What Bible(s) Do You Perfer To Study From?
Shane replied to Veggietales's topic in General Discussion
I use a keyword NASB and a NKJV for serious study. I have a MacArthur NKJV Study biblea and for general reading I enjoy an ESV and then NIV as my last choice. -
AMEN it wont happen, there will always be true Christians in this world and a True Christian would never unite with Rome. Many who have a watered down gospel and a lukewarm belief might, but True Christians no way. Gal 1:8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. Gal 1:9 As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed. Gal 1:10 For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ. God bless

Well AMEN for the few guys out there that are God fearing enough to stand for truth. It seems to me people today twist the versus about not judging completely out of context to the extent that we are now not supposed to evaluate anyones teachings. Thats why even people like Benny Hinn and the worst of them get to be calles Christian which must be very dissapointing to our Saviour that did so much for us. Men like this are NOT unloving and do NOT hate Catholics but wish to see them saved. They DO however love Christ enough to stand against the perversions of the Gospel out there and what a shame that more of us dont. OK now let me get my Flack Jacket

I agree with your opinion on the NIV, if you are studying it really is not a good choice. I have no problem with it used for general reading though.
-
I have to agree that the TNIV gets a big thumbs down from me. The NIV is OK for general reading but for study I will stick with mu NKJV and NASB
-
I agree the NIV is not a good bible to study from no thought for though or paraphrase bible is. For study i will stick to aNKJV and NASB As far as I can understand the Geneva and KJ are very similar in translation and both based on the TR texts.
-
I cant say I agree. As far as judging goes we are simply told to remove the log from our own eye before we judge. Paul said a number of times that doctrine was important and it can literally mean the difference between eternal life and death. We are certainly not to judge condemingly but we are to evaluate teaching and doctrine and hold to the truth that Christ gave us in his word. I believe the Spirit should always testify to Christ and not itself.

Well said jc49 I am one of those saved from th Catholic church. When I started understanding the Gospel of Grace I could not stay in the RCC. One of my true concerns is the liberal thinking of so many Christians.
-
Oh man If only people would read their bibles. There is so much rediculous and terrible teaching in the name of Christ today.
-
I am not sure. it will be interesting to see what everyone says. I dont believe they have souls so I guess that would mean they might not?
-
I have 2NASB 2NKJV 3NIV 1KJV 4 other bibles including a Catholic one I guess thats about 12 in all and then I have Esword of course with close to 30 different options. My favourites, NKJV NASB and ESV

I am sure you will shortly have a whole bunch of guys saying it is the only authoritive word of God. That normally happens. I believe the KJ only chaps are truly mislead. Me personally I believe that sice the original manuscripts dont exist anymore we have to rely on copies of them so we have two main sources and I use both. For accuracy I use the NKJV and NASB and they are quite readable and for easier reading I will use an ESV or NIV my preference being the ESV. I dont believe any further paraphrasing is needed as these are quite readable so I dont like the Message etc as they really water down Gods word terribly. So in general I use 3 versions and compare them. There is nothing wrong with the KJV but I belive you will get allot more out of the NKJV if you battle with the old english.
-
I'll second Bro Davids response. I think something is definitely wrong if you are not spending time in Gods word in a church service. If it is a worship get together no problem but during a church service? Worship is great but the intimacy that grows from being in Gods word should never come second.

Maybe you should ask yourself that question. Since you obviously have not read or understood Number 957 of the Chatecism. And remember unlike you I was a Catholic for 30 years so maybe you should study their teachings properly before being so eager to defend them. Please do not misunderstand me here I dont mean to be rude but I need to make a point, so I might come accross as rather blunt. My apologies for that, but in light of your rather sarcastic comment I think we can call it quits. Just a thought, dont you think the burden of proof should be on the Catholics since nothing in the Bible points to praying to anyone in heaven apart fom Christ. Oh yes and that proof should be from the Bible and clear without taking verses out of context, or using versus which clearly apply to believers that are on earth, not in heaven as Fiosh has so apptly used out of context. eg. James 5:16. With that said I probably wont post again as I have a feeling where this will no doubt end again.
-
You are praying TO the saints and asking them to pray for you. When all you need is to pray To Christ our saviour. So your comment is floored.

I dont know it seems pretty clear in the Chatecism of the Catholic church to me. And it certainly was the doctrine of the church when I was Catholic. I am sure you will at least agree that the Chatecism of the church holds its doctrinal beliefs. The following is a piece of the Chatecism:
-
Hi Leonard Could you give me an example of such doctrine that is not held to? I was Catholic for 30 years and I would just like to clarify.
-
This is simply false of course its Roman Catholic doctrine.
-
This is exactly where one f the major problems lies. To a Catholic Christs sacrifice on the cross is not good enough they still have to pay for their sins in Purgatory. It is absolutely frightening how many people on this board can not see the difference between the reformer view and Catholism. Maybe everyone should start reading what Luther was on about! Please note it is not about hating Catholics but dont condone their teaching and view of salvation. It is wrong. I cant help wondering about the Apostles in the context of the Popes passing. I will bet my life that all of them would have wanted Christ glorified instead of themselves. This extreme glorification of the Pope is actually extremely sad. It is quite simple The Catholic faith is another Gospel and Christians must stand for truth.
-
God has a very unpleasant place reserved for him if he never repents. God is Holy and Just and he will pay the price.
-
Amen to that. Rom 16:17 I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. 1Ti 1:3 As I urged you when I was going to Macedonia, remain at Ephesus that you may charge certain persons not to teach any different doctrine, 1Ti 1:4 nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies, which promote speculations rather than the stewardship from God that is by faith. Tit 1:9 He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it.
-
He saved me from false teaching and religion which would have lead me to the pits of Hell. Amazing Grace how sweet the sound That saved a wrech like me I once was lost but now am found was blind but now I see. Eph 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, Eph 2:9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. Eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

I am not asking people to start a bashing campaign here I am simply asking for a poll of the views of people on worthy. I personally think that is is an excellent time for a poll like this considering the publicity and attention the catholic church will be getting over the next month or more.
