listen to Him...and Him alone. It is His guidance, His direction and wisdom that matters most. Listen to your heart...and His. Amen.

How Much Would You spend On Your Pet?
Mila Friiele replied to GlidingWings's topic in Most Interesting News Developments
I adore my animals. All four of them...two dogs and two cats. But many vets charge way too much and in a small town like mine with only one vet clinic, they can charge whatever they want and you're stuck with it. Unless one drives, then another small nearby town or Quebec charges much, much less. I never did go through with getting Sadie spayed. The vet here wanted to charge $400 to have my 8lb female spayed. The next town over was $217. My friend was going to take me, but the day before her surgery, Sadie went into heat. I just never bothered after that. A second vet clinic opened in town last year, and it cost me $278 to have my five month old male neutered. Plus rabies shots before that and another set when he turns a year. Because it is law, I have to have their rabies shots done every three years. The cats are suppose to be done as well, but because they never go outside, I refuse to pay. They are both 11 years old, probably having their shots twice in all that time. Should any of my animals get sick, I will try what I can do first, before I take them to the vet. There are alternative ways of dealing with some problems. Though Sadie just came back from the vet last week for a nasty rash that won't go away. That cost me $111. Plus the $12 for benadryl I got at the drug store. Teagray got really sick one year. The vet told me he would not live through the night. His organs had - out of the blue - started to shut down. They wanted to do x-rays, tallying up to $700. I refused and told her to give me a good guestimate as to what was wrong. And so she told me. Four hundred dollars later, I brought my cat home to die. Some may not believe that God hears our hearts for our pets, but I am one that does. I truly believe my God saved my cat. With a vet's death sentence and my God's heart for my prayers, Teagray was up to his old self in 3 days. I will spend if I have to spend...within reason.
