Joel 2:28 – “... I Will Pour Out My Spirit Upon All Flesh…”
Many evangelical preachers quote this passage from Joel, claiming it to be a sure testimony of a soon coming ‘great outpouring of the Holy Spirit.’ A great revival, an evangelical movement that will convert masses of lost souls to Christ.
Some say that this outpouring of the Holy Spirit will happen before the Great Tribulation. Others say soon afterward, being the often-claimed “144,000 Jewish Billy Grahams” of Revelation 7.
But Joel 2:28 says nothing of the kind.
Here is the scenario that immediately precedes the event of Joel 2:28 :
Joel 2:1 Blow the shofar in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD is coming, for it is near: 2 A day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness, like duskiness spread over the mountains. A people great and strong, the like of whom has never been, neither shall be any such after them to the years of many generations. 3 A fire devours before them, and behind them a flame burns; the land is like the garden of Eden before them, and behind them lies a desolate wilderness. Surely nothing shall escape them. … 10 The earth quakes before them, the heavens tremble; the sun and the moon grow dark, and the stars diminish their brightness. 11 Then the LORD shall utter his voice before his army, for his camp is very great: because strong is the One executing his word. For the day of the LORD is great and very terrible, and who can abide it? … 18 Then will the LORD be jealous for his land, and pity his people. … 20 And I will remove far off from you the northerner, and will drive him away into a barren and desolate land, with his face toward the eastern sea, and his back toward the western sea; and his stench shall come up, and his foul odor shall rise, because he shall have acted proudly. … 27 Then you shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and I am the LORD your God, and there is no other: and my people shall not shamed for ever.
Clearly, the event that immediately precedes the outpouring of God’s Spirit is the final great End of the Age battle for the land and people of Israel. That being the same culminating, pre-Millennial war foretold in Ezekiel 38-39, Zechariah 14, and Revelation 16 and 19. (For detailed scriptural accounts of this final battle, see the last part of: https://worthychristianforums.com/blogs/entry/2069-the-end-times-and-the-exodus-part-4/ ; also the series on Ezekiel 38-39 beginning here: https://www.worthychristianforums.com/blogs/entry/3619-ezekiel-38-39-study-notes-part-1/ .)
Following the events of Joel 2:1-27 comes the event of verse 28:
Joel 2:28 And it shall come to pass after that [Heb. אַחֲרֵי כֵן]…
    – after WHAT? After the final heathen invasion of, and God’s deliverance of, the land and people of Israel, just prior to Christ’s Millennial reign. Not well before that, which is when both the Great Tribulation and the sealing of the 144,000 occur.
28 (cont.)…that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh; and your [Israel’s] sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: 29 And also upon the menservants and upon the maidservants I will pour out my Spirit in those days.
So those who preach falsely that this outpouring of God’s Spirit will involve an evangelical movement of the Church, or of the 144,000 Israelites of Revelation 7, inexcusably use Joel 2:28 to justify their claims.
Such claims, however, do sell the books of, and promote the status of, these preachers; because such false teachings are very attractive to the biblically uneducated.
2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires they shall heap up to themselves teachers tickling the ear; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.

Next: Joel 2 Compared with Acts 2

[Admin Note: We must always let the Bible speak, as it does on this matter]
Act 2:14-21  But Peter, standing up with the Eleven, lifted up his voice and said to them, Men, Jews, and all who dwell at Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to my words.  (15)  For these are not drunk as you suppose, for it is the third hour of the day.  (16)  But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel:  (17)  "And it shall be in the last days, says God, I will pour out of My Spirit upon all flesh. And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.  (18)  And in those days I will pour out My Spirit upon My slaves and My slave women, and they shall prophesy.  (19)  And I will give wonders in the heaven above, and miracles on the earth below, blood and fire and vapor of smoke.  (20)  The sun shall be turned into darkness and the moon into blood, before that great and glorious Day of the Lord.  (21)  And it shall be that everyone who shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

SPECIAL NOTE 9/26/2022: Occasionally, the program used to format WCF blogs is changed. This happened again in the last 3-4 weeks. Now, whenever an article is updated, it is moved to the last position in all of the articles. This has resulted in all of these former notices –
Index and summaries of all articles is here:
    https://www.worthychristianforums.com/blogs/entry/1403-index-and-summaries-of-articles/
    – to become obsolete. The above link no longer operates.  NOTE 11/17/2024: The program changed back, and so I am currently in the process of changing the old Index URL to its New URL for each article. Will take a while. Have done about 15 so far.
    Index and Summaries of Articles
I have been discussing, debating, teaching, and learning about Bible prophecy in online forums since the year 2000, and since 9/2014 at Worthy Christian Forums. (Began intensively studying the subject in 1973.) Most of these articles, distilled out of all those years of study and debate, address the great majority of questions that repeatedly crop up on Bible prophecy forums. However, about one-fifth of the articles focus instead on important principles about the nature of man, the heavens, and the Tabernacle and Court.
In the copying over of these articles onto this site, the type-faces and sizes have sometimes changed, generally becoming smaller. You can enlarge the text by keying the Ctrl and plus (+) keys, more than once if necessary. To revert to normal, use the Ctrl and minus (-) keys. Also, if you cut and paste an article to your word processing program (e.g. LibreOffice or Microsoft Word), the original formatting should come through: much more readable that way.
I would like to offer thanks and appreciation to George for allowing me to do this blog on Worthy, as well as for his overall service to the Christian community for the huge work he has put into this site.

    apologetics
Joel 2 Compared with Acts 2
The old issue has been raised to me concerning how Peter’s (mis)quoting of Joel 2:28-32 on the day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit descended upon Christ’s disciples, relates to the fulfillment of the prophecy of Joel 2. Here is the relevant part of Acts 2:
Acts 2:14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice and said to them, “You men of Judea, and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and heed my words. 15 For these are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day. 16 But this is that having been spoken by the prophet Joel: 17 ‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, I will pour out from my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. 18 And upon my menservants and upon my maidservants I will pour out from my Spirit in those days, and they shall prophesy.’”
    – the part in bold being what was misquoted. The Hebrew text there reads “after that,” and the Greek Septuagint translation similarly reads “after these things.” However, the then-common belief of the disciples was that Christ’s return was “near/at hand.” Acts 1:6; Rom. 13:11-12; 1 Cor. 7:29-31; James 5:3, 8; 1 John 2:17-18; Rev. 1:3 Decades later, when the Church was undergoing “fiery trials,” Peter affirmed that assumption again: “the end of all things is near/at hand.” 1 Pet. 4:12, 7 Only in his last epistle, when his execution by the Romans was imminent, did Peter rightly perceive that “the end” was quite possibly not near, when he wrote, “with the Lord one day is as a thousand years… He is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish.” 2 Pet. 3:8-9
Calvary Chapel’s Chuck Smith preached this about the passage:
“Now, because Peter quoted it and declared that what they were seeing was what Joel had spoken about, people have assumed that it was the complete fulfillment of the prophecy of Joel. Not so, in fact, Peter didn’t even say it was the fulfillment of the prophecy. You see, the fulfillment indicates a complete filling. It wasn’t. It was just the beginning of the outpouring of God’s Spirit. But the real prophecy of Joel does not pertain to the day of Pentecost, but the real prophecy of Joel pertains to the last days. It pertains to the nation of Israel when God restores to Israel His position of divine favor and blessing, and Israel will once be again the instrument of God to bring light into the world. “And it shall come to pass afterward,” after Israel is restored…
“So this is yet to be fulfilled. It is a prophecy that is yet future and its real fulfillment is yet to take place.” (The Blue Letter Bible CD. CD-ROM, version 2.30a. Blue Letter Bible, 08/19/2016.)
Peter had a history of making impulsive statements, of getting out in front of the Lord’s plan. Only a few days earlier, he had convinced the disciples that they must choose the replacement for Judas, Christ’s fallen Apostle. Whereas beforehand, that authority had belonged solely to the Lord; which He exercised once more, and only once, when He personally chose Paul.
So Peter correctly understood, as at times before, the principle of the matter – in the case at hand, the “pouring out of [God’s] Spirit” – but not how the Lord was going to apply it. Cf. Matt. 16:13-23
Paul later provided a more accurate and nuanced explanation of the giving of the Holy Spirit. He perceived that the initial descent of the Spirit is only just a “down payment” of that gift: the fullness thereof is yet to come:
2 Corinthians 1:21 Now He who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, is God; 21 who also has sealed us, and given us the earnest/down payment of the Spirit in our hearts. …
5:4 For we who are in this tabernacle groan, being burdened, not that we want to be unclothed, but over-clothed, in order that our mortality might be swallowed up by life. 5 Now He who has wrought us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the earnest/down payment of the Spirit.
Ephesians 1:13 In Him [God] you also trusted, after that you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 Who is an earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of His glory.
So the fullness and the fulfillment of “the pouring out of [God’s] Spirit” is yet to come. And the time of that pouring out, according to God’s Word, will not come during the era of the Church, as so many preachers have falsely proclaimed. It must wait until after the complete redemption of the land and people of Israel:
Isaiah 11:9 They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain: for the earth [or, land] shall be filled of the knowledge of the LORD like the waters covering the sea.

Isaiah 17:1 The oracle/doom of Damascus. Behold Damascus, being deposed from being a city; and it shall become a ruinous heap. 2 The cities of Aroer being forsaken: they shall be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid. 3 Then fortification (or, defense) shall cease from Ephraim, and dominion from Damascus. And the remnant of Syria shall be like the glory of the children of Israel, saith the LORD of hosts. 4 And in that day it shall come to pass that the glory of Jacob shall be brought low, and the fatness of his flesh shall be made lean. … 6 Yet gleanings shall be left in him… 11 [It shall be] a day of affliction and of enfeebling suffering.

    Prophecy, Eschatology
Joseph, Part 2: The Heritage of Joseph
Abraham was the father of Isaac, who was the father of Jacob, the father of Joseph. God gave Jacob the name Israel.
When Abraham was about 75 years old, God made him two promises:
[1] I will make thee into a great nation… [2] and in thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed. Gen. 12:2, 3
The first of these promises made by God to Abraham was physical, one of race: his descendants were to become a great multitude, a chosen nation. The second promise was spiritual, a promise of grace: all the people of the world are to obtain their blessings through the seed of Abraham. The Apostle Paul, in the third chapter of Galatians, says that this spiritual promise is fulfilled in Christ. Gal. 3:8-14 [These two blessings reflect a continuing principle: God always provides two witnesses to the world, one material and one physical. Jesus verified this principle when He said, “…even if you do not believe Me [My words], believe the works [that I do]… John 10:38]
From earliest times, a birthright blessing was passed down by a father to a firstborn son. This birthright brought with it the honors and authority for leadership of the family.
Now, Jacob’s firstborn son Reuben had claim to the birthright of Israel,
…but, forasmuch as he defiled his fatherʼs bed [he “lay with Bilhah, his fatherʼs concubine,” Gen. 35:22], his birthright was given unto the sons of Joseph… 1 Chr. 5:1
At that time the portion of the birthright, together with the kingly and priestly offices, was removed from the sons of Reuben, …and the birthright was given unto Joseph, the kingly office to Judah, and the priesthood unto Levi, because Reuben had defiled his father’s bed. Jasher 36:15
Joseph, the new birthright holder, had two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim. Manasseh was the firstborn. Near the end of Jacobʼs/Israelʼs life, however, he adopted Josephʼs two sons as his own:
And Jacob said unto Joseph…thy two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh…are mine; as Reuben and Simon, they shall be mine. Gen. 48:3, 5
Notice that in these words, Israel spoke the name of the younger Ephraim first. Notice also that Ephraim and Manasseh were to be to Israel “as Reuben and Simon”: that is, as his firstborn and secondborn. Ephraimʼs elevation to the position of firstborn was confirmed a few moments later, when Joseph brought Manasseh toward Israelʼs right hand, and Ephraim toward his left hand. (So Ephraim was at Joseph’s right hand.) Israel crossed his hands, so he could place his right hand on Ephraimʼs head, and his left hand on Manassehʼs:
And when Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand upon the head of Ephraim, it displeased him… And Joseph said unto his father, Not so, my father: for this [Manasseh] is the firstborn: put thy right hand upon his head. And his father refused, and said, I know it, my son, I know it…but truly his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become the fullness of the nations. [Hebrew, וְזַרְעֹו יִהְיֶה מְלֹא־הַגֹּויִם; the Greek Septuagint has, kαι το σπέρμα αυτού έσται εις πλήθος εθνών: and his seed will be in (or, among) a multitude of nations. The KJV mostly follows the Septuagint; but see Rom. 11:25 in Part 3, where the Greek follows the Hebrew text.] Gen. 48:17-19
The LORD acknowledged Ephraimʼs primacy over a thousand years later in this word through the prophet Jeremiah:
Thus saith the LORD… I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn. Jer. 31:7, 9
When Israel laid his hands upon the heads of Ephraim and Manasseh, he blessed them with these words:
God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk…the Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and they shall grow into a multitude [lit., they shall spawn like fish to an abundance] in the midst of the earth. Gen. 48:15-16
By these words, the descendants of Joseph received the first promise that God made to Abraham, to Isaac (Gen. 26:2-4), and to Jacob (Gen. 28:13-14): the promise to become a great nation. The tribes of Joseph (including those who later joined with them) came to be called Israel in later years, just as was promised by the patriarch Israel.

Joseph, Part 3: A Patriarchal Prophecy of Josephʼs Future
[In the following prophecy, the translations and especially the tenses of the verbs are faithful and literal to the biblical Hebrew. Explanations are noted only where most significant.]
Shortly after Jacobʼs blessing of Josephʼs sons Ephraim and Manasseh,
Jacob called unto his sons, and said, Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you [that] which shall befall you in the Last Days. Gen. 49:1
    Of Joseph, he foretold –
49:22 Joseph is a fruitful son/bough, even a fruitful son/bough by a spring; whose daughters/branches have run over a wall:
The doubly-fruitful birthright holder bore so many children that his descendants ran over the border of the biblical Holy Land, and inhabited other lands. [Qal Perfect verb tense: this is an already completed action in the Last Days.]
23 The archers/masters of arrows will have bitterly grieved him, and will have shot him and will hate him:
In the Last Days, arrows are missiles. Besides Jacob here, these projectiles have been seen by Dimitri Dudeman, Henry Gruver, Sarah Menet, and many others. Missiles are aimed at specific places, not at people that are scattered and dispersed. Therefore, Josephʼs descendants in the Last Days must be primarily living together in groups: they are not merely dispersed among the nations.
    24 But his bow shall abide in strength, and the arms of his hands shall be refined as gold (alt., made strong) by the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob – from thence will be shepherding the Stone of Israel – 25 From the God of thy father, who shall help thee;
The gathered descendants of Joseph, receiving Divine help, will be able to overcome the assault against them, being shepherded by the Stone of Israel. [“Shepherding”: Qal predicative active participle. “From thence”: מִשָּׁם/mi-sham.]
and by the Almighty, who shall bless thee [with] blessings of heaven from above, blessings of depths lying beneath, blessings of breasts and of womb: 26 The blessings of thy father will have prevailed above the blessings of my progenitors [?; lit., my conceiving] unto the utmost bound of the everlasting (or, concealed) hills: they shall be for the head of Joseph, and for the crown of the head of the Nazir/Consecrated One of his brethren.
Awesome blessings are yet to come after the attack upon and deliverance of Josephʼs people in the Last Days. [“For the head,” “for the crown”: the preposition ל is used, which means to or for, not on, as in the KJV.]
To sum up: “In the Last Days,” Josephʼs multiplied descendants, living together in some place or places, will be attacked by missiles and be grievously afflicted and hated, but they will prevail with Divine help. The Stone of Israel will personally shepherd his people of Joseph, who will thereafter be greatly exalted and blessed.
In the vision of George Washington at Valley Forge, he was shown that in the third of America’s three greatest trials (Revolutionary, Civil, and Last Days Wars), “hordes of armed men” will invade America and “devastate the whole country.” When “the inhabitants of America…[are] well-nigh overcome,” there will “descend from the heavens…legions of white spirits” who will join them, and they together will then achieve victory. “[T]he whole world united shall not prevail against her [ʻthe Republicʼ],” which shall once again flourish.
The prophecy of Isaiah 17 (see the first paragraph of Part 1) tells about the future failure of the “fortification of Ephraim” (:3), followed by the desolation of his land (:5-11). However, the prophecy concludes by saying that this Divine punishment, caused by means of “nations rushing like the rushing of many waters” (:12), will be followed by a Divine deliverance (:13). The latter shall cause the invaders to flee away “like a rolling thing before a whirlwind” (:13). Washington likewise saw “the dark cloud rolled back, together with the armies it had brought…”
Not so long ago, this country was called “Fortress America.” But the borders and defenses of this land have been being diminished for many years, so the fulfillment of this prophecy appears to be near.

    End Time Prophecy
Joseph, Part 4: “The Fullness of the Nations”
Genesis 48:19 …but truly his [Manasseh’s] younger brother [Ephraim] shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become the fullness of the nations.
Romans 11:25 …blindness in part has happened to Israel UNTIL the fullness/plērōma of the nations shall have come in. 26 And AFTER that all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: 27 For this is my covenant with them, when I shall take away their sins.
Ephesians 1:7 In Him [Jesus] we have redemption through His blood… 10 UNTO a dispensation of the fullness/plērōma of the times, to head up all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth, [even] in him.
Luke 21:24 And they [the Jews] shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem shall be being trodden down by the nations UNTIL the times of the nations be fulfilled/plērōthōsin.
The patriarchal prophecy by Jacob, when he made the sign of the cross with his hands upon the heads of Joseph’s sons Ephraim and Manasseh (Gen. 48:13ff.) – the first instance in the Bible of a laying on of hands – has a much greater significance for our times than most Christians and Jews realize. In part, because Jacob made Joseph “the Nazir/Consecrated One of his brothers” (Gen. 49:26), which consecration passed on through his sons. Christianity, the religion of the cross, was established in Britain by the mid-30’s A.D.
Paul prophesied in Romans 11:25 that when Jacob’s prophecy of “the fullness of the nations” reaches its fulfillment, then, essentially, the End of the Christian Age will come. For God will not begin to restore fallen Israelites to salvation until “AFTER” that time. That time being when the Gospel has been preached to “all the nations” of the earth (Matt. 28:19), primarily through the efforts of Anglo-American evangelists.
Matthew 24:24 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and THEN the end will come.
This worldwide evangelism only became possible through the international law-keeping established by the Pax Britannica and the Pax Americana. AFTER this prophesied era of the evangelization of the nations has been fulfilled, Jesus shall return in the clouds of heaven: then “every eye will see Him,” “all the tribes of the earth will wail,” and the Jews will “mourn for Him,” understanding that He is their Messiah “whom they pierced.” Rev. 1:7; Matt. 24:30; Zech. 12:10
So we should look around the world, and judge whether or not this part of Joseph’s destiny has been fulfilled, or is near to it. Is not the Anglo-American hegemony and its Christianity increasingly being resisted and replaced by an international hegemony of an anti-American and anti-Christian New World Order? If so, “the times of the nations” is near to its fulness.

Israel’s 7 Appointed Holy Assembly Days: What They Represent; Part 1
Leviticus 23 is the chapter of the Bible that describes, in the most detail, the Mosaic ceremonial yearly public gatherings (called “Feasts” in the KJV and other versions). The LORD appointed the Mosaic Tabernacle to be a form, and the ceremonial ordinances to be a representation, of His Way of Salvation for mankind.
What Leviticus 23 is primarily about:
Leviticus 23:2 “Speak to the children of Israel, and say unto them, ‘[These are] the מֹועֲדֵי (mow-ă-dayʹ)/yearly appointed times of the LORD, that you shall proclaim them: these [are] holy מִקְרָאֵי (mik-raw-ayʹ)/public assemblies (or, rehearsals); they [are] my appointed times.’”
So, Leviticus 23 is primarily about 1) yearly appointed times that are also 2) holy assemblies of all the people. Seven such days are described that fulfill both 1) and 2).
The chapter also lists three other special days: one public assembly day that is not a yearly appointed time (the 7th day Sabbath, 23:3), and two yearly appointed times that are not public assembly days (Passover and the “Firstfruits Wave Offering”). 23:5, 10-15 Many Bible teachers erroneously add the latter two into the other seven, and usually subtract out two from those to keep the number at seven. However, Passover and the Firstfruits Wave Offering do not fulfill the biblical requirement of being 2) holy assemblies of all the people. Israelites were forbidden from doing normal labors on holy assembly days. That prohibition did not apply to these two days.
The actual Passover is a sacrifice of a lamb on the 1st month, 14th day of the year; whereas the supper of the Passover takes place on the 15th, being the first day of the “חַג/festival/Feast of Unleavened Bread” (Lev. 23:6), which was also called "the Feast of the Passover." Ex. 34:25
The “Firstfruits Wave Offering” – literally, “sheaf of the first of your harvest,” Lev. 23:10 – is likewise not a חַג/feast. No assembly of the congregation is called for at all; merely one priest. It is only mentioned in one place in the Bible, Leviticus 23:10-15. Which seems strange, seeing that it does foretell, in type, the raising up of Christ, “the firstborn of the dead” (Rev. 1:5), into heaven. But neither the Passover – which represents the crucifixion of Jesus – nor the Firstfruits Wave Offering were holy assemblies required for all the people. (That is, they were only to have a limited audience.)
Next: Spring assemblies – representations already fulfilled in type.

Spring Assemblies – Representations Already Fulfilled in Type
Here and in Part 3 are the 7 מֹועֲדֵי/yearly appointed times of the LORD that are also holy מִקְרָאֵי/assemblies. First, the three
Spring assemblies – representations already fulfilled in type:
    1) first day of the חַג/Feast of Unleavened Bread, wherein the Passover sacrifice of a lamb was consumed, and by when all old leaven was to be discarded; 1st month, 15th day. Lev. 23:6-7
    Temple part: Altar of Sacrifice.
Representation: Sacrifice of carnal acts and desires of the flesh, by means of repentance. And thereby, resurrection and salvation of the body from physical (= the first) death. John 8:34; Rom. 6:6-7
Fulfillment: The crucifixion of the body of Jesus, bringing to pass a resurrection of the dead. A resurrection to life, coming by means of our consumption of His body and His blood. Matt. 26:26-28; John 6:47-58; 1 Cor. 5:7-8
    2) seventh day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread; 1st month, 21st day. Lev. 23:8 The day Israel passed through the Red Sea, thereby being delivered from the worldly influences of Egypt.
    Temple part: Laver of Washing.
Representation: Water baptism. “…all were baptized into Moses…in the [Red] sea…” 1 Cor. 10:1-2
Fulfillment: “Baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.” Mark 1:4 The blood of Christ washes away the worldly sins of our souls, including worldly relationships and worldly doctrine. Leaven represents doctrine. Matt. 16:5-12
    3) חַג/Feast of Weeks/Pentecost; seven weeks from the first weekly Sabbath after the first Feast day of Unleavened Bread. (That Sabbath being the day of the “Firstfruits Wave Offering.”) Lev. 23:15-21 Bread with new leaven (= the establishment of new doctrine) is offered up in the Temple. Lev. 23:17 The Day that YHWH established in Israel His new doctrine from Mount Sinai: the Ten Commandments. Ex. 24:1-9
Temple parts: Holy Place, with its 1) Lampstand: Holy Spirit anointing; 2) Table of Showbread: the bread/doctrine/Gospel of Christ; and 3) Altar of Incense: sacrifices of praise and intercessory prayer.
Representation: Baptism of the Holy Spirit.
Fulfillment: The infilling of Christ’s disciples with the Holy Spirit on Pentecost, seven weeks after He first ascended into heaven on the yearly appointed day of the Firstfruits Wave Offering. Acts 1 - 2:4
Next: Autumn assemblies – representations yet to be fulfilled in type.

    Ezekiel 38 - 39 Study Notes, Part 4
Topics 5 and 6: Plague and Great Hail
Ezekiel 38:22 “And I will bring him [Gog] to judgment with pestilence/plague and bloodshed; and I will rain down upon him, upon his troops, and upon the many peoples who are with him, flooding rain, great hailstones, fire, and brimstone.”
Zechariah 14:12 And this shall be the plague with which the LORD will strike all the peoples who fought against Jerusalem: Their flesh shall be caused to melt while they stand on their feet, their eyes shall be melted in their sockets, and their tongues shall be melted in their mouths. … 15 Such also shall be the plague on the horse and the mule, on the camel and the donkey, and on all the cattle that will be in those camps; so shall this plague be.
Revelation 16:21 [7th Bowl] And great hail from heaven fell upon men, each hailstone about the weight of a talent. Men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail, since that plague was exceedingly great.
Joshua 10:11 And it happened, as they fled before Israel and were on the descent of Beth Horon, that the LORD cast down large hailstones from heaven on them as far as Azekah, and they died. There were more who died from the stones of hail than the children of Israel killed with the sword.
In this great battle in Joshua’s/Yeshua’s day, “the kings of the nations had gathered themselves together…at Thy [God’s] Presence]…” Jasher 89:9; Joshua 10 That battle was a close type and foreshadowing of the End Times events of Revelation 16:12-21 and 19:11-21, when “the kings of the earth…[will be] gathered together to make war against Him [Jesus/Yeshua]…” Revelation 19:19; 16:14 See the 6th and 7th Bowls at: https://worthychristianforums.com/blogs/entry/2069-the-end-times-and-the-exodus-part-4/ .
Psalm 18:12 From the brightness before Him, His thick clouds passed with hail and coals of fire. 13 The LORD thundered from heaven, and the Most High uttered His voice, hail and coals of fire.
Much of Psalm 18 is a vision David foresaw of the End Times.
Topic 7: God’s Spirit Poured Out
Ezekiel 39:28 “ ‘then they [Israel] shall know that I am the LORD their God, who sent them into captivity among the nations, but also brought them back to their land, and left none of them there any longer. 29 And I will not hide My face from them anymore; for I shall have poured out My Spirit on the house of Israel,’ says the Lord GOD.”
Joel 2:28 “And it shall come to pass after that [that is, after “I [God] will gather all nations…[to] enter into judgment with them” (Joel 3:2)], that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh: your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions. 29 And also on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days.”
Isaiah 44:3 “For I will pour water upon him who is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground; I will pour out My Spirit upon your descendants, and My blessing on your offspring.”
Zechariah 14:8 And in that day it shall be that living waters shall flow from Jerusalem, half of them toward the eastern sea and half of them toward the western sea; in the summer and in the winter it shall be.
Isaiah 11:9 They shall neither cause to harm nor destroy in all My holy mountain: for the land shall have been filled of knowledge of the LORD like the waters filling up the sea.

    Ezekiel 38 - 39 Study Notes, Part 3
    Topic 3: A Great Earthquake
Ezekiel 38:19 “For in My jealousy and in the fire of My wrath I have spoken: ‘Surely in that day there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel, 20 so that the fish of the sea, the birds of the heavens, the beasts of the field, all creeping things that creep on the earth, and all men who are on the face of the earth shall shake at My presence. The mountains shall be thrown down, the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground.’”
Zechariah 14:3 Then the LORD will go forth and fight against those nations, like the day of His fighting in the day of battle. [= Joshua’s Long Day, Joshua 10:12-14: “…for the LORD fought for Israel.”] And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which faces Jerusalem on the east. And the Mount of Olives shall be split in half, from east to west, making a very large valley; half of the mountain shall move toward the north, and half of it toward the south. 5 Then you shall flee through [? or to?] My mountain valley, for the valley of the mountains shall reach to Azal. Yes, you shall flee as you fled from the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Thus the LORD my God will come, and all the saints with You. … 10 All the land shall be transformed to be like the Arabah from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem.
Revelation 16:18 And there were noises and thunderings and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such a mighty and great earthquake as had not occurred since men were on the earth.
This earthquake will be the greatest of the three “great earthquakes” foretold in Revelation 6:12, 11:13, and 16:18. Just as there likewise were three great earthquakes during the era of the Exodus; which era was a type and a shadowing of End Time events. See:
    16. The Three Earthquakes of Revelation
Shows why the earthquakes of Revelation 6:12, 11:13, and 16:18 are indeed three separate quakes, and not, as some claim, all the same one. https://www.worthychristianforums.com/blogs/entry/1089-the-three-earthquakes-of-revelation/

    Topic 4: Brother Against Brother
Ezekiel 38:21 “I will call for a sword against Gog throughout all My mountains,” says the Lord GOD. “Every man’s sword will be against his brother.”
Zechariah 14:13 And it shall come to pass in that day that a great panic from the LORD shall be among them. Everyone shall seize the hand of his neighbor, and raise his hand against the hand of his neighbor.

    End Time Prophecy
    Ezekiel 38 - 39 Study Notes, Part 1
There is much speculation and false teaching about the End Times prophecy of Ezekiel 38-39. This series of articles will show where the “Gog-Magog War” fits into the overall scheme of End Time events.
For decades, many have taught that the Gog-Magog War will be the first major conflict of the End Times; whereas actually, multiple Bible prophecies reveal that it will be the last, concluding battle before the Millennium. Of these multiple parallel prophecies, the most significant ones are found in Zechariah 14 and Revelation 16 and 19. This series of articles will set together the relevant parallel passages out of these prophecies (and some others), topic by topic, to show the agreement between them.
    Topic 1: Horses and Birds
Ezekiel 38:4 “I will turn you around, put hooks into your jaws, and lead you out, with all your army, horses, and horsemen, all splendidly clothed, a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords. … 15 Then you will come from your place out of the far north, you and many peoples with you, all of them riding on horses, a great company and a mighty army.” … Ezekiel 39:17 “And as for you, son of man, thus says the Lord GOD, ‘Speak to every sort of bird and to every beast of the field: “Assemble yourselves and come; gather together from all sides to My sacrificial meal which I am sacrificing for you, a great sacrificial meal on the mountains of Israel, that you may eat flesh and drink blood. … 20 You shall be filled at My table with horse and rider, with mighty man and with every man of war,” says the Lord GOD.
Revelation 19:17 Then I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in the midst of heaven, “Come and gather together for the great supper of God, 18 that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, both small and great.”
Zechariah 12:4 “In that day,” declares the LORD, “I will strike every horse with confusion, and its rider with madness; I will open My eyes on the house of Judah, and will strike every horse of the peoples with blindness.” … 14:15 …[there will be a] plague on the horse and the mule…
A common false teaching about these “horses and horsemen,” with their “bucklers [small shields] and [large] shields,” is that they are only representative of modern military equipment and warriors. Nothing could be further from the truth. Ezekiel 38-39 is a prose prophetic narrative from God through His prophet. It is not a vision, neither poetry, wherein prophecies are clothed in symbolic meaning. Rather, here horses mean horses, and birds mean birds, literally. This is made absolutely clear because birds don’t ‘eat the flesh and drink the blood’ of military vehicles.
Armies of our time have neither enough horses nor trained riders to outfit “all of them riding on horses.” 38:15 Nor would they fight with swords and shields and bows and arrows. Nor is modern Israel “a land of unwalled villages.” 38:11 So this prophecy reveals to us that it about a post-apocalyptic era in the future, one wherein modern technology has been destroyed, and so people have reverted to a more primitive, pastoral lifestyle.
So when will that be? As Revelation 16 and 19 make clear, the Gog-Magog War will be at the time of the final Battle of Armageddon, during the fulfillment of the 6th and 7th Bowls of Revelation 16. Rev. 16:12ff. Which tells us that apocalyptic devastation upon Earth shall have taken place during Revelation’s prior 7 Seals and 7 Trumpets. That devastation will be the result of both natural-world catastrophes and ruthless warfare, in particular the 6th Trumpet war that will “kill a third of mankind.” Rev. 9:15 These will result in the demise of our modern technological era.

    Ezekiel 38 - 39 Study Notes, Part 2
    Topic 2: The Nations
Ezekiel 38:2 “Son of man, set your face against Gog of the land of the Magog, the
נשיא/nasiy'/exalted one of Rosh, Meshech and Tubal… 5 Persia, Ethiopia [Heb. Cush], and Libya [Put/Phut] with them… 6 Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah of the north quarters…”
The alternate reading for Ezekiel 38:2 – “the chief prince/nasiy' of Meshech,” as in the KJV – instead of “the nasiy' of Rosh,” violates the Hebrew grammar.
Magog, Meshech, and Gomer were all sons of Japheth, who was one of the three sons of Noah – “Shem, Ham, and Japheth.” Togarmah was a son of Gomer. Gen. 10:1-3
After the fall of the Tower of Babel and God’s subsequent dispersion of the nations, the descendants of Japheth went northward from Babylonia, and thence spread from Europe to eastward of Russia’s Ural Mountains. Rosh is probably correctly identified with the Rus, the progenitors of the Russians. Jasher 10:14 records that Rushah was a son of Japheth’s son Tiras.
Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya are more or less the same nations as today. Although Cush could perhaps more generally refer to Black Africa; see below.
    * * *
Ezekiel 38:13 “Sheba, Dedan, the merchants of Tarshish, and all their young lions will say to you, ‘Have you come to take plunder? Have you gathered your army to take booty, to carry away silver and gold, to take away livestock and goods, to take great plunder?’ ”
Genesis 10:6 The sons of Ham: Cush, Mitzraim, Phut/Put, and Canaan. 7 The sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabtechah; and the sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan.
Elsewhere in the OT, Cush is mostly translated as “Ethiopia.” It specifically referred to the general area of modern Sudan and Ethiopia, and more generally to Black Africa/Africans. The sons of Ham [Heb. Cham, which means “hot”] moved southward from Babylonia into the hotter lands, and particularly into Africa. Mitzraim became the nation of Egypt; Phut became Libya.
Ezekiel 27:12 “Tarshish [Britain] was your [Tyre’s] merchant because of your many luxury goods. They gave you silver, iron, tin, and lead for your goods.
The only significant source of tin in Europe and the Middle East was from Britain’s formerly famous, but now sunken, mines of Cornwall. Tin is an essential element for making bronze. Tarshish was a grandson of Japheth. Gen. 10:4
Ezekiel 38:15 The men of Dedan were your traders… They brought you ivory tusks and ebony [from Africa]… 22 The merchants of Sheba and Raamah were your merchants. They traded for your wares the choicest spices, all kinds of precious stones, and gold.”
I Kings 10:1 …the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon… 2 She came to Jerusalem with a very great retinue, with camels that bore spices, very much gold, and precious stones…
According to both Hebrew and Ethiopian history, the Queen of Sheba was impregnated by Solomon and bore Menelik I of the Ethiopians. Queen Candice of Acts 8:27 was of this line. The last such monarch was King Haile Selassie of Ethiopia, who was deposed in 1974 by a Communist takeover.
Sheba and Dedan were the sons of Raamah the son of Cush. Their historical trade and gift items – ivory tusks, ebony, spices, gold, and precious stones – were typically sourced from Africa. Yemen was once a major source of spices, but no longer is. Therefore, the now-common identification of Sheba and Dedan as being of Saudi Arabia is very unlikely.

The Tabernacle and Court: What They Represent

The Mosaic Tabernacle-and-Court (and later, Solomonʼs Temple-and-Court) is the Divine Pattern; is the Way; is the Gospel; is Man. All of the essentials of Godʼs Creation, as well as of His Plan of Salvation, are represented in the Tabernacle-and-Court, with its implements, ordinances, and sacred feast days.
    The Four Parts
The whole was made up of two primary parts: 1) the Tabernacle (Sanctuary), and 2) the Court. Each of these also consisted of two parts, making four areas in all. Man, the Gospel, the Plan of Salvation, and the Creation are likewise each divided into four corresponding parts. All manifest the same basic pattern.
    1) The Uncovered Court and the Altar of Burnt Offering
The whole tabernacle-court complex was stretched out horizontally upon the face of the earth, befitting its earthly location. However, it can equally be understood if viewed as an upright structure, with the altar of sacrifice near its lowest point. The very lowest point would be the entrance gate.
The lower part of manʼs torso is the belly; below that is the base of the spine and the sex. This is the realm of manʼs most carnal desires: food and sex. If manʼs desires for these things are not disciplined, much evil results.
The court is surrounded by a wall, which encompasses the whole temple-court complex, just as the skin encompasses the body. Man, like the Creation, is limited; unlike the Creator, who is not limited.
The lowermost part of the court is completely uncovered, naked to view and to natureʼs light and weather. That is, it is directly influenced by the forces of the natural world, unprotected but for its wall. Upper parts of manʼs body are more fully protected by the rib cage and the skull, but the belly has no bony protection over it.

In the Creation, there are four realms: three heavens and one earth. The lowest of these, earth, is the realm of the flesh, the realm most susceptible to evil. It is the realm of the greatest testing, and the realm of the greatest potential rewards. That is why God incarnated in the man Jesus, so that a man might overcome and defeat all of the greatest evils found in the Creation, and thereby be accounted worthy to “ascend far above all the heavens” in His authority. Eph. 4:10 Those of us who follow in His Way “will judge angels” (1 Cor. 6:3), beings originally of a higher nature than our human nature.
A means has been provided for man to so overcome all of the evil desires of the flesh. It is represented by the Altar of Burnt Offering, upon which flesh and other foods were offered up to God. Such sacrifices were a type, a representation of what God requires of man to receive salvation from the consequences of the selfish desires of the flesh. Everyone seeking salvation must first commit to sacrificing every carnal desire that is contrary to Godʼs Commandments.
Evil desires always derive from the lowermost nature, because by definition, the lowest is farthest away from the Highest (One). Those who are farthest away from the Lord of Light are therefore, by definition, dwelling in the greatest darkness.
John 3:19 “And this is the condemnation, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For everyone practicing evil hates the Light and does not come to the Light, lest his deeds should be exposed.”
Now, the last/lowermost of Godʼs Ten Commandments is this: “Thou shalt not covet…” Covetousness is therefore the root of all evil. The Fall of Man commenced when Eve coveted the forbidden fruit of Eden. The Fall of Lucifer commenced, not with pride, but with his coveting the authority and glory of the Most High:
Isaiah 14:13 “For you have said in your heart, ʻI will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God… 14 …I will be like the Most High.ʼ”
Even the worst of sins, beginning with murder and adultery, find their root in some form of covetousness.

    Salvation and the Passover

Salvation from the sins of our lowermost nature is found in type by the act which begins the entire Mosaic festival cycle: the Passover sacrifice. The original Passover, which commenced Godʼs final judgment of Egypt, and Israelʼs deliverance therefrom, was merely a type and shadow of the ultimate Passover sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Jesus, as Son of God, was the Divine Man “through [whom] all things became/were made.” John 1:2 That is to say, the Creation as a whole takes its form from Man. But Jesus, as Son of Man, was also the ultimate Natural Man of the flesh:
Philippians 2:8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
    – that is, He willingly offered up in sacrifice all of the desires of His flesh, providing us an example of the beginning of the Way of Salvation. Therefore,
Galatians 5:24 …those who are Christʼs crucify the flesh, with its passions and desires.
Romans 8:13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
This is the message of the Altar of Burnt Offering and its corresponding Passover festival. It is the first principle of the Gospel:
    1) In order for oneʼs body to receive salvation and a resurrection unto holiness, one must first commit to sacrifice all of the fleshly appetites which are rooted in darkness and covetousness.
Only after such a commitment is made may one progress to the next stage of the Gospel, represented by 2) The Partly-Enclosed Court and the Laver. (To be described in the next blog.)

The Tabernacle and the Court, Part 2:
The Partly-Enclosed Court and the Laver
In Part 1 of this series, it was shown that the first, lowest area of the Tabernacle-Court complex held the Altar of Burnt Offering. It symbolizes the first stage of the Gospel: the sacrifice of all of a discipleʼs fleshly appetites that are contrary to Godʼs Commandments. Only after such a commitment is made may the disciple proceed to the next level of the Way of Salvation, represented by –
    2) The Partly-Enclosed Court and the Laver
Exodus 30:17 Then the Lord said to Moses, 18 “You shall also make a Laver [Basin] of bronze…for washing. You shall put it between the Tabernacle of Meeting and the Altar [of Burnt Offering]. And you shall put water in it.”
1 Kings 6:3 The portico in front of the Temple-House was twenty cubits long across the breadth of the house and…ten cubits [wide] from the front of the House.
The portico that fronted Solomonʼs Temple-Sanctuary had no counterpart in the Mosaic Tabernacle. Such an open overhang would not have been practical in the latter structure, covered only with fabrics and skins, because such materials would have been too vulnerable to wind damage. Whereas the portico in Solomonʼs Temple was built of stone and lumber, and was buttressed by two massive pillars.
The Laver and the portico were both situated between the lower part of the Court (with its entrance and Altar) and the Sanctuary. In the body of Man, the area of the Laver and portico corresponds to the upper abdominal cavity, which is partly enclosed and protected by the lower ribs of the rib cage. Above the upper abdomen is the diaphragm, a strong, upwardly-vaulted muscle, which completely partitions the abdomen from the fully-enclosed chest cavity.
The upper abdomen contains organs that regulate the bodyʼs fluids, both the water (lymph) and the blood: kidneys, liver, pancreas, and spleen. These organs sit above, but are not partitioned from, the food-consuming intestines and the body-generating sex. Therefore, both sets of organs, upper and lower, reside in the same abdominal ʻcourt.ʼ
    The Laver
The function of the Laver was “for washing:”
30:18 “You shall also make a Laver…for washing. … 29:1 And this is what you shall do to [the priests] to hallow them… 4 Aaron and his sons you shall bring to the door of the Tabernacle of Meeting, and you shall wash them with water. 30:20 When they go into the Tabernacle of Meeting, or when they come near to the Altar to minister, they shall wash with water, lest they die. 21 …And it shall be a stature forever for them…”
Every priest of God had to be washed in water before being allowed into the Sanctuary, and before ministering in the Court at the Altar. This law was a representation of the second principle of the Gospel: water baptism. It is to immediately follow the commitment of a disciple to abandon (sacrifice) carnal ways.
The lower abdomen is concerned with matters of the flesh: food and drink and sex. The upper abdomen is concerned with water and blood. Bodily waters carry the emotions; blood carries the personʼs soul-lineage, that is, tribal descent:
Leviticus 17:11 The soul of the flesh [Heb. nephesh; Gr. psuchē] is in the blood.
Both the waters and the blood in Man are concerned with human relationships of all types. Relationships are therefore the realm and focus of the soul. In the broadest sense, this realm is “the world” – Greek kosmos: the orderly arrangement of affairs, i.e. of relationships. The problem is,
1 John 5:19 The whole kosmos/world lies in [under] the Evil One. 2:16 For all that is in the world – the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life – is not of the Father, but is of the world.
Ephesians 6:12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this kosmos/world, against the spiritual hosts of the wickedness in the heavenlies.
Our only solution to this problem is to
1 John 5:2 …love God and keep His Commandments. … 4 For all having been begotten of God overcome the world [i.e., the present order of affairs].
    The Feast of Unleavened Bread
The function of the organs of the Laver area of the body is to keep its waters and blood purified and wholesome. The kosmos/world is utterly polluted with sin and corruption. By keeping Godʼs Commandments, we can “escape the pollutions of the world.” 2 Peter 2:20
The Feast of Unleavened bread symbolizes these principles. This feast immediately follows the Passover sacrifice.
Exodus 12:19 “Seven days no leaven shall be found in your houses, since whoever eats what is leavened, that same soul shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel… 20 You shall eat nothing leavened; in all of your dwellings you shall eat unleavened bread.”
Jesus tells us what leaven signifies:
Matthew 16:5 Then Jesus said to them, “Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees.” … 12 Then they understood that He did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
Leaven = doctrine. Most doctrine has been corrupted by worldliness. Therefore, the message of the second principle of the Gospel is this: those who come to Christ must be purged/washed/purified from all of their worldly beliefs and worldly soul-ties (relationships).
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new Creation: old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
John 12:25 “The one loving* his soul will lose it, and the one hating his soul in this kosmos/world will keep it unto eternal life.” * Gr. phileō: ego-based affection.
For many people, this separation from impure worldly soul-ties is more difficult to accomplish than the sacrifice of fleshly lusts. (“Remember Lotʼs wife!”)
Summary of the Principles of the Court
Godʼs deliverance of Israel out of Egypt spiritually represented their deliverance from:
    1) bondage to all evil desires of the flesh, and
    2) worldly doctrine and worldly relationships.
Both of these are sins of the natural man. The Mosaic/Israelite Covenant, entered into at Mount Sinai, was limited to
    1) the sacrifice of repentance,
    2) external washing, and
    3) a physical Tabernacle.
Greater spiritual gifts, such as the personal indwelling of the Holy Spirit, and the internal understanding of the Word, cannot be received by the natural man. Such gifts were reserved until Christʼs Covenant with His Church. They were granted in the third stage of the Gospel, and are represented by access to the Holy Place of the Tabernacle. No commoner/natural man was ever allowed to enter into the Tabernacle.

The next two blogs will describe some of the things represented by the two-part Sanctuary.

The Tabernacle and the Court, Part 3:
    The Holy Place
The first two articles of this series showed that the Court of the Tabernacle consisted of two unseparated parts, representing the physical body and the soul, as well as the first two requirements of the Gospel:
    1) A discipleʼs commitment to sacrifice his unholy desires of the flesh, and
    2) A discipleʼs commitment to be purged/cleansed of his soulʼs worldly beliefs and relationships.
These two commitments are required by Christʼs Gospel before a disciple may receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, because
1 Corinthians 2:14 …a natural [Gr. psuchikos/soulish] man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But the spiritual man [pneumatikos] discerns all things…
    The Two-Part Tabernacle-Sanctuary
Once the natural man, made up of both body and soul, has been cleansed and prepared, entrance into the Holy Place, in which dwells the Presence of God, becomes possible. Under the Israelite Covenant, only two classes of people were allowed to enter into the Tabernacle: priests and Levites. Num. 18:1-11 Both of these groups were required to first be washed with water and sanctified in front of the Tabernacle, that is, in the area of the Laver. Lev. 8:1-10; Num. 8:5-11 For an expanded explanation of these things, see Careers in the Kingdom: Ecclesiastical Jobs.
The Holy Tabernacle was divided by a veil into into two parts: 1) the Holy Place, and 2) the Most Holy Place. In the body of Man, the former corresponds to the chest, which sits above the abdomen; and the latter to the head, above the chest.
    The Holy Place
Once a disciple is allowed into the Presence of God, he is enveloped within Holiness, formerly manifested in part by “the cloud [of]…the Glory of the LORD.” Ex. 40:34, 35 We first find an example of this at Mount Sinai:
Exodus 24:16 Now the Glory of the LORD rested upon Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered/enclothed it six days. And on the seventh day… 18 Moses went into the midst of the cloud…
Psalm 97:2 Clouds and darkness surround [the LORD]…
Now, there were three implements that God commanded to be made and set up in the Holy Place: a Lampstand/Menorah of seven oil lamps, a Table for holding twelve loaves of showbread, and an Altar of Incense to be placed between them.
The priests burned incense on the Altar of Incense morning and evening, creating clouds of smoke, being a representation of holiness. Ex. 30:1, 7-8; Luke 1:8-11 In heaven, the heavenly Sanctuary accepts “sacrifices of praise to God” (Heb. 13:15) and intercessory prayers upon its own Altar of Incense in the very Presence of God:
Revelation 8:1 …in heaven… 3 …another angel…was given much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all the saints upon the Golden Altar which was before the throne. 4 And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, ascended to God from the angelʼs hand.
    The Lampstand
The Lampstand of seven oil lamps was set up “on the south side of the Tabernacle.” Ex. 40:24 The Sanctuary in heaven has the same:
Revelation 4:5 Seven lamps of fire [are] burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.
Another description is provided in Zechariah:
Zechariah 4:2 …I saw, and behold! a menorah/lampstand all of gold, and a bowl on top of it, and its seven lamps upon it; with seven and seven pipes to the lamps which are on top of it. … 10 These seven [lamps] are the eyes of the LORD: they go out in all the earth.
Revelation 5 (also Zechariah 3:8-9) identify these seven eyes as belonging to the Messiah:
Revelation 5:6 …[the] Lamb…having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the Seven Spirits of God having been sent out into all the earth.
The Holy Place of the Tabernacle (Heb. mishkawn: residence) serves as the court of the Holy Oneʼs residence. Because His Holy Presence reigns throughout both parts of His residence, the whole is also called the Sanctuary (Heb. miqdawsh, qodesh; Gr. naos). The forepart – the Holy Place – corresponds to the Second Heaven. That is the Court of the Heavenly Sanctuary, wherein the Most High on occasion lowers Himself to appear on a throne. From the Heavenly Throne He passes judgment upon the angels of the lower two heavens and men who dwell on the earth. Such a judgment in the Latter Days is the topic of Revelation 4-5ff. and Daniel 7:9ff.
All of these lower three realms come under the authority of Godʼs Spirit (Heb. Ruach; Gr. Pneuma), because all spirits derive their origin from “the Word [that] was God.” John 1:1 Ever since the Incarnation, when “the Word became flesh” (John 1:14), the Spirit of God operates through Jesus Christ:
John 3:34 “…God does not give the Spirit by measure unto Him. … 35 The Father…has given all things into His hand.”
2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord [Jesus] is the Spirit… (See also Romans 8:9-10.)
Both ruach and pneuma have dual meanings, depending on the context: spirit or wind. In its lower nature, wind, its most significant use is in the chest cavity, the place of the lungs and the heart. Lung-related words such as pneumonic and pneumonia reflect this. This lower-level ruach/pneuma, via the lungs and the heart, vitalizes manʼs blood, which blood then enlivens the cells of the physical body. But remember, “the soul/nephesh/psuchē is in the blood” – thus the purity of the ruach is related to the purity of the soul in the blood.
The higher nature of the ruach operates through the heart, which not only pumps blood but charges it. Numerous Scriptures speak of the close relationship between the human spirit and heart. Some examples:
Deuteronomy 2:30 …the LORD thy God hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate… Psalm 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart… Proverbs 15:13 …by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken. Ezekiel 18:31 …make you a new heart and a new spirit… Romans 2:29 …circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit…
The heart is the abode of the Adamic spirit, from which it reigns as king. Nowadays the human spirit is more commonly known as the ego, each personʼs self-identity. In Greek, egō is the first person, emphatic “I.”
Each personʼs spirit is a gift of God, with preordained (ʻpre-downloadedʼ) abilities and affections. Each spirit has been given the choice of whether or not to submit its kingly sovereignty to the Great Spirit. Such a submission is portrayed here:
Revelation 4:10 …the 24 elders shall fall down before Him who sits on the [Heavenly] Throne…and cast their crowns before the Throne…
For each spirit that chooses not to submit to the King of Heaven, there will eventually come upon it one of two consequences:
    1) the spirit will be seduced to submit to Satanʼs kingdom, which ultimately results in it being “cast into the lake of fire” (Rev. 20:10, 14-15), or
    2) the spirit will jealously cling to its own dominion, and eventually will be “cast out [alone] into the outer darkness.” Matt. 8:12; 22:13; 25:30; Jude 12-13
    The Table of Showbread
In the Sanctuary, the Table of Showbread was placed “on the north side of the Tabernacle.” Ex. 40:22 The Hebrew words translated as “showbread” are lechem panym: lit. “the bread of the Face/Presence [of God].” Under the Israelite Covenant, only the priests were allowed to eat the showbread. Lev. 24:9; Luke 6:4
Jesus, the Word and human Face/Presence of God, said,
John 6:35 “I am the Bread of Life. … 33 For the Bread of God is He who comes down out of heaven and gives life to the world.”
The most external and material representation in the world of the Word of God is the Holy Scriptures. “If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever…” 6:51 That is, all who willingly consume and receive nourishment from Christʼs Word/Teachings/Scriptures are enlivened by “the words of eternal life.” 6:68 A continual consumption of the Word/Scriptures is therefore required of a disciple if he should wish to remain encompassed within the Holiness of God.
The Feast of Firstfruits, a.k.a. the Feast of Weeks, a.k.a. Pentecost
Exodus 24:4 And Moses wrote all the words of the LORD. … 7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it in the hearing of all the people. And they said, “All that the LORD has said we will do and we will hear. 8 And Moses took the blood, sprinkled it upon the people, and said, “Behold, the blood of the covenant which the LORD has made with you according to all these words.”
Acts 2:1 When the day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound out of heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind*… 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit… 1:7 And [Jesus] said to them… 8 “…when the Holy Spirit has come upon you…you shall be witnesses to Me [that is, esp. to His words]…unto the ends of the earth. *Gr. pnoēs, from the same root as pneuma.
Leviticus 23:16 “Count fifty [cf. Gr. pentēkostē: fiftieth] days to the day after the seventh Sabbath; then you shall bring a new grain offering to the LORD. 17 …two wave loaves…of fine flour; they shall be baked with leaven: the firstfruits to the LORD.
All of these events took/take place on the Feast of Firstfruits, that is, Pentecost. They mark new covenants: the former with Israel, the latter with the Church.
In Part 2 of this series, we saw that leaven represents doctrine. Disciples are required to first purge themselves of all their old doctrine (represented by the Feast of Unleavened Bread) before their entry into the Holy Place of Godʼs Presence, where they are to ingest the new Bread of Life, with the new leaven of the Word of God through Christ. This is the message represented by the Feast of Firstfruits.
    Summation
Three additional principles of the Gospel – all summed up in one by the Feast of Firstfruits – are represented within the Holy Place of the Tabernacle:
    1) Represented by the Lampstand: a disciple is to receive the Holy Spirit anointing.
    2) Represented by the Table of Showbread: a disciple is to consume knowledge and understanding of Christʼs new doctrine.
    3) Represented by the Altar of Incense: a disciple is to become engaged in offering sacrifices of praise and intercessory prayer.
These three disciplines are needed by a disciple to prepare him for entry into the Most Holy Place, which is the topic of the next blog.

The Tabernacle and Court, Part 4:
    The Most Holy Place

Under the Mosaic Law of the Israelite Covenant, only the High Priest was allowed to enter into the Most Holy Place of the Tabernacle, and only on one day each year. Lev. 16:2, 34; Heb. 9:7 On that day, the Day of Atonement, he was required to enter the Most Holy Place twice:
Leviticus 16:17 …that he may make atonement [1] for himself, and for his household, and [2] for all the assembly of Israel.
Under Christʼs Law of the Church Covenant,
Hebrews 8:1 We have such a High Priest… 2 a Minister of the Holy Places and of the true [i.e., Heavenly] Tabernacle which the Lord erected, and not man. … 9:12 …[who] entered [1] once into the Holy Places, having obtained (for) Himself* eternal redemption. … 24 For Christ has not entered into holy places made with hands, [which are] antitupa/antitypes/representations of the true, but into heaven itself, [2] now to appear in the Presence of God for us. … 28 To those who eagerly wait for Him, He will appear out [of heavenʼs Sanctuary] a second time without sin to [the purpose of] salvation. *Greek middle/reflexive voice.
The true meaning of this passage out of Hebrews is generally missed. The two-fold atonement required of Aaronic High Priests in the earthly Tabernacle was meant to be an accurate representation of the two-fold atonement ultimately required of the heavenly High Priest, Jesus Christ.
Although Jesus lived a sinless life, God “made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” 2 Cor. 5:21; Is. 53:4-6 Therefore, He was unclean upon His Resurrection from the dead, and needed to immediately ascend to the Most Holy Place in heaven to become purified. This is why He said to Mary Magdalene,
John 20:17 “Touch me not, for I have not yet ascended to my Father…”
In contrast, the same day in the evening, after His return from “having obtained (for) Himself eternal redemption” (Heb. 9:12, above), he told His disciples, “Handle Me and see…” Luke 24:39 By that time, atonement had been made “for Himself and for His household.” Lev. 16:17, above.
Aaronʼs household consisted of all Aaronic priests and their families. Christʼs household consists of all Melchizedek/Apostolic priests and their families, because He was
Hebrews 5:10 called by God as High Priest “according to the Order of Melchizedek…” 3:6 [and] Christ [was faithful] as Son [of God] over his own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.
    The Head(s)
When the Tabernacle is viewed as an archetypal representation of man, the part that the Most Holy Place represents is the head. In both Hebrew and Greek, the term head is used both literally – the physical part of the body itself – and also and more often figuratively. Meanings for the latter include terms such as leader, chief authority, origin/beginning, foremost, and highest. Paul used this metaphor often:
1 Corinthians 11:3 …know that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of a woman is the man, and the head of Christ is God.
Ephesians 5:23 For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the Church; and He is Savior of the body. … 30 For we are members of His body, of His flesh, and of His bones.
Colossians 2:9 For in Him [Christ] dwells all of the fullness of the Theotētos/Divinity/Godhead bodily. 10 And in him your are made full, who is the head of all rule and authority.
This whole concept of levels of headship (hierarchical authority) has been under assault throughout our era of the Seventh/last of Revelation 2-3ʼs churches, the Church of Laodicea. That name is derived from laos/people + dikē/right/justice. All authority/headship in the Church, be it of God, Christ, anointed elders, or fathers of families, is being challenged and rebelled against under the popular cry of “human rights.” This is the spirit of apostasia/apostasy foretold in 2 Thessalonians 2:2-4 that is to precede the coming of both “the Day of Christ” and of the Son of Perdition.
    The Realm of the Light
1 John 1:5 …God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all.
Matthew 6:22 The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore thine eye is single, thy whole body will be luminous/full of light.
Revelation 1:16 …His [Christʼs] countenance was like the sun shining in its strength.
Luke 3:16 He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and fire…
Acts 2:3 Then there appeared to them [His disciples gathered on Pentecost] divided tongues as of fire, and one sat upon each one of them.
Exodus 24:2 The sight of the Glory of the LORD was like a consuming fire on the top of the mountain [Sinai].
Exodus 34:29 …the skin of [Mosesʼ] face shone while he talked with Him.
The highest heaven is the realm of the Radiant Light of Divinity, which radiance is (normally) clothed and concealed, progressively, downward through the lower two heavens and then earth. The highest heaven corresponds to the Most Holy Place of the Sanctuary, and to the head of the Divine Man.
The Divine Light was first manifested by and through the Divine Man, the Word of God:
John 1:4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. … 9 …the true light which gives light to every man…
Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God…breathed into his [Adamʼs] nostrils a neshamah/breath of life…
Thus the Divine Breath/Neshamah of Life is light itself.
Like spirit, breath has a higher and a lower nature, manifesting respectively as radiance and as fire.
    The Ark
The only article contained within the Most Holy Place was the Ark of the Covenant, but it was multi-faceted in design and symbolism. It consisted of a gold-covered box that was 2½ cubits broad, and 1½ cubits wide and high: about 45" x 27" x 27." It was covered by a solid gold plate of the same breadth and width, traditionally called the Mercy Seat, although the Hebrew term kapporeth means lid/cover, without suggestion of it being a seat. Formed as one piece with the kapporeth were two solid gold cherubim arising from opposite ends of the cover, which faced each other and spread their wings toward each other, making a canopy over the Ark. Ex. 25:10-20
Exodus 25:21 “…and in the Ark you shall put the Testimony [the two stone tablets having the Ten Commandments] that I will give you. 22 And there I will meet with you, and I will speak with you from above the cover/Mercy Seat, from between the two cherubim…about all that I will command/enjoin you…”
Note here the two witnesses of testimony, divided above/below by the partition of the Arkʼs cover – the spiritual witness above, and the material witness below – representing the fact that the Word of God will always have witnesses both heavenly and earthly. Therefore in the End Times, even after the Lord has taken up the elect of His Church to heaven, there will still be saints remaining upon earth to bear witness, ones “keeping the commandments of God, and having the testimony of Jesus Christ.” Rev. 12:17
The Ark and the cherubim are a material representation of the Divine Chariot seen by Ezekiel. Ezek. 1, 10; 1 Chron. 28:18 The cover of the Ark represents the “firmament” thereof:
Ezekiel 1:25 A voice came from above the firmament… 26 And above the firmament…was the likeness of a throne…on…the throne was a likeness with the appearance of a Man high above it. … 28 … This was the appearance of the likeness of the Glory of the LORD.
    The Seven Holy Convocation/Assembly Days
Leviticus 23 itemizes seven “moedim/appointed times of the LORD which you shall proclaim to be holy miqrawim/convocations…” Lev. 23:2, 37 The first three of them, appointed to take place in the Spring, were covered in Parts 1-3 of these articles:
    1) First month, 15th day: the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, and celebration of the Passover sacrifice. Symbolism: deliverance from physical bondage (the lusts of the flesh), and from physical death (via the resurrection of the dead).
    2) First month, 21st day: the seventh/last day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Symbolism: water baptism. Purification of the soul from worldly doctrine and relationships, so that it may become able to receive heavenly doctrine and relationships.
    3) Early third month, day variable: the Feast of Firstfruits/Pentecost. Symbolism: baptism of the Holy Spirit. Christʼs Spirit provides the way for our Adamic spirits to once again enter into the Presence of God, which ability had been lost at the Fall of Adam.
The four remaining appointed holy convocations take place in the Autumn. They all relate to the establishment of the Kingdom of God/Kingdom of Heaven upon earth:
Matthew 6:10 “Thy Kingdom come! Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
These latter sacred assembly days all relate to the Most Holy Place in the Tabernacle. They are, in order,
    4) Seventh month, 1st day: the Feast of Blowing of Trumpets.
    5) Seventh month, 10th day: the Day of Atonement.
    6) Seventh month, 15th day: the first day of the Feast of Tabernacles.
    7) Seventh month, 22nd day: the Eighth Day.
These will be covered in the last two articles of this series.

    The Most Holy Place:
    The Feast of Trumpets/Rosh Hashanah
Leviticus 23:24 “…In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have for yourselves a memorial special sabbath of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation.
I Kings 1:39 Then Zadok the priest took a horn of oil from the Tabernacle and anointed Solomon. And they blew with the shofar, and all the people said, “Lives King Solomon!”
There are many Hebraic traditions about the Feast of Trumpets. The Bible says little about it, just the two clues above from Leviticus: 1) it serves as a special memorial day, and 2) it is to be celebrated by blowing trumpets (shofars, according to Psalm 81:3 and 47:5-9). Long-standing tradition calls this day Rosh Hashanah, “The Head of the Year.” On Tishri 1 (the first day of the seventh month of the religious calendar), it is believed that God created the world.
Kings of the line of David commenced their reigns, and numbered their regnal years, from Nisan 1, the first day of the first month. In ancient times, there was a custom whereby kings, on their regnal day and subsequent memorials thereof, would sit upon their thrones to grant favors and pardons, and hear the cases and pleas of commoners. Cf. Jasher 14:1-4 On Solomonʼs accession day, he pardoned his brother Adonijah, who had attempted to usurp the kingdom. It is likely that he heard the case of the two harlots on a later such day. 1 Kings 1:51-53; 3:16ff.
A long-standing Hebraic tradition is that the King of Heaven sits upon his heavenly throne in a similar way each Rosh Hashanah: thus the meaning of memorial in Leviticus 23:24. Cf. Job 1:6 As Creator, God is king of heaven and earth, and thus judge and benefactor over all. By extension, the tradition says that on a future Rosh Hashanah, the Last Trumpet will be blown to announce the resurrection of the dead, the gathering of Israel/the faithful, and the Great Judgment which shall commence the Messianic Age. Messianic Jews and others presume that Paul had this principal in mind when writing 1 Corinthians 15:51-53 and 1 Thessalonians 4:16. See The Last Shofar: The Latter Horn of Redemption.
The first mention in the Bible of a blowing shofar is Exodus 19:19, when one sounded to announce the descent of God to Mount Sinai. That was “the First Trumpet.” The next day, Pentecost, Israel entered into their blood covenant with God, and selected Israelites ascended to different levels upon the mountain. Only after a full seven days was Moses called to enter fully into the Presence of the Glory of the LORD. Such time-delays for events after the blowing/announcement of the First Shofar suggest similar time-delays for events after the blowing/announcement of the Last Shofar of 1 Corinthians 15.
In the Tabernacle, Rosh Hashanah is represented by the veil that separates the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place, which serves as an entrance/beginning to the latter. In the body of man, this veil represents both the blood-brain barrier and the entrance of the spinal cord into the brain.

    The Day of Atonement/Yom Kippur
In Jewish tradition, Rosh Hashanah commences the Ten Days of Awe, which conclude on Tishri 10, the Day of Atonement. The tradition says Godʼs judgment begins on Rosh Hashanah, when the heavenly record books of menʼs deeds are opened before the court of heaven.
Daniel 7 describes the scene of the Great Judgment of God which ends the present world age:
Daniel 7:9 I was beholding until thrones were put down, and the Ancient of Days was seated… 10 …A thousand thousands ministered to Him, and a myriad of myriads stood before Him. The [court of]
judgment sat, and the books were thrown open.
On the Day of Atonement, Godʼs judgment is concluded: the truly repentant receive atonement/expiation, and the rebellious are condemned. Numerous New Testament verses testify that the atonement for sins is accomplished by “the blood of Christ.” Heb. 9:14; 1 Pet. 1:19; etc.
Although the Passover sacrifice of Christʼs blood was a single act, it had a twofold nature, because Jesus is both Son of God and Son of man/Adam. As Son of God, His blood was brought into the heavenly Sanctuary the first time, as outlined at the beginning of Part 4. That day was a Tishri 10 in the new calendrical cycle that commenced with His birth, made up of sacred 360-day years.
As Son of man, His blood is brought “a second time” (Heb. 9:28) into the heavenly Sanctuary after the coming Rosh Hashanah wherein the Last Shofar is blown, which commences the End of the Age judgment. The same court scene described in Daniel 7 was also foreseen by John in Revelation 4-5, where he saw
Revelation 5:6 …in the midst of the throne…a lamb as though having been slain. 7 And He came and took the scroll out of the right hand of him who sat on the throne.
This scroll will contain the written and thus irrevocable judgment of God respecting “the sins of many [people].” Heb. 9:28 By Divine Law, this judgment will take place on another Tishri 10, although in what calendar I will not speculate.
Under Mosaic Law, on Yom Kippur the high priest was to bring the sacrificial blood into the Most Holy Place and sprinkle it “upon the face of the cover/Mercy Seat” [Heb. על־פני הכפרת]. Lev. 16:14 The Most Holy Place corresponds to the head, and the Ark with all of its parts represents the brain: in its highest sense, “the mind of the Lord.” 1 Cor. 2:16 The cover in the center of all of those parts represents the mid-brain, the divider between its nature-oriented functions below, and its mentally-oriented functions above. The bodyʼs two master endocrine glands, the singular pineal and the dual-lobed pituitary, sit above and below, respectively.
The pinealʼs function is heavily influenced by the bodyʼs, and particularly by the two eyesʼ, exposure to light, or the absence thereof. The pineal itself has the morphology of an eye, with a fluid-filled interior and an exterior having retinal (photo-receptor) cells. These retinal cells are significant, because the pineal sits in the middle of the head, and therefore has no exposure at all to the worldʼs light.
The interior of the pineal gland has within it piezo-electric, piezo-chromatic, and piezo-luminescent crystals. Mystics ancient and modern have believed the pineal to be the organ that bridges between the mind of man and the mind of God, and between the worldʼs light and heavenʼs light; and is the “eye single” spoken of by Jesus:
Matthew 6:22 “The lamp of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be phōteinos/lustrous/full of light. 23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!”
With regard to the implications of this verse, more will said in the next article.
In the previous section, we saw the parallel and complementary relationship of earthly and heavenly memorial days – Nisan 1 and Tishri 1 – for earthly and heavenly kings, respectively. The same complementary relationship exists respecting Nisan 10 and Tishri 10. According to Mosaic Law, on Nisan 10, unblemished Passover lambs were to be chosen by Israelite households, to be kept for the Passover sacrifice at the evening of Nisan 14. Ex. 12:3-6 Jesus, the ultimate Passover lamb, was therefore chosen and honored at the home of Lazarus, Martha, and Mary in the evening/beginning of Nisan 10, and then the next day, still Nisan 10, by the “great multitude” in and on the way to Jerusalem. John 12 Therefore, on Nisan 10, faithful believers chose God Incarnate as their Savior. On Tishri 10, God, by means of God Incarnate, will choose faithful believers to be saved.
Next: the Feast of Tabernacles/Ingathering, and the Eighth-Day Solemn Assembly.

    The Most Holy Place:
The Eighth-Day Solemn Assembly, Shemini Atzereth
Leviticus 23:34 …“The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the Feast of Tabernacles for seven days to the LORD. … 36 …On the eighth day you shall have a holy miqraw/convocation… It is an atzereth/solemn assembly… 39 …a shabbathōn/special sabbath.
This seventh and final sacred assembly day concludes the religious festival cycle. This seventh and final sacred assembly day concludes the religious festival cycle. The Law of Moses provides no information about it other than the phrase “the eighth day.”
Early Church leaders such as Barnabus, Irenaeus, and Hippolytus, undoubtedly influenced by an earlier Hebraic tradition, taught that this world will exist for 7000 years. The last 1000 years – “the Millennium” of Revelation 20 – will constitute this worldʼs sabbath-rest: the Messianic Kingdom Age of peace. Cf. Heb. 4:4-9; 2 Pet. 3:8; Ps. 90:4.
At the end of the Millennium, John saw
Revelation 20:11 …a great white throne and the One sitting on it, from whose countenance the earth and the heaven fled away. … 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth… 2 and the holy city, the New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God…
In a seven-day weekly cycle, the eighth day is also the first day of a new week. Such is the case here. Just as “God created the heavens and the earth…the first day” (Gen. 1:1, 5), so on the coming ʻsecond first dayʼ will He create
2 Peter 3:13 …new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. Isaiah 65:17 …And the former [heavens and earth] shall not be remembered [or, commemorated], and not ascend upon/over the heart.
When God originally “laid the foundations of the earth…the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy.” Job 38:4, 7 When God “create…a new earth… Jerusalem [shall be] a rejoicing, and her people a joy.” Is. 65:17-18 That latter celebration is represented by the Feast of the Eighth Day.
    The Veiled and Unveiled Face
In the body of man, the seventh and final sacred assembly day is represented by the brainʼs unveiled heavenly vision itself. By that eighth-millennium Day, the righteous among men will have become so purified and sanctified that for the very first time recorded in Scripture, the following is said of them –
Revelation 22:4 They shall gaze upon His [Godʼs/the Fatherʼs] Face…
    – whereas formerly, menʼs visions of God have been limited to
Ezekiel 1:28 …the appearance of the likeness of the Glory of the LORD. Numbers 12:8 …the form/similitude of the LORD. Exodus 33:20 [Because] He said, “You shall not be able to see My Face; for no man [Heb. adam: earthly man] shall see Me and live.”
However, because of the sanctified state of the inhabitants of the New Jerusalem, all such representations and similitudes, even including the Tabernacle and Court, will no longer be required; therefore
Revelation 21:22 …[there will be] no naos/sanctuary in it [the New Jerusalem], for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its sanctuary.
Thus there is no need for any Scriptural information about the Eighth Day Feast other than its date.
    Conclusion
This series of articles was able to provide merely a glimpse of the unitary nature of Creation in all of its levels and forms; all of which developed “in the beginning” out of the One Divine Word/One Divine Man.
In each of these levels/worlds – light, spirit, soul, and flesh – the Divine Man has His Presence, taking form as Man according to the type of garment of that world. As also do the angelic sons of God in the garments of their worlds. And as will do the redeemed and made-righteous Adamic sons of God, after they have completed their discipleship in the Way of Salvation.
God commanded that Way to be represented in type by the Tabernacle and Court, and by His appointed Holy Days associated with them.
THE STRIKE THROUGHS ARE A GLITCH OF THIS SYSTEM, WHICH I AM UNABLE TO REMOVE.

    The Most Holy Place:
The Feast of Tabernacles, a.k.a. Feast of Ingathering
Leviticus 23:34 …“The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the Feast of Tabernacles for seven days to the LORD. 35 On the first day there shall be a holy convocation. Exodus 23:16 … the Feast of Ingathering in the going out/forth of the year, when you have gathered in the produce of your labors from the field. Deuteronomy 16:13 …from your threshing floor and from your winepress.”
The seven-day Feast of Tabernacles of Tishri 15-21 parallels and complements the seven-day Feast of Unleavened Bread of Nisan 15-21. The principal word that best describes both celebrations is deliverance. The Spring feast represents Godʼs deliverance of His people from physical bondage and physical (the first) death. The Autumn feast represents Christʼs deliverance of His people from soul bondage and soul (the second) death:
Revelation 20:6 Blessed and holy is the one having part in the prōtos/foremost/best resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years. 7 Now when the thousand years are expired… 11 …I saw a great white throne and the One sitting on it… 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before the throne, and books were opened. … And the dead were judged… 15 And if anyone was not found having been written in the Book of Life, he was cast into the lake of fire. 14 …This is the second death.
    Soul-Garments, Death, and Resurrection
When the physical body dies, its soul becomes separated from its dwelling. The carnal soul soon descends to its kind in Hades/Hell. The righteous soul ascends to its kind in heaven, where it is “given a white robe” (Rev. 6:11) derived from that soulʼs “righteous acts” while on earth:
Revelation 3:5 “The one overcoming shall be clothed in white garments… 18 I counsel you to buy from Me…white garments, that you may be clothed, and the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed…” 19:8 …the fine linen [garment] is the righteous acts of the saints. 1 Peter 5:5 …be clothed with humility…
2 Corinthians 5:1 For we know that if the earthly house [= physical body] of our tabernacle [= soul] is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 For in this* [soul-tabernacle] we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven, 3 if indeed having been clothed we shall not be found naked… 4 …but…that mortality may be swallowed up by life. * “This”/toutō is neuter, agreeing with verse 1ʼs tabernacle, not house.
Up until the End of the Age, the garments of the souls of the dead are comprised solely of either a heavenly or a hellish substance. These souls are therefore restricted to their respective heavenly and hellish realms. At the resurrection of the dead, however, the material (this earthly realmʼs) body will be raised and be restored to the souls of the dead, just as Jesusʼ body was to Him:
Luke 24:39 [After His resurrection, Jesus appeared to His disciples and said,] “Handle Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have.”
Job 19:25 …I know that my Redeemer lives, and afterward He shall arise above the dust; 26 and after my skin they have stricken off of this body, yet from my flesh I shall behold God.
1 John 3:2 …we know that when He shines forth/is manifested, we shall be like Him…
When the great resurrection of the dead takes place, they will become physically re-embodied souls of all types of people:
Daniel 12:2 “Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall be caused to awaken, some to everlasting life, and some to shame, to everlasting contempt.” (For the latter, see Isaiah 66:24 and Micah 7:8-10.)
John 5:28 “…an hour comes in which all the ones in the graves will hear His [the Sonʼs] voice 29 and come forth: the ones having done good things to the resurrection of life, and the ones having done evil things to the resurrection of condemnation.”
Because many different kinds of souls will be restored to their bodies, they will appear in all kinds of bodily garments, for each soulʼs bodily form will henceforward conform to its thoughts and deeds. Ones having had a sexually lustful nature will therefore appear exposed and naked, and be shamed. Similarly, others will appear bestial in various ways; and so on.
1 Corinthians 15:35 But some will say, “How are the dead raised up? And with what body do they come?” … 38 God gives it a body as He pleases, and to each seed its own body.
Daniel 12:3 “But the ones having been intelligent/prudent [המשכלים] shall shine like the brightness of the firmament, and the ones having turned many to righteousness shall shine like the stars, forever and ever.”

The Tabernacles name for this seven-day feast represents the bodily garments provided to the souls at the time of the resurrection of the dead – both for the dead and for “we [of Christ] who are alive, the ones remaining to the Coming/Presence of the Lord…” 1 Thes. 4:15
1 Corinthians 15:51 …We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed. 52 …at the Last Trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we [the living] shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal put on immortality.
    The Ingathering
The other name for this feast, the Ingathering, in its spiritual sense represents the gathering together of souls to assemblies of their respective kinds:
Matthew 13:30 “…at the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers [“who are the angels,” :39], ʽFirst gather together the tares [“the sons of the Wicked One,” :38] and bind them in bundles for the intent/time to burn them, but gather the wheat [“the sons of the Kingdom,” :38] into my barn.ʼ … 43 Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father.” Cf. Dan. 12:3, above.
Hebrews 12:22 But you [will] come unto Mount Zion and to a city of the Living God, heavenly Jerusalem… 23 to a general assembly [Gr. panēguris: whole gathering] and Church of the Firstborn having been registered in heaven…
Hebrews 12ʼs great heavenly gathering, which follows the mass resurrection of the dead upon Christʼs appearance in the clouds, will be the joyful privilege for “those [saints] who were ready…[when] the bridegroom came…” Matt. 25:10 However, such a heavenly gathering will not preclude some of these souls from the capacity to re-garment in flesh upon earth from time to time, just as Jesus is able to do. That capacity for earthly appearance will depend on some combination of each soulʼs calling and choice.
In its earthly sense, the Ingathering name for this feast represents the Latter Day gathering out of Israel from the nations, following the Sixth Sealʼs revelation of the Father and Son:
Revelation 1:7 Behold, He [Jesus] is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. Zechariah 12:10 And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplications; then they will intently look unto Me whom they pierced… Revelation 6:16 …the Face of Him who sits on the throne and…the Lamb.
Ezekiel 20:33 “As I live,” says the Lord GOD, “surely with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with fury poured out, I will rule over you[, O house of Israel. :31, :39] 34 And I will bring you out from the peoples and gather you out of the countries wherein you are scattered, with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with fury poured out. 35 And I will bring you into the wilderness of the peoples, and there I will plead My case with you face to face. 36 Like as I pleaded My case with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so will I plead with you, says the Lord GOD. 37 And I will cause you to pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant; 38 and I will purge out from among you the rebels, and those who transgress against Me…” 34:12 “As a shepherd seeks out his flock on the day that he is among his scattered sheep, so will I seek out my sheep and deliver them out of all places where they were scattered in a cloudy and dark day. 13 And I will bring them out from the peoples and gather them from the countries, and will bring them to their own land…” (See also Ezekiel 36:24-36.)
Because “every eye will see” the heavenly vision of the revelation/unveiling of the Father and Son, seemingly the only way for this to happen will be through a massive inpouring of Divine Light into “the eye single” of every soul, most likely through the pineal gland. See the “Yom Kippur” section of the previous article.
    The Revelation 20 Resurrection
After the lengthy period of Godʼs Wrath is concluded, there will be a later and smaller resurrection of the dead, for
Revelation 20:4 …the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their witness of Jesus, and because of the word of God, who had not worshiped the Beast or his image, and had not received the mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.
Likely the two Latter Day resurrections, pre-Wrath and post-Wrath, will commence on Tishri 15, but in different calendars.
Back at the time of the Exodus, the Israelites came out of Egypt on Nisan 15, and were fully delivered from the Egyptians on Nisan 21, when they passed through the partition of the Red Sea. Presumably the dead will come out of their sleep on Tishri 15, but not be fully delivered from this corrupted world until Tishri 21, when those of the pre-Wrath resurrection will pass through the partition of the clouds of heaven.
Tabernacles and Ingathering are represented by the two facing cherubim who spread their wings to meet together over the Ark, forming a canopy/tabernacle over it. In the body of man, the corresponding parts are the encompassing left and right cerebral cortices of the brain.
Next: the seventh and concluding holy convocation, the Eighth-Day Solemn Assembly.

The Firstfruits and the Harvest 2.0

    Part 1: The Heaven-Bound
Under the Mount Sinai Covenant, all firstfruits were to be given to God: not just the firstfruits of the Spring grain harvest, but also of the Autumn harvest of fruit, wine and oil. Likewise, all the firstborn/firstfruit-of-the-womb of both livestock and men were to belong to God. Firstborn sons were redeemed with a substitute offering. Ex. 34:19-20, 22, 26; Lev. 23:10, 17; Deut. 26:1-4, 10b; Neh. 10:35-39
This law applies spiritually under the Covenant of Christ. God established the pattern in Israel, and He will fulfill that pattern in Christ’s Church and in Israel.
Under the typology of the Mosaic Law, only the best of the harvest, the firstfruits, were/are to be taken up to God’s Tabernacle. In the End Times, the Tabernacle of God is “the true Tabernacle which the Lord erected…in heaven.” Heb. 8:1-2; Rev. 11:19; 15:5
    The Heaven-Bound: Israel
The Latter Day firstfruits of men’s souls out of the tribes of Israel are the 144,000 of Revelation 7 and 14:
Revelation 14:4 These were redeemed from men, a firstfruit to God and to the Lamb.
Like the 70 Israelite elders on Mount Sinai on Pentecost, and the 120 Israelite disciples of Christ in the Upper Room on Pentecost, the 144,000 Israelites will be sanctified for God’s earthly use at the time that the Presence/Parousía of Jesus descends in the clouds of heaven in power and glory. Ex. 24:1, 9-10; Acts 1:13-15; Rev. 7:1-4
The twelve tribes of Israel are a soulish assembly of people. This is because all ethnic groups are bloodlines, and “the soul of the flesh is in the blood.” Lev. 17:11
Like the 70 elders and the 120 disciples, and also like Mordecai in Esther’s day, the 144,000 will initially ‘come down from the mountain/Upper Room’ to work in God’s service on Earth; but they are later to ascend to the heavenly “Mount Zion…before the throne of God.” Rev. 14:1, 3, 5; cf. Heb. 12:22.
    The Heaven-Bound: The Church
Now, upon Mount Sinai and in the Upper Room, the elect/chosen firstfruits consisted solely of Israelites. At Christ’s coming in the clouds of heaven, however, there is another group, one of predominantly Gentile firstfruits, called “the Church of the Firstborn.” Heb. 12:23 This body, the elect/chosen firstfruits of Christ’s Church, is prophetically represented by the wedding-going virgins – the “ready” ones – of Matthew 25:10; and also by the fairest-only virgins, selected out of “all the provinces of [the] kingdom,” gathered into the king’s house in the days of Esther. Esth. 2:3ff. (Note that the 144,000 are also called “virgins.” Rev. 14:4)
The Church is a “spiritual house [assembly]” of people. 1 Pet. 2:5
Like the virgins of Esther’s day, the Church of the Firstborn will ascend to and dwell in the King’s house; that is, in heaven. Rev. 7:9-17
    The Heaven-Bound: The Manchild(ren)
Under the Torah of Israel, there were two kinds of firstfruit offerings:
    1) an offering of two large loaves of bread baked from the year’s first harvest (grain), which offering was made at the Feast of Weeks/Pentecost, and
    2) the very special “first of the firstfruits” offerings, such as the “sheaf of the firstfruits [brought] to the priest” on the first Sunday after the Passover. Lev. 23:10-11; Ex. 23:19; 34:26 That was the very day in the religious calendar on which Yeshua ascended to God after His resurrection, He thereby becoming “first out of the resurrection of the dead.” Acts 26:23
To clarify: under the pattern of the Exodus-era Torah, the first day of the first week after the Passover was the day of the “first of the firstfruits;” whereas seven full weeks later, on Pentecost, came the prototypical fulness of the firstfruits. Lev. 23:15-17
In the End Times, the spiritual fulfillment of the “first of the firstfruits” will be that of the Manchild of Revelation 12:5, who is to be “caught up to God and to His throne” before the Woman has fully escaped into the wilderness with her people. Rev. 12:6; see Part 2.

    The Three Earthquakes of Revelation
Some people believe and teach that the the Seals, Trumpets and Bowls of Revelation all take place concurrently. Others teach that only the Trumpets and Bowls are concurrent, and are part of the Seventh Seal. There are many reasons why neither of these things is possible, when all of the other scriptures, particularly the Old Testament prophecies, are taken into account. I will mention just one item here: the three earthquakes of Revelation.
As I show in the blog post The Exodus and the End Times, all the significant events of the Exodus were types and shadows of the Day of the LORD. Therefore, it is noteworthy that three different large earthquakes also took place during the Exodus era. Here are the Exodus-era types, and their Day of the LORD fulfillments:

    1) The Exodus, at Mount Sinai: Thick darkness, earthquake, God’s trumpet/shofar sounding. The LORD descended upon Mount Sinai in clouds of smoke; most people cowered away from his Presence. But those who were ready went up into his Presence. Ex. 19:16f.; 20:18
    1) 6th Seal: Thick darkness, earthquake, God’s trumpet/shofar sounding. Jesus descends in the clouds; most people are greatly afraid and hide themselves. But those who are ready go up into his Presence. Rev. 6:12-17; 1 Thes. 4:16; Matt. 24:29-30

    2) During the Exodus sojourn in the wilderness: Moses and Aaron, after having prophesied and performed similar miracles as the Two Witnesses of Relation 11, were confronted and accused by Korah and others. The LORD then validated their ministry, killing thousands of their adversaries by earthquake, fire and plague. Num. 16; Ex. 7-10
    2) 6th Trumpet, Priestly Section: The Two Witnesses prophesy, burn their enemies with fire, turn waters to blood, and smite the earth with plagues. They are accused and attacked by the Beast and others. God publicly validates their ministry by raising them from the dead; an earthquake then kills thousands. Rev. 11:3-13

    3) After the Exodus, in Canaan: Joshua – Yeshua – and the Israelites defeated the many armies gathered together against them on ‘the day the sun stood still.’ “[T]he earth trembled and shook” amidst a great storm (Jasher 89:15), and great hailstones fell from heaven. The Canaanite armies were routed and slaughtered, and their kings were captured alive and “cast into” a cave. Josh. 10
    3) 7th Bowl: “[T]hunderings and lightnings…a mighty and great earthquake…great hail from heaven.” Jesus – Yeshua – and the armies of heaven descend to destroy the armies gathered together against them. The Beast and the False Prophet are captured alive, and “cast into” the lake of fire. Rev. 16:17-21; 19:11-21

All the events of the Exodus which foreshadow events of the End Times were sequential in time. There are no scriptures that prove the events of the End Times will not likewise be sequential. On the contrary, the three examples above show that each of these End Time earthquakes will take place under completely different circumstances.
Addenda: For “those who dwell upon the earth” (Rev. 3:10; 6:10; 11:10; 13:8, 12, 14 (2); 14:6; 17:8), the Seals-Trumpets-Bowls, and likewise the three earthquakes, will occur separately and sequentially over time. But for the ones in the heavenly realms of Everywhen, the Seals-Trumpets-Bowls (and all other events of history) are eternally everywhen. This is the realm in which God dwells, and into which prophets visit during their visions of the future. Because all events – past-present-future – already exist there. (And don’t ask me to explain that!)
In this one sense only are those correct who speak of the Trumpets and Bowls being simultaneous. But for “those who dwell upon the earth” in time, the Seals, Trumpets, and Bowls will occur separately and sequentially over a period of many years.

The End Times and the Exodus, Part 4
The 7 Bowls: Godʼs Wrath Poured Out on the Nations
Preliminary, Exodus: “…the glory of the LORD appeared…” Moses entered the Tabernacle to take “the rod [of God] from before the LORD…” God soon used it and the Israelites to smite the heathen nations. Num. 20:6, 9 End Times: “…the Tabernacle of the testimony in heaven [is] opened.” Seven angels come out, empowered to execute Godʼs wrath on the nations. “…the Glory of God” appears. Rev. 15:5-8
At this point in the future, the worldʼs nations are either submitting to Christʼs dominion, or, they are rebelling against him and serving the Beast: the fallen angel, not man, that “ascends out of the Abyss.” Rev. 11:7; 17:8; 9:2-3, 11 (There may also be some fence-sitter nations for a while.) No such ruler as the Beast existed upon Earth in Mosesʼ time; therefore, there are no clear allegories for the first five Bowls. The following are only suggested:
1st Bowl, Exodus: Fiery serpents inflicted grievous bites on rebellious Israelites. Num. 21:4f. End Times: Loathsome sores come upon the rebels that serve the Beast. Rev. 16:2
2nd - 3rd Bowls, Exodus: The Israelites were refused permission to drink the waters of Edom and Moab, two ungodly peoples. Num. 20:14-21; Judg. 11:17-18 End Times: Polluted and undrinkable waters. Rev. 16:3-4
4th Bowl, Exodus: “…fire went out from Heshbon…” Num. 21:28 End Times: Rebellious men are “scorched with fire.” Rev. 16:8-9
5th Bowl, Exodus: “Og, King of Bashan, [the last] of the remnant of the Rephaim,” was defeated and killed by the Israelites. Deut. 3:1-11 The Rephaim were the offspring of fallen angels. End Times: The throne and kingdom of the Beast are afflicted. Rev. 16:10-11
6th Bowl, Exodus: The Jordan River was dried up to prepare for the invasion of Canaan by the Israelites, and the subsequent great battle (below). Josh. 3:13-17 End Times: The “River Euphrates…[is] dried up” to prepare for the invasion of the land of Canaan, and “the battle of that great day of God…” Rev. 16:12-16
7th Bowl, Exodus: Joshua – Yeshua – and the Israelites defeated the many armies gathered together against them on ʻthe day the sun stood still.ʼ “[T]he earth trembled and shook” amidst a great storm (Jasher 89:15), and great hailstones fell from heaven. The Canaanite armies were routed and slaughtered, and their kings were captured alive and “cast into” a cave. Josh. 10 End Times: “[T]hunderings and lightnings…a mighty and great earthquake…great hail from heaven.” Jesus – Yeshua – and the armies of heaven descend to destroy the armies gathered together against them. The Beast and the False Prophet are captured alive, and “cast into” the lake of fire. Rev. 16:17-21; 19:11-21
The Armageddon battle of the 7th Bowl and Revelation 19 is that of Ezekiel 38-39, the only other place God mentions using “great hailstones” in war. Ezek. 38:22 Both passages also tell about Godʼs great feast for the birds:
Revelation 19:17 Come, gather together to the supper of the great God, 18 that you may eat the flesh of kings…[and] mighty men…
Ezekiel 39:17 …come, gather together…to my sacrificial meal …that you may… 18 eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of princes…
This is also the time of the battle of Zechariah 14:
Zechariah 14:3 Then the LORD will go forth and fight against those nations… 7 It shall be one [unique] day that is known to the LORD…at evening it shall be light.
    Compare Joshua 10:13-14 :
So the sun…did not hasten to go down… And there has been no day like that before…for the LORD fought for Israel.
Zechariah focuses on the battle for Jerusalem, while Ezekiel focuses on the greater battle against the assembled armies gathered in the Plain of Esdraelon/Megiddo. However, both passages, as also Revelation 16:18, speak of the tremendous earthquake that will take place. Ezek. 38:19-20; Zech. 14:4-5 Both also say that among the invaders, “every manʼs sword will be against his brother.” Ezek. 38:21; Zech. 14:13 So this is all one continuous conflict, fought over a wide area, in which the Lord personally fights. In Joshuaʼs day, the king of Jerusalem was the leader of the assembled heathen armies: this was a foreshadowing of the Latter Day battle for Jerusalem.
