Genesis is poetic, yet is also exact in it's account of history, it is pure and reliable. That is a statement I make in faith. I can understand how some would say they can't believe it is literal 24 hour days, but it is because they want to fit supernatural in a "box" of natural "fallen" understanding. Moses wrote Genesis, a guy like you and me, who saw unburnt burning bushes, parted the water at God's word, followed clouds by sheer obedience and so many other things, (also see Hebrews 11). I BELIEVE IT IS DANGEROUS to try to pick and choose parts of the bible as true and/or literal while the the other parts are just poetic or simply metaphoric.... As God told Job, "Where were you when I...", and list a host of things from creations' events. Genesis is the perfect evangelistic companion to the Gospel and epistles. Either the whole bible is absolute truth, or its just a book of no power. Jesus is Creator God as well as Savior and Lord, and the Bible (including Genesis) is an anvil that has worn out many hammers...
