    Matthew 5:32

So by the way, what are your thoughts on Matt 5:32?
  2. Hi Remanantrob, Interesting conclusion you have arrived at. My question would be why did Jesus make the following statement? Matthew 11:18-19 18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon.' 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and "sinners." ' But wisdom is proved right by her actions." It says that John came neither eating or drinking, but the Son of man came eating and drinking. Jesus here is saying that He was drinking and it was obviously an alcoholic beverage or He wouldn't have been accused of being a drunkard, which He would not have been if it were grape juice. Which by the way when grape juice ferments it becomes an intoxicating beverage, and being in the desert this happened. Another passage to consider is John and his recording of the wedding feast: John 2:10 and said to him, "Every man serves the good wine first, and when the people have drunk freely, then he serves the poorer wine; but you have kept the good wine until now." The waiter is speaking about an alcoholic beverage here. What he is saying is that at the beginning when people start drinking, usually (in todays terms) the top shelf is brought out and when they have drank and their senses have been dulled, the cheaper stuff is brought out. But Jesus brought out the top shelf last, and apparently after the wedding guest are already inebriated, they were apparently drunk from celebrating already. Now I would agree that it would be better to abstain, but should one celebrate with wine at weddings or graduations etc... is that wrong? I personally don't believe so. Paul tells Timothy that Deacons should not be addicted to much wine: 1 Timothy 3:8 Deacons likewise must be men of dignity, not double-tongued, or addicted to much wine or fond of sordid gain, He didn't tell him that deacons were to abstain. Paul in Romans says that if your drinking causes your brother to stumble, then we shouldn't drink it: Rom 14:20 Do not tear down the work of God for the sake of food All things indeed are clean, but they are evil for the man who eats and gives offense. 21 It is good not to eat meat or to drink wine, or to do anything by which your brother stumbles. 22 The faith which you have, have as your own conviction before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves. Notice Paul doesn't condemn the drinking of wine, he does say that although you have faith that drinking wine is ok, don't let your conviction on what you approve become a stumbling block to your brother. The brother who observes you drinking, may against his convictions be emboldened to drink as well and defile his conscience before God. And perhaps the one seeing you drink may have had a former problem in this area and become entrapped all over again. If one chooses to totally abstain from alcohol, this is a beautiful thing, but as Paul says, let this conviction be your own, before God. dent condemn the one who does for his conscience before God may not be the same conviction as you. Some of us have been delivered from a drinking problem we had, and in turn we judge the one who drinks as if we by our power delivered ourselves and give no credit to God the deliverer. We must be careful in this area. Romans 14 1 Now accept the one who is weak in faith, but not for the purpose of passing judgment on his opinions. 2 One person has faith that he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats vegetables only. 3 The one who eats is not to regard with contempt the one who does not eat, and the one who does not eat is not to judge the one who eats, for God has accepted him. 4 )Who are you to judge the servant of another? To his own master he stands or falls; and he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand. I myself see no problem with it, yet others do. I would like to add one more thing and it concerned Pauls address to the Lords supper: 1 Cor 11:20 Therefore when you meet together, it is not to eat the Lord's Supper, 21 for in your eating each one takes his own supper first; and one is hungry and another is drunk. 22 What! Do you not have houses in which to eat and drink? Or do you despise the church of God and shame those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you? In this I will not praise you. By Pauls statement "another is drunk" shows that this was not just grape juice that they used in celebrating the Lords supper or one would not have been drunk. Of course Paul is rebuking them here because they were supposed to be observing the Lords supper but apparently came together to party. Notice that Paul really wasn't condemning the eating and drinking, but says that this is the wrong place for that, you have houses to do this. He was condemning their hearts, for they should have been there to celebrate the Lords death and resurrection, and should have included all who have come to celebrate the same. Paul then goes on to remind them of the importance of this very sacred celebration. This is just my understanding of the subject. In Jesus kevin
  3. Here is an interesting verse that I believe that the Lord spoke to me years ago. It is in the New American Standard version of the bible: John 17:11 "I am no longer in the world; and yet they themselves are in the world, and I come to You Holy Father, keep them in Your name, the name which You have given Me, that they may be one even as We are. Here Jesus asks the Father to keep us in the Fathers Name, the Name which the Father gave the Son............Jesus! Could Jesus be the Name of the Father and the Son? It appears that way to me anyway. After all Jesus is the Name of The Son and He asks the Father to keep us in the Fathers Name, apparently from my understanding of this verse to be Jesus for it is the Name which the Father gave to the Son. The NIV version also seems to agree with this interpretation of NASB. John 17:11 11 I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name
  4. I voted Israel, it seems that most of the other votes are included in this such as terrorist etc... as will as shows us just how close we are to the times prophecied years ago. But I like to read all of the topics mentioned.
  5. Hi all, Actually I went and looked it up and man was I off It is actually found in 2 Cor 13 and I will cut and paste 8 For we can do nothing against the truth, but only for the truth. ooooooooooops!
  6. I dont remember the verse, but the quote is "You can do nothing against the truth, only for the truth" I believe it is in proverbs King James version. I meditated on this memory verse (that I cant remeber the verse #) and God really spoke to me. In a nut shell, no matter how much one tries to turn the truth into a lie, it is the truth that will prevail, it is the truth that will expose the lie. You can do nothing against the truth, when one tries it just strengthens the facts of the truth and proves the truth to be true. (hope that makes sense ) Nothing prevails against the truth. Jesus is the truth.

    Satan

Hi Skyla, No, He created satan as a Cherub, an angel who stood before His throne, However He gave satan free will as He also gave man the same. satan was beautiful and his ego so to speak thought that he could be like God and he rebelled against Him. Satan was not created evil. I disagree with this. we can not blame one sin on satan. he is the tempter, but we have always had free will to say yes or no to the temptations. We will be held responsible for our own actions not satans temptations. I believe we would have rebelled with or without satans temptation or interference We need to understand that we rebelled against God, and when we understand this and see ourselves for who we really are, we can come to God in true repentance and sorrow and truly seek forgiveness and turn to the living God. When we understand that the enemy who is in the world is nothing to those who are in Christ who has overcome the world. We can live a victorious life. We can focus on Christ and reconize the enemy when he rears his head and resist him. The scriptures say he will flee. Only God is good, we are forgiven. We love God because He loved us first. If God did not love us, it would be impossible to love Him. He is the One that gives us the capacity to love, to obey, to forgive, to understand etc... We are nothing without Him. God holds us responsible for our sins, not satan, God is a just God, if satan were responsible for our rebellion then God would hold satan responsible, but He doesn't, He holds us responsible. I dont agree with this, but only God knows for sure. One thing is for certain, man disobeyed God and therefore he was banished from the garden. Man was responsible for this not satan. We have this option now, but we choose not to in oh so many things. Praise God for the blood of Jesus and His continual forgiveness when we confess our sin. In Jesus kevin

    Satan

Hi Tim, Let me ask you this then. Do you think that when God created Lucifer that He was unaware that he would rebell? When God created man, do you think that God was unaware that he would rebell? In Jesus kevin

    Satan

Hi Willow, Great post! however, this I would disagree with. satan is also a created being.

    Satan

Hi Skyla, Actually we were given free will from the very beginning: Gen 2:15 The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die." God commanded man not to eat, in other words He gave man a freedom of will, to either obey Him and not eat or to disobey and eat. So man did have the choice to do so or not or God would not have told man not to do so if He hadn't given him free will. However, man had no knowledge of evil until the disobedience. It was mans free will that satan took advantage of. In the millennial Kingdom, man will be judged for sin on the spot and this while satan is out of the picture. This will show that we can blame no one for our disobedience to God, not even satan. We are by nature sinners and this why we must be born again. Hope that helps, In Jesus kevin
  12. Hi Biblestudent, Brother, I cant speak for anyone else, but I have been the recipient of the same thing that you accuse another of by none other than yourself. However, I realize we can all get "sharp tongued" at times. Remember that when you point a finger at someone, 4 are pointing back at you. And then again, some of us may not intend to be "sharp tongued" but when reading in the limitations of print as opposed to face to face confrontaions, these can be taken wrong and were never intended by the writter. There has been many points brought out on this and other threads about the hardining of Israel better known as "the time of the gentiles" and how God will again turn to the Nation of Israel and redeem her, but you have not acknowledged any of it. Yet you insist that people acknowledge you when you bring up something, and that not being scriptural truth but your belief or at best a denominational belief. I realize that you have written a book and this is where I think that your problem lies. If you wre to acknowledge the truth, you would have to admit your book is wrong, which to me there would be no shame in that. So again I will say, the responses to your question have have already been given, but you refuse to acknowledge them.
  13. Ted, there has been a lot of comments made on a lot of things, but you arent listening.
  14. Hi Zayit, I believe that Jesus definately encourages us to read His Word. He has a special promise to those who do. Here is one of my favorite verses.; John 8:30-32 30 As he spake these words, many believed on him. 31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. Jesus calls us true deciples (not just saved) if we abide in His word and promises us that we will know the truth, (which Jesus is the truth) in other words, we will know Him, and He will set us free. Its really an awesome scripture to me. Now to one who chooses not to read, they are no less saved, but I believe they are missing out on so many blessings and stengthening of their faith.. Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Good topic by the way, and great scripture responses from all. In Jesus kevin
  15. What's a JS thread? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Jessica Simpson. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Who is Jessica Simpson? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> A self proffessed christian who is also an entertainer of questionable scruples? I am trying not to sound judgemental or gossipy <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Oh, O.K. But I still think U2 is overrated!
  16. What's a JS thread? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Jessica Simpson. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Who is Jessica Simpson?
  17. I am with you Super Jew! whether they are christian or not I dont know, but I just never really liked their music, I have liked more than a few songs, but not an entire album, they are way overrated in my opinion. I do know however, that Bono on an interview on television (cant remember if it was the tonight show or letterman, maybe neither) he was asked the question of yheir christian band status and he said they were not a christian band. This however has nothing to do with whether they are christians or not that question wasnt addressed as I recall. Their have many bands though who dont really consider themselves christian bands and yet have a spiritual message. remember Kansas? Triumph? Mason Profit? there were many. I think one of the best christian rock bands was Petra!
  18. Hi Shiloh, Wow!!! That is very interesting stuff and exactly why we should be reaching out to our Jewish brothers. We can learn so much from them. Its kinda ironic, when we reach out to our Jewish brothers and teach them about Jesus, they in turn will teach us about the bible All the Jewish customs point to Jesus, even He said so more or less. This is very interesting about the Pharasee's and how they had in effect different denominations with in although had the same core beliefs. It reminds you of Christianity today. Thanks for that teaching, I was blessed by it In Jesus kevin
  19. I have to agree with that. they have some songs I liked up to Joshua tree and then........... I too think they are way over rated.
