  1. He definately deserves the benefit of the doubt. I for one am quite pleased to see that he is going in the right direction now. I certainly like him a lot as an actor. He's my fav in fact.

  4. Oh, this is where I found out about the interview. It talks about it in this article. Gibson: "Passion" Sprung from Suicide Thoughts Phil Brennan, NewsMax.com Monday, Feb. 16, 2004 "I don't want people to make it about the blame game," Mel Gibson says of his film "The Passion of the Christ." Instead he insists that "It's about faith, hope, love and forgiveness. That's what this film is about. It's about Christ's sacrifice." In a revealing interview with ABC's Diane Sawyer due to be aired at 10:00 p.m. E.T. Monday, on "Primetime," Gibson explained that for him the making of the controversial film was cathartic, that he set out to make it over 10 years ago because he had reached "the height of spiritual bankruptcy." The Hollywood star admits that things got so bad he once contemplated suicide by hurling himself out a window. "I just didn't want to go on," he confided to Sawyer. "I was looking down thinking, 'Man, this is just easier this way. You have to be mad, you have to be insane, to despair in that way. But that is the height of spiritual bankruptcy. There's nothing left." Instead, he said he turned back to the word of God. "I think I just hit my knees. "I just said, 'Help.' You know? And then, I began to meditate on it, and that's in the Gospel. I read all those again. I remember reading bits of them when I was younger." "Pain is the precursor to change, which is great," Gibson said. "That's the good news." He recalled that the "spiritual bankruptcy" led him to reexamine Christianity, and ultimately to create "The Passion of the Christ" - "my vision . with God's help" of the final hours in the life of Jesus. Answering those who charge that the film is anti-Semitic he said he is not an anti-Semite, and that anti-Semitism is "un-Christian" and a sin that "goes against the tenets of my faith." As to who did kill Jesus, Gibson said "The big answer is, we all did. I'll be the first in the culpability stakes here." In answer to those who warn that the film's depiction of the Jewish role in the death of Jesus could encourage anti-Semitism Gibson told Sawyer that he simply tried his best to interpret the Gospels. "Critics who have a problem with me don't really have a problem with me in this film," Gibson added. "They have a problem with the four Gospels. That's where their problem is." Asked whether he considers his film the definitive depiction of the passion, Gibson says: "This is my version of what happened, according to the Gospels and what I wanted to show - the aspects of it I wanted to show." Jesus Christ "was beaten for our iniquities," Gibson says. "He was wounded for our transgressions and by his wounds we are healed. That's the point of the film. It's not about pointing the fingers. It's about faith, hope, love and forgiveness, It is reality for me. . I believe that. I have to . for my own sake . so I can hope, so I can live." Speaking of those who say the film's violence is too shocking Gibson said he wanted it to be. But, he said "If you don't like it, don't go. . If you want to leave halfway through, go ahead. I wanted it to be shocking," Gibson explained, "And I also wanted it to be extreme. I wanted it to push the viewer over the edge . so that they see the enormity - the enormity of that sacrifice - to see that someone could endure that and still come back with love and forgiveness, even through extreme pain and suffering and ridicule." In remarks to be broadcast along with Gibson's interview, Abraham Foxman, national director of the Anti-Defamation League, and a vehement critic of the film told Sawyer that he doesn't believe Gibson is anti-Semitic. But he said he still has concerns about the film. "I do not believe it's an anti-Semitic movie," Foxman says. "I believe that this movie has the potential to fuel anti-Semitism, to reinforce it." But, he added "This is his vision, his faith; he's a true believer, and I respect that. But there are times that there are unintended consequences." Commenting on Gibson's claim that he wanted it to push the viewer over the edge . so that they see the enormity - the enormity of that sacrifice - to see that someone could endure that and still come back with love and forgiveness, even through extreme pain and suffering and ridicule." Foxman expressed the hope that viewers come away with that sort of message, rather than anger or bias. "I hope that most people see it, Diane, as a passion of love," Foxman says. "Maybe when it's all over, in a sobering manner, we'll be able to come back and look each other in the face and say, 'We have to deal with this hatred that's still out there.'" Gibson said he, too, wants dialogue. "Let's get this out on the table and talk about it," he said. "This is what the Talmud says. This is what the Gospel says. Let's talk. Let's talk. People are asking questions about things that have been buried a long time." "I hope it inspires introspection, and I think it does," Gibson says. "I want to inspire and make people feel."
  5. Wouldn't matter to nonreligious Jews. They would do it. Yup
  6. I agree. I think that a lot of questions we have put up here on Worthy Boards were answered in that interview. It will be talked about again in the morning on their morning show. I think that it was great that he said that he is a work in progress, it looks like he has a ways to go because of what he said about that NY Times Journalist-Frank Rich. But as long as he stays on the right path then I think the Lord will keep changing his heart. We all have a long way to go, and I am sure we will never arrive. Also he cleared up what his faith is, he is a Traditionalist Catholic. Where they preach in Latin...etc. The interview ended on a great note....that it wasn't the Jews that killed Christ, it wasn't the Romans that Killed Christ, it was all of us...."it was me"....that killed Christ. Even though I don't see him proclaiming the Gospel they way many of us would I do see a man that is looking to learn and grow. He even said that he doesn't think he wants to go back to making the same kind of movies he did before and that he doesn't think that he even wants to be in movies anymore, he is content to be a slob behind the scenes as a director. We shall see what fruit he produces in the future now that he has put himself out there for all to see. Thats hard for some to do with their friends and family but what if you did it in front of the whole world? Wow...a lot of accountability.
  7. Just wish I would have been able to see it from the beginning, missed the first half.
  8. There is an interview with Mel Gibson about the Passion on Primetime on ABC right now ....I am on the east coast so I dont' know if everyone is getting it now.

  14. AMEN Dad & U S. The Lord said that all we need is the faith of a mustard seed and as far as I can see that is a very small measure to go along with the grace the Lord has provided. Our faith, like a mustard seed, grows along with study and spending time with the Lord. Matthew 17:20 So Jesus said to them, "Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, "Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.
  15. FORGIVEN
  16. I'd like to add that many people don't know what works really are so that in it self can be misconstrude. The example of Abraham taking his son Isaac to sacrifice him because the Lord told him to do so, many would not see that as works becuase they don't understand works. If we have a definition of works that would help to make clear why it is important that the two go hand in hand. I challenge that we all look for and point out scripture that specifically shows works and faith performed at the same time to show how they are to go together for the great purposes of the Lord. And Abraham is a great place to start....thank you CaliGuy4Christ. Well I am going to have to do some homework to find these...to be continued....
  17. This is the best thing to do when faced with one that is constantly taking advantage of the love that the Lord has given us for others to do things for them. When it comes to a point that you are sure they are taking advantage just tell them that you need to pray about it and then you will let them know. Once you pray about it and ask the Lord what to do, then you can tell them yes or no. From that time forward, tell them you must pray about it first. Put the responsiblity onto the Lord. I am sure He will give you some no answers as well as yes answers. Just like when you let a child know that the reason they are in trouble is because God says not to do that, they will learn that you rely on God in ALL things no matter how small or insignificant it may seem. Or you could just tell them that you feel as though they are taking advantage of you and see if they are repentant of it. I think the first way is always good and it makes it easier for us to deal with people that have their own interests at heart, the second way I think is to be used if the person is a Christian and they should know better. Anyhow, pray about it and let the Lord lead. Blessings~Rose
  18. I did vote for more prayer, even knowing that the answer was incomplete, I thought I could add that here. I completely agree that your prayers should always be led by the Spirit. What needs to be understood is that we are in a spiritual battle here and the Lord told us to put on the Whole Armor of God which included prayer. My husband and I were invited to our friends church and after three weeks of going and listening to the spirit speaking to us my husband said to me that he wanted to go up but because he knew that I would follow him just because he was going, he wouldn't go. The fourth week I went up without him and from that time until 2 years later it was a constant battle. I prayed for his salvation, I prayed for my sanity, I prayed for Him to take my anger, I prayed for strength (several times a day) because it gave me peace in my heart that God was there to listen to my struggle no matter how many times I told Him and cried to Him, and every time I turned it over to Him it was very easy to take it back so I had to give it to Him again and again and again and again and again. What really blew my mind is that the more I prayed the worse my husband got...at one point I thought the Devil himself was living in my home. The enemy lied fervantly to my husband and the only way I could combat that was to pray fervantly for him. The Lord proved me faithful by my continuous prayers for my husband, that not once did I give up on the Lord or my hubby. I believe that it shows that you trust God to do what He says He is going to do because you are faithful in doing what he calls you to do....pray unceasingly, fervantly, passionately with moanings. God will let you know when it is time not to pray for any one thing. Until then Pray....Pray....Pray....Pray. The Whole Armor of God Ephesians 10-20 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints-- and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. Blessings Rose
  19. To be anti-Semitic is to be a hater of the Jew. The Germans were anti-Semitic. This movie is to represent Jesus. Do to the GRAPHIC violence that Jesus endured prior to and on the cross. It has been said that he is Catholic,by his own tongue, which is a Christian sect. Now to know for sure if he is a Christian is to know only what God knows, or to know the man personally. I would have to think that it is a good posibility he is but it is really hard to tell by the fruit of his previous labors. All I can say is that in recent years he has done many movies that are much different than that of the norm for him. So maybe God is working on his heart. The movie is done in the orginial Aramaic as well as others languages (don't remember for sure which ones) could be also Greek and will be subtitled (translated). No Spanish.
  20. You are absolutely right that an individual person cannot be lumped into a stereotypical group, because not everyone believes exactly the same things. But I have to say that there are radical groups making decisions for the whole, and you cannot deny that. I am sure that the homosexual friends you both have probablly have never even gone out to be activists for their right to be homosexuals, nor are they fighting now for marriage of homosexuals to be made law. So, no, they cannot be lumped into the group of homosexual activits that we are speaking of. I can certainly say that the womens movement those many years ago really paved the way for women to become strong in the workforce and to have all the same rights as their male counterparts, but I can also say that out of the womens movement came some really bad things....Like how forward women became sexually which I believe helped the free love movement blossom, and started a domino affect that is seen today. I also see descrimination against those women that would like to stay home and be a wife and mother. It is a very UNPOPULAR thing to do these days and you are looked at crossways if you tell most women that you are a homemaker. So as much as you both think we are attacking the homosexual persons that you call Friend, you are wrong. I am only refering to those who are out there working their agenda that is a threat to the sanctity of the marriage covenant that God put in place since the beginning of time. I pray that your friends learn the truth through the Light of Jesus shinning in you both.
  21. River, you are a cynic! How are you able to know the mind of another man, or that he wasn't given a vision from God (not that he was)? The point is, if it is from God it will complete its intended purpose no matter if it makes "$$$" or not. As for children watching this, as long as they are at an age to where they have an understanding of what Jesus did for us then by all means they should have the visual. If they are too young to have an understanding then by all means to not scare them. As for an answer to prayers, how are you to know that it isn't? It may be "JUST A MOVIE" but God can use any means to get someones attention, and in this day and age we are highly focused on being "entertained". DO NOT limit God by putting him in a box. Blessings~Rose
  22. I believe that the point is being missed here. This whole argument is about changing the definition of Marriage to include homosexuals so that they can have the same rights as the male/female marriage and then redefine them. There is a real problem with this because their entire agenda is to destroy the sanctity of marriage, to make it NULL AND VOID! It will eventually affect our tax credits. I agree it is the choice of the individual as to how they live because we can choose to live in sin, but if this land has laws that govern it and many of the original laws of this land were based upon the biblical laws, why should we not fight for the biblical definition of a Marriage, which by the way currently reads that Marriage is between a Man and a Woman. So yes there is a victim here and it is the heterosexual marriage covenent designed by God. You see, these people can get married it just wont be recognized by the government and the majority of its people. As for Mass. that verdict will soon be under appeal...check out this thread concerning the Marriage Amendment in the federal courts and what we can do to support it. I have taken a quote from a Focus on the Family interview: Q. You mentioned lies. Isn't one of the lies that homosexuals really want marriage? A. That's one of the biggest lies. Actually, what they have said at conferences
  23. You are welcome and Happy Reading!
  24. I see it this way, that if even ONLY ONE person is SAVED by watching this movie then it has done what God has called us to do as disciples of Christ. Therefore, it could very well be that God told Mel to make this film, and make it accurate to the scriptures and history. Even though Mel Gibson is a highly respected man in hollywood he could get a lot of flak just by making this film and proclaming his belief in our Lord and Savior, maybe even get black listed. Righteous persecution from his peers. He took a great risk by even doing this film. Let us not judge, lest we be judged. Unless we can get to know the man on a personal level, only God knows his heart. If he truely loves God and has a personal relationship with Him then so what if he wears Catholicizm? We don't know the depth that he goes to in that faith or it's religiousity.
  25. AMEN Yod! I will buy it when it comes out on DVD because we just can't afford a family Movie outing, but it will be in our library. Jesusson, it has nothing to do with the religiostiy of the Catholic church, it has to do with the truth of Jesus...that is why we would go and see it because the Catholics believe that Jesus died for our sins. We dissagree with their religiosity. As for the Mormans, I do not consider them even a Christain sect, even though they "claim" to have the next book of Jesus Christ, never once do they say that He is God in their doctrine, nor that He died to provide us with salvation. They say "Christ's blood shed on the cross only provides for the universal resurrection of all people and does not pay for personal sin." (third article of faith; journal of discourses, V.3, p. 247; Mormon doctine, pp. 62, 669) So if they ever decided to make a movie about Christ, I would never support it. Christ has been seen very much in the making of this movie with people getting saved on the set, praying on the set at the start of everyday and throughout so it deserves our support as followers of Christ. There have been highly respected Christian men/women that have already seen it and give it glowing reviews. Those that I trust to give me an honest answer. Go and see it...then make a decision on whether it deserves our support.
